"On the sensitive and divisive issue of gender identity, Ms. Harris’s change in tone is especially telling."

"In 2019, she introduced herself at a CNN town hall by saying, 'My pronouns are she, her and hers.' Today, she changes the topic when asked whether she would honor her pledge to guarantee that detained immigrants, prisoners and anyone else under the government’s care can access gender affirming surgery. 'I think we should follow the law,' she said in a recent interview with NBC News, moving on quickly.... At the same time, Ms. Harris has not explicitly acknowledged any distance from the party’s left flank.... The question for those in the progressive wing of the party is whether they continue to pursue some of their more polarizing ideas about identity.... Whether Ms. Harris wins or loses next week, few expect full capitulation or retreat...."

Writes Jeremy W. Peters, in "In Shift From 2020, Identity Politics Loses Its Grip on the Country/There are signs that society is moving away from the progressive left’s often strict expectations about how to discuss culture and politics" (NYT).

In general, people don’t like to be told what to think and what they can say. They also don’t like being lectured by their self-anointed betters. “Losing its grip” understates the situation. Folks are actively resisting the mind virus.

of COURSE she now says: I think we should follow the law

They've CHANGED the "law" to be what THEY want.

The GOOD NEWS is, for better or ill; the election will be over (in 3 to 5 weeks.. or months)

mikee said...

How nice, that she thinks the law should be followed. And based on this kind of response to a direct question, if in future she thinks the law should not be followed, I presume that would be OK for her, too.

She really IS a dolt.

“The question for those in the progressive wing of the party is whether they continue to pursue some of their more polarizing ideas about identity”

That presumes that they are rational individuals who make pragmatic decisions to accomplish their agenda. However, that is not the case. These progressives are ideologues. Their agenda would be to pursue an even more radical position on these issues until they take total control of society.

Look, I'm all for cutting off the genitals of as many Democrats as they want. We don't want those people to even have the equipment necessary to perpetuate their genetics for even one more generation.

But I'm not paying for it.

The election is not going to be over in 3-5 weeks. The war is going to last for the next 3-5 decades.

Dixcus said...

She was bailing out arsonists. She only wants the laws she supports to be followed.

I for one would be willing to contribute to a fund dedicated to the purpose.

Unfortunately, since they control the schools, they don’t need their own children to perpetuate their agenda.

Forced pronouns and they-them stupidity = own it, leftists.

Peachy said...

These shifts are all fake. She is a radical progressive.

The corrupt d-left opened our southern border and let 10+ million illegals in, and yet they whine about "childless cat lady" or something that makes no impact to our daily lives.
The left back trans madness.. they do. and now they realize it's not a winner - so they climb down. but it is still there.
Trans madness, crime and open border = DEMOCRAT PARTY BACKBONE AND WHO THEY ARE.

If Harris wins, this "trend" will reverse itself. Like Biden, Harris is a tool of the Gramscian Marxists for whom identity politics are useful. Biden didn't know it. She will embrace them.

More pre-election promiseering. We garbage people will keep being treated like Tommy Robinson.

The Soviet Hacks - like Van Jones - are now saying Trump is going to imprison everyone, outlaw mixed raced marriage, and of course ban abortion outright - and follow the Margaret Atwood fantasy of forced births. These people are insane, desperate liars.

Sex and gender. Transgender refers to a state or process of divergence from sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation). Transgender conversion therapy should be left to adults who undertake life denying changes and forward-looking dysfunction with informed consent.

Actual REAL adult trans-gender and homosexuals who care - are sick and tired of being a prop for the pedo-left's bad and abusive ideas.
Like- forced and secret trans-confusion for kids, men in women's locker rooms, and men in sports.

If Don Bacon loses his House seat to Tony Vargas, this will be why. Vargas voted to allow continued mutilation of children in Omaha, but Bacon hasn’t even brought it up! And his campaign manager said he would. Big mistake!

Harris is like Groucho Marx. She has principles. If you don’t like them, well, she has other principles.

So the democrat media are just fine being gaslighted by a democrat. I thought so.

Watch this and feel the hate towards the Democrat Party Press.

Peachy said...

She is also out there lying and saying she never said what she said.

Dave Begley said...

And why is transgenderism divisive with respect to minors? That never should have been the case. For the past 100 years, the law has protected children.

I expect that, should Harris win, to the extent that she has any influence at all over the executive, it will be leadership by polling and focus group. She won’t do anything too unpopular. Like Bill Clinton, her decisions will be based on the state of her approval rating.

I think KH was honestly hoping to campaign primarily on abortion, with a kind of extension into intrusive medical treatment for allegedly trans children: bodily autonomy. The latter issue may be getting away from her. I love Vance's line: if you are rejecting the body aka nature, this is a bit like conversion therapy. She could fudge on everything else. As Coulter says, she has made a fairly definite statement that she no longer opposes fracking (a change from when she was 55 to when she turned 60), but she is probably lying. She sensed the immigration issue getting away from her, so she came up with some bullshit about being tough, just like she was a tough prosecutor (shameless plea-bargaining to give up the most serious charges, and then relatively heavy penalties for the remaining charges: lots of convictions, relatively heavy penalties, bullshit).

I could offer her most powerful slogan, perhaps the one she has thought most about (if thought is the right word): abortion today, abortion tomorrow, abortion forever. Women in general probably want abortion to be available as a kind of backup, the nanny fuckers including Schwarzenegger and Emhoff all like abortion on demand, fathers and other relatives of these people may feel a certain relief at some abortions taking place, and so on.

Kamala's campaign should start playing the Jackson Browne song "Running on Empty". They are looking like the Yankees in game 5 of the World Series.

This this NYT saying "good riddance" to Kamala Harris and the not entirely insane Democrats, and "come on in" to the Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Trans wing that must carry on the MAFA project.

Maybe the country is moving on because the progressive left has destroyed Hollywood, for one thing. And guess what? Hollywood was a central plank of the US's soft power. The rest of the world is moving on from US leadership, which is apparent to anybody paying attention.

It's just possible that the neocons have figured out that this bizarre gender stuff, I mean fore fronting it at the expense of the traditional, has dealt a severe blow to worldwide perception of the United States, and that much of the world now views North America as a giant funny farm. And when it starts costing us real power, they are going to step in and put a stop to it, whatever Harris may personally have professed to believe to get elected in California.

BS. If she wins there will be neither capitulation nor retreat. It will be full on what we have now. Maybe even worse.

The headline writer confuses identity politics with wokeism. Identity politics is still the foundation of the Democratic Party, even though voters in the various identity groups are defecting to Trump. Wokeism is in eclipse now. Voters are more concerned about the economy. Democrats parry this with abortion, abortion, abortion. There is no room for pronouns now. Childhood sexual transitions aren't a winning issue. What things will look like after the election is hard to say, but identity politics is so much a part of the Democratic Party and the country that it won't go away.

Lazarus said...

"Mrs. Harris" leaves me wondering if Kamala will be going to Paris for a Dior gown or shooting her lover, the diet doctor, come Tuesday.

Four days before the election, and I don't think anybody's brought up that she's Kamala Harris, not Kamala Emhoff (or Kamala Harris Emhoff). It's natural, of course -- Kamala Haris had a political career before she married Doug Emhoff -- but everyone accepting it as natural is something that might have been noticed and remarked on.

How is any of this surprising?
Kamala was absolutely honest when she said that her values have not changed. Her (primary/only?) value is the desire to be elected. Therefore flip flopping, depending on time, location, audience, interviewer or the latest poll is completely consistent with her values.

It's funny how they call it "gender affirming surgery" when it's actually "gender changing surgery." But those are the word games that they play these days. Just look at the following evolution of this: Illegal alien to illegal immigrant to undocumented immigrant to undocumented migrant to migrant.

Kamala: We'll follow the law.
