Pointing my fingers... pointing my fingers... at you....

ADDED: And Trump already replicated the mirror routine — here, with Jimmy Fallon, back in 2016. The Mick Jagger routine happened in 2001. There may be earlier examples of this routine, or similar things, like Harpo and Groucho in "Duck Soup," and, replicating that, Harpo and Lucy on "I Love Lucy."

Nobody’s done it like Groucho and Harpo. After them, the bit should have been retired.

serious question:
approximately HOW MUCH would NBC's free air time for Kamela cost her, if she wasn't getting it for free?

Dave Begley said...

The highlight of both of their careers.

I cued the video to begin with the mirror part, but if you go back earlier you can catch Dana Carvey doing his Biden impersonation again. That's always amusing, but they didn't give him enough material, I suspect because the top priority is helping Kamala win. Biden should be absolutely trashed. We see him leaving the room to talk to cameras, but we never get to see him say anything crazy to the cameras. Real life is funnier. The comedy writers here don't even want to be funny.

Kamala not too busy to fly to NYC to wrap up all those SNL viewers that were on the fence…

rehajm said...

…I get it, though. Kamala on SNL will be the top news story of the day, with every outlet showing the best highlight that makes her look competent, if there was one…

Christopher B said...

To prove your point, If somebody scripted Biden saying this you'd never believe it. (There's a link to Biden's full speech in the comments)

Great another totally scripted event with actors because she sucks at campaigning and fails to connect with actual people. It’s kind of perfect. She ghosted the swing state rally to hang out with the SNL crowd. When Trump did it in ‘16 it was scheduled in advance and there was no need to cancel an appearance elsewhere.

The comments section of the YouTube video seems to be partially censored. Original comments are only favorable to Harris, but at least some of the replying comments that are critical to Harris are getting through, at least for now.

My Youtube pre SNL commercial was for a beauty product called Instant Eraser Concealer. Kind of ironic although the word "iconic" was flashing on the screen so I'm sure it featured some famous female celebrities but I didn't recognize them. I hope election results erase Kamala.

“Keep Kamala. And carry on-al-la-La”? Isn’t she the change candidate?

How does reciting lines from a teleprompter on SNL get her more votes than rallying in Detroit?

BUMBLE BEE said...

Angry viewers claim Kamala Harris' SNL
mirror skit is plagiarized from Donald
Trump's 2015 appearance

MartyH said...

Mick was having fun in his clip. You couldn’t help but laugh with him.

Leland said...

I figured it would be a disaster for Kamala, because she can’t act. A mirror routine makes sense, because she only has to plagiarize, I mean copy, the other person.

Tina Fey used to do such a good Sarah Palin, in my head, I think of Tina Fey when I try to picture Sarah Palin.

It did underscore that Maya Rudolph is a more credible Kamala Harris than Kamala Harris herself can usually portray.

Not as funny as the Jagger-Myers bit, but I liked the writing, the "amala" bit. That was good. But I think the writers could have done better, but who knows if KH's staff had any veto power over it. Michael Myers is SO talented, Mick is enjoying the impression and has a sense of humor in this old clip, -- making fun of his mannerisms during Jagger's stage performances. The Stones' front man has (seemed to me, at least) to not take himself so serious that he can engage in this kind of skit. He walked on looking bedraggled, hair askew. A true prima donna would not have allowed that to happen.

Marcus Bressler said...

It probably wasn't as funny as the Jagger bit because the quality of SNL's writers has deteriorated so much in the decades since its glory years along with its transformation from "no sacred cows" to "lets try to imitate journalists but do some kind of weak comedy".

Iman said...

I see it for what it is, unburdened by has-beens.

Mary Beth said...

If Harris sees any clips of herself with Rudolph, I think she will be disappointed in how she looks in comparison. Being with celebrities who are fawning all over you is great fun and it's flattering having an attractive person playing you, but being a person who has traded on her looks to get ahead, I think she will regret this.

Remember after Hillary lost - and SNL went into funeral funk mode?

Kamala really has zero charisma and isn't really POTUS material. But whatever. The Jagger thing was funny.

the Lucy Harpo was probably the best

No jokes at Doug's expense? Wow. I'm shocked. I guess there's just no material for those courageous, non-partisan writers to work with when it comes to Doug.

SNL jumped the shark years ago. In fact they've circled back and jumped it again a few more times over the years.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

You should have seen her on Chris Cuomo's show this week. Much hotter than the Fey impersonation. And still sharp.

Aggie said...

Joe Rogan was a lot closer to Houston, when she was there. She'd probably say she didn't want to be seen as following Trump, but she's a coward for not doing the interview - even though the exposure might have damaged her campaign terribly. An adoring crowd at SNL is much more her speed. Kamala, the Relentless Ambition with a healthy coating of Safe Bet.

Loved the Jagger skit. The cold open lived down to the current SNL low standards. Gaffigan and Carvey should have been given more and better material but that would have required more democratic party bashing than the SNL writers are allowed. Kamala was awful and the sycophantic cheering when she came on set was crazy (in a bad way). As always, the Marx Brother's did it best.

Aggie said...

Mike Myers is talented - but that was Jimmy Fallon.

If comedy was their goal, this could have been the most epic election season ever for SNL.

Officer Harris underperforms, AGAIN. The Mick Jagger vignette, however, was very funny.

I thought that was Mike Myers too. Fallon's SNL stint wasn't as memorable as Myers's.

My phone is buzzing to tell me "Trump fans furious after noticing Kamala Harris SNL skit is identical to 2015 Jimmy Fallon sketch." Is it actually identical? Are Trump fans really furious? Why isn't the story "Kamala Harris SNL skit is identical to 2015 Jimmy Fallon sketch"? Why drag in Trump fans, furious or not?

Will NBC give Trump equal time?
We must demand an investigation into this corrupt attempt at election interference on the part of the corrupt democrat party and their corrupt partners working with and for NBC.
Somebody call 911 or the FCC or something.
Like anyone is ever going to look into the democrat corruption.

@rehajm, nicely nuanced. How many SNL watchers weren’t already planning to vote for Harris — probably already voted for her? As many as ten summed across the entire country?

She’d reach more undecided voters standing outside a SEPTA station in Philly.

mccullough said...

Trump is funnier than SNL. The guy who plays him is scrawny. He imitates Trump’s voice well but can’t capture him. Maya Rudolph is at least four inches taller than Kamala. She also imitates her voice well but avoids the insecurity Kamala oozes.

We're living in an absurd time. Biden, Harris, and Walz are embarrassing representation of our national decline.

Kamala can't do unscripted, won't do without fawning media presentation.

Kamala is just a Valley Girl. Look at her. Listen to her. To quote the Air-heads everywhere: Gag me with a spoon!

Apparently Kamala is able to bond with her Clone. If scripted.

As I recall from the last season I had watched SNL (religiously back then), Myers did a spot-on Impression of Ron Wood. In fact, I think Fallon stole quite a bit from him.

loudogblog said...

Am I the only one who got the feeling from Adam Sandberg, who played Doug Emhoff, that he looked like he was saying goodbye to that character, as he said his last line, because he suspects that he will never play Doug again?

Plus, an FCC regulator isn't happy about this because he says that it violates the equal time rule. (Trump and the other candidates weren't asked to be on SNL this year. "Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of SNL, which is celebrating its 50th season NBC, told the Hollywood Reporter in September that neither Harris or Trump would themselves appear on the show.")

The SNL welcome for Kamala on this sketch reminded me of the welcomes for Obama back in 2007. I’m not some sociologist, but it’s possible some of the adulation for Trump is a me too reaction to the Obama exuberance that now is being transferred to Kamala which is also a reaction to the MAGA love affair with Trump. Maybe we’re mired in a national tit for tat and there’s no getting out of it. God help us.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

Obama hadn’t done anything to deserve it, Trump didn’t do half the stuff he said he was going to do, and Kamala up until yesterday was rated as the worst vice president we’ve ever had. There’s something happening alright but I have no idea what it is.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

The popularity of so called "react channels/videos" backs me up.

Dr.Bunkypotatohead said...

I cringed last night when she appeared. 80% of her lines appeared to be that cackling laugh. I wonder if even that part was scripted for her.
I dislike her even more now.

Re DJT and KDH candidates talking to mirror images as a comedy skit: I thought that the KDH skit seemed more appealing. I'm surprised that looking at these two videos back to back, it's obvious that KDH has a ton more rizz. She seems relatable and attentive. DJT had odd pauses in the text he was reading. He had vibes of a felon. IMHO.

Lucy and Harpo were a nice homage, if you were familiar with the original.

Kakistocracy said...

The Trump portion of the skit, wasn't even a skit, it was much closer to actual reality . If I were MAGA, I’d be more upset about Weekend Update’s reporting on Trump and his oral fixation with his mic in Milwaukee.
