I'm going to remember to use the Althouse portal next time I order from Amazon. I realized this morning while stepping over (DS) dogshit that you really aren't compensated at all for all the housekeeping you have to do. It's not just the releasing from comment-jail, I was reminded today, but the really hideous piles of shit you have to clean out sometimes, Augean stable style.

It's a tiny contribution, but I need to do my part to say thank you.

Good to see althouse up and walking. And yes, use the Amazon portal.

Thanks Mike (MJB) Wolf for the reminder to use the Althouse Portal. It was just my pleasure to hit the “Donate” button (also on the right panel) to make my annual contribution. Thank you Ann. Your blog is better than ever.

"Good to see althouse up and walking."

Are you picturing me lying about, a malingerer?

I go out walking in the woods twice a day most days. I get 10,000 steps.

Supposedly 10,000 steps is 5 miles. At 3 MPH walking pace, thats 100 minutes of walking every day. That's quite a bit, especially given the rain/snow in Madison.

Its not quite Greece, with the hanging Octopi and the Aegean sea in the background...but barren trees and Lake Mendota probably feel as nice.

The red cap, the shades... Althouse looks like a garden gnome gone Hollywood.

Looks wintry up there.

Good to see that it's possible to get a picture around Madison in November 2024 that is not gloomy.

"Bright above h(er) shone the heavens,
Level spread the lake before him;
From its bosom leaped the sturgeon,
Sparkling, flashing in the sunshine;
On its margin the great forest
Stood reflected in the water,
Every tree-top had its shadow,
Motionless beneath the water.
From the brow of Hiawatha
Gone was every trace of sorrow,
As the fog from off the water,
As the mist from off the meadow.
With a smile of joy and triumph,
With a look of exultation,
As of one who in a vision
Sees what is to be, but is not,
Stood and waited Hiawatha.
Toward the sun h(er) hands were lifted,
Both the palms spread out against it,
And between the parted fingers
Fell the sunshine on his features,
Flecked with light h(er) naked shoulders,
As it falls and flecks an oak-tree
Through the rifted leaves and branches.
O'er the water floating, flying,
Something in the hazy distance,
Something in the mists of morning,
Loomed and lifted from the water,
Now seemed floating, now seemed flying,
Coming nearer, nearer, nearer.
Was it Shingebis the diver?
Or the pelican, the Shada?
Or the heron, the Shuh-shuh-gah?
Or the white goose, Waw-be-wawa,
With the water dripping, flashing,
From its glossy neck and feathers?
It was neither goose nor diver,
Neither pelican nor heron,
O'er the water floating, flying,
Through the shining mist of morning,
But a birch canoe with paddles,
Rising, sinking on the water,
