Immediately after the debate, Harris's campaign said, "Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?"
Being "ready" for a rematch isn't the exactly the same thing as demanding a rematch. I assume both sides are spinning the first debate by saying things about a possible second debate, and they are in the middle of negotiating the terms and generating new material to use to insult each other.

If they were to do another (God forbid - I'm tired of listening to my husband rant at the tv and my strong underdog bias makes ME take the bait whenever he gets started on what a bad debater Trump is), oh please, please, someone convince Trump to do some prep. Kamala Harris won the debate because the bar was so low for her, and because Trump is his own worst enemy.
No debates after voting starts. That happens in 10 days. If people want Fall debates they should stop the voting starting so early.
The media want a debate to get clicks and eyeballs. Trump should do podcasts and rallies. The goal here should be to kill the MSM wing of the Democrat party.

Exactly. Yet, I m not sure it still wasn’t a strategic victory for Trump. He behaved like who he is, a thin-skinned over- confident purveyor of exaggerations and platitudes. I am a fan of Trump. I know he has flaws, I am not saying he is perfect, but I am an affirmative voter for Trump. That said the one thing that I think Trump does better than anyone possibly ever in US Politics, is counter punch.
I think Trump has a hard time taking advice from other people, and why not his personal instincts have been the right thing to do the majority of the time. Now that he has had a debate with Kamala, I would expect he would be much tougher in debate number 2.
And for what it is worth, I think the way Trump goads Kamala into another debate is by claiming to not want one.
Maybe Trump is tired and wants Kamala to win.
Ron DeSantis' positions as a Paul Ryan suckup while in congress (support for TPP and voting to give obama Fast Track Authority, etc) would have completely and utterly "Romney-fied" any potential DeSantis campaign.

It wouldn't surprise me if Harris has both a gun and a permit. At a certain level of fame, there is a distinct self-preservational fear response,, and almost all of those people have had nasty interactions at one time or another. She has security - now - but I bet she's had more than one unpleasant encounter during her career, considering how many people she prosecuted unfairly. Second, positions on gun control have almost nothing to do with individual motivations of self-preservation. And Harris could care less about gun control when it comes to her safety. This is another feature of fame.
I watched almost all of it, and wasn't surprised by anything. They both dodged questions to push their hobby-horses, and Muir and Davis acted like the good little apparatchiks they are, leaning on the scales as expected.
I still intend to hold my nose and vote against the DC Blob.

This compares favorably to globalist backed DeSantis being unable to capture a single delegate in the republican primary...partially because of how horribly the DeSantis online supporters comported themselves during the campaign.

I don't think either of them has much incentive to do another debate. I think Harris was helped marginally in that she easily cleared the bar set by Biden in the first debate, but a second debate isn't likely to do more, and she might get stuck with more neutral, professional moderators which could be problematic for her. Meanwhile, Trump didn't help himself particularly, but he's also an extremely well known quantity, so I doubt he lost any support. Another debate would likely just be more of the same, unless they get neutral moderators, in which case Harris would probably back out.
Per Drago @9:40, this was the point I was trying to make to my very upset husband: Trump wasn't talking to him (or me); he was talking to people in communities overstressed by thousands of illegal immigrants, to people whose purchasing power was already close enough to the edge that the price of gas and groceries is really hurting them, to people who wonder if there is a place for them in an American society that celebrates ersatz "diversity" of appearance and attraction but no longer celebrates real achievement and industry.
It doesn't matter, though. I find myself glumly conscious of the fact that - as I said on another thread a few days ago - intelligence and critical thinking are not required for voting (nor do I believe they should be under our supposedly shared value set even though it's tempting to consider an oligarchy of the bright), and half the population is on THAT side of the bell curve.
The moderators clearly won the debate. Trump should have said, "Who am I debating here? " But he didn't.

If she had, as Dan Bongino points out, there would be a "snapshot or soundbite" that shows her killer moves. There are no viral takes from last night. She isn't impressive. She didn't win over any new voters. She did reassure her base that its OK to keep hating and fearing Trump. A base that she shouldn't still be worrying about this late in the election process.

So far Harris has done a friendly CNN interview with Walz at her side and an ABC debate with two moderators on her side. I seriously doubt we'll hear anything more from her other than stump speeches.
It'll never happen, but an actual debate sure would be nice. Joe Rogan's platform is the logical choice for a serious discussion of the issues, but sadly the days of real debates are long gone.

I guess she won the debate, but debate winners don't always win elections. Anyway, she didn't come across as especially focused, articulate or likable. She came across as more focused and articulate than the Kamala Harris of previous appearances. Also, she's younger than Joe Biden and not cognitively impaired other than the stupidity so you can see why Democrats are so enthused by presence and performance........I don't think she was much different than when she debated other Democrats back in 2020. No one was charmed or enthused back then. Democrats like her better than Trump, but not better than such charismatic figures as Rep. Nadler. He could have probably taken her in a primary.
