Jaq said...: Looks like those warheads hit at approximately Mach 12, based on taking the time it pierced the clouds to the time it hit the ground, which was about .5 seconds. The video will never be precise enough to give the exact speed. Anyway, nobody has anything that can intercept these. Certainly not the Patriot. There was another video of other hypersonic single warhead missiles hitting last night, and the Patriots had been launched, but they were a day late and a dollar short. But still you could follow the missiles in the video. These warheads were a lot faster, just appearing almost as beams of light.

Also it appears that an underground facility was hit and damaged, although how badly it was damaged is unknown, because it was cordoned off and surrounded by Ukrainian secret police. We will never be told about damage that happened, if it did, which seems likely. The missiles had no live warheads, but they would certainly travel a good way into the ground at that speed.

No video so far of the crash site of this other huge missile traveling at multiples of the speed of sound that the Ukrainians claim happened. Seems like a missile hitting the ground weighing 10,000 pounds or more, I don't know the exact figure, it's probably more, since the payload was 5,000 pounds, anyway, hitting the ground at mach 10 or so, would have been noticed. We would probably have seismograph data on such a hit,

When I first saw the film in college with my dormitory friends in the early 1970s, (we dropped some LSD first), I was amazed. Now I realize that the book is 10 times better than the movie, even without the psychedelics. Even though the movie was directed by Stanley Kubrick, the book is much more intense. The older I get, the more I think that all the books based on movies that I have watched are much better than the movies about the book. It's more expensive, but if you eliminate the water-attracting ethanol from your fuel, you won't have fuel problems, especially if you're also using things like Stabil. You'll eliminate varnish in your carburetion system.

Since he upheld his end of the deal, the state can't unilaterally say the deal was too good and prosecute him anyway. Probably a good ruling overall. "A Democratic election official in Pennsylvania offered an impassioned apology Wednesday for claiming “precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country” to justify counting about 600 faulty ballots in defiance of state Supreme Court rulings.

“The passion in my heart got the best of me and I apologize again for that,” Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia said in front of a fiery crowd at a county meeting.

“I made a mistake, and because I am an elected official, I am held to a far higher standard than everybody else. So, to the citizens I serve, I apologize, and I will continue to work hard for you and endeavor to not make such a mistake again.”

Ellis-Marseglia said she received expletive-laden criticism and death threats following her prior comments. She also said other county employees have been flooded with threats.

Throughout her apology, the packed room – which included many supporters of President-elect Donald Trump – heckled Ellis-Marseglia, and some held up signs that said “tyrant.” Others called for her resignation and prosecution and accused her of trying to count illegal votes to help Democrats hold onto a US Senate seat.

Her prior comments about flouting court precedent took off on social media and were promoted widely by Trump allies like Elon Musk.

Ellis-Marseglia and another Democrat on the three-member panel voted to count misdated mail ballots and unsigned provisional ballots, over the objections of the lone GOP commissioner, the county’s attorney, and in defiance of the state’s top court, which ruled before the election that ballots with these deficiencies are invalid.

This is unfolding amid a closely watched recount in the state’s US Senate race between Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican Dave McCormick, who leads by about 17,000 votes. CNN has not made a projection in that race."
