Just now: The NYT observes that Trump has won.

It was the calling of Wisconsin that put him over the numerical line, chez NYT:
ADDED: I saw — at 6:03 Eastern — that the NYT called it at 6:03 because my son Chris texted me the image of that map above. It was funny that I — who'd been clicking around — got the NYT news from Chris, because last night he texted me that he was going to look away from the reporting of the returns. Going off to read last night, he said: "I predict I will find out the outcome of the election even if I try to avoid it."

AP called Wisconsin and the election for Trump about 30 minutes ago. He appears to be ahead in NV, MI, and AZ as well. I'm guessing they got the word from the Harris campaign that the post-election lawfare will be minimal.

Earnest Prole said...

How’s that lawfare workin out for ya?

Temujin said...

Wisconsin did it. Thank you, all.

Watching the post-mortems on MSNBC. Delicious.

Thank you Wisconsin. Trump swept the Blue Wall. He took the popular vote. He proved that in fact you cannot beat someone running a "somebody" at least not when times are dire. Godspeed 47!

Are they still looking for paths to victory in PA? LOL.

I love the balanced, reconciliatory tone the NYT is taking with its front page links:

Not a word about what Harris may or may not have done that led to this outcome. It's all on Trump.

The Most Reverend Al Sharpton just pronounced on MSNBC that Trump won because America is sexist and racist.
You go with that, brother.
Scarborough correctly points out that the Democratic Party and their policies are disconnected from the American people.
Where's that been for the last few years?

It wasn't just Trump that dodged a bullet this year - the whole world did!

Jaq said...

On the one hand, it's pretty funny, on the other, this a whole edition of a major newspaper that boils down to "snipers wanted." Now they are going to have to slant their news to make all of these predictions appear true, or they are going to become ridiculous.

Trump won outside the margin of fraud. Apparently winning the popular vote is a nice touch. That should tone down the anti-electoral college rhetoric for awhile.

Could this be the year when the mainstream media finally lost its ability to influence a majority of Americans? And when podcasters like Rogan and platforms like Musk’s X became the dominant news model?

And can we finally put pollsters and celebrities out to pasture?

What an amazing turn of events. I honestly believe that Trump is the greatest political figure of my life time. Even surpassing Reagan. Godspeed to the man and his 2nd presidency.

I had other things going on today, but I know now I should've saved every post - especially the one where the sanctimonious school marm demanded we look into our souls - upon Trump's inevitable loss.

She's since deleted EVERY comment.

We all saw it, Inga.

You claim your hobby is politics and current events.

May I suggest a new one? Maybe Arts and Crafts time during your stay at Winnebago?

Such a dilemma for media - must disparage Trump but need him bigly for their clicks.

I just walked outside to observe the sky brightening (and to put out the recycle bin). I am hundreds of miles from Metro DC but I thought I could smell the burn barrels and bleach bit from here.

This morning I am not in a forgiving mood.

I am hopeful the slow deliberate plodding of an effective government roots out the evil that is sulking this morning, though some of them are fleeing like Diddy has them on film. I am hopeful the political prisoners Democrats incarcerated will be freed before the inaugural lunch. I am willing to accept the chaos and danger of addressing the humanitarian mess the previous administration bestowed upon us at our expense.

I will gloat a bit at the losers this time. I will be grateful for the brave Americans who never wavered in the face of evil, with special recognition to those who switched sides..

Nope. I've gone back and deleted duplicates. It's author delete.

She spent at least 30 minutes - going through every thread - deleting every foolish, over-confident comment.

It's a chickenshit move, but can you blame her?

Somebody go check on Inga. She may be trying to harm herself. Or harm Trump.

Historic election; Trump pulls off a rare split term, Biden saves Jimmy Carter from going down as the worst President ever and Hillary Clinton can take some small comfort in the fact that she's now no longer the worst Democrat candidate in history.

Aren't you a Republican, Rich? Doesn't victory feel good? I know that you only disliked Trump because you were convinced he was going to cause Republicans to be repudiated and put out of power for a generation, or something like that? Or is that line of BS of yours "no longer operative."

It's pretty funny that Inga went through and deleted all of her comments, but I also consider it a small act of archive vandalism. She so frequently commented that a large percentage of comment sections reference what she said, and now those conversations are hard to understand forever.

When Althouse links past posts, I like to flit through the comments—it's often more interesting than the comments of the present, because it puts me back in the mindspace of those times and conversations, which are less vivid in my mind now.

Watch for the screams of terror about censorship and conservative government overreach into the sacred territory of the beloved First Amendment.

They still don’t get it. This was an epic fail of legacy media to cover the news. While they were focused on providing a safe space for their snowflake readers, the story of this race went largely unexamined. They were affirming the narrative, day in, day out, and continue to do so. They have no clue what voters were going through. No clue what the issues were, because they didn’t cover any issues.

Yancey Ward said...

RIP- once again.

Watching the news this morning, and discovered that Trump actually improved his percentage of Wisconsin and Michigan in 2020 and again in 2024. Odd that he still lost both in 2020 to Sleepy Joe.

tommyesq said...

Also, this election cycle, less people identified as democrats than as independents. Dems were only 32% of the electorate.

Yancey Ward said...

Kristol is a moron. You can only look at counties that have finished a count and all of those last night showed her consistently running 2-3 points behind Biden's margin.

Hassayamper said...

This victory belongs to Merrick Garland, Jack Smith, Judge Engoron, and the local prosecutors who orchestrated the most transparently political show trials in American history.

Could this be the year when the mainstream media finally lost its ability to influence a majority of Americans? And when podcasters like Rogan and platforms like Musk’s X became the dominant news model?

Beyond all doubt. If you add the viewership of all the networks to the readership of the five biggest newspapers, Joe Rogan's audience beats them handily.

And citizen-journalists posting on X, backed up by the marvelous Community Notes feature, are now the definitive source of news for billions of people, easily circumventing the liars and censors and propagandists of government and the news media.

Rory said...

The Harris candidacy was based on a massive denial of civil rights - the Democrats' override of 15 million votes in the primaries. Anyone who ratified that denial - donated to her campaign, put out a lawn sign, knocked on doors - should face consequences.

Yancey Ward said...

Did Ingbat really delete all of her pre-election comments? If so, that is fucking hilarious!

I hope the Bidens can find it in their hearts to allow Mrs Harris to accede to the presidency for about a week in January. This would have the additional grace of irritating Mrs Clinton and Mr and Mrs Obama.

Nothing I've read makes me think that KH is clever enough to have been a 'mastermind' of the putative cabal; a patsy only, sure. Although on reflection I don't see how even in that case the Bidens would feel it to be in their interest to 'reward' her unless Mrs Clinton ('the first woman president') really was the chief strategist of the coup (or if they believe this). In any event, it is much more pleasant to speculate about such things this morning than to be looking ahead to a Harris presidency.

I'm glad and frankly relieved Trump managed to win. I say "managed to win" because the margin was closer than expected. Pundits I follow were predicting more of a 2/3 Electoral College victory. The results show Harris had a real chance at winning won although it is hard to pin down why exactly she did not. The nation is disturbingly divided.

It was very sad to wake up this morning and see so many of my far left friends having complete meltdowns on social media.

It does prove one thing. They were right about the dangerous effects of misinformation and disinformation. What they didn't realize was that they were the real victims of it. They seriously believe that all the extreme, horrible things that they were told about Trump will now come true.

Where they were wrong was in thinking that the government and media companies should be the ultimate fact checkers. The government and the media actually led them down this dark path of irrationality. What might have saved them was to simply open their minds to other points of views and use logic and reason to determine the truth.

I would not be surprised to hear that some people actually commit suicide because of this election.
