I was listening to a cover song playlist yesterday and heard this version of Go Your Own Way by the Cranberries. I really liked it. It was originally on a Fleetwood Mac tribute album in 1998, and was a bonus track on a re-release of the Cranberries' album To The Faithful Departed in 2002.

Why did Trump lie and said that Governor Kemp couldn’t get ahold of President Biden? Kemp is on video saying he spoke with Biden the day before.

“The governor’s doing a very good job,” Trump said of Kemp. “He’s having a hard time getting the president on the phone. Federal government is not being responsive.”

“Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) expressed his appreciation for the role the federal government has played in responding to Hurricane Helene, contradicting comments from former President Trump, who claimed during a Monday visit to the state that Kemp had trouble reaching President Biden.
Kemp and White House officials confirmed Monday that Biden spoke to the governor on Sunday to offer support as the state sorts through the damage from Hurricane Helene.“

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The federal government was bringing truckloads upon truckloads of supplies to people in North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene, officials reported Monday.

Members of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were providing 40 truckloads of water and 20 truckloads of food to North Carolina each day as of Monday, Sept. 30. FEMA is assisting with response efforts across the state, as many communities continue to grapple with devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

FEMA said it was working with Buncombe County, where Asheville is located, on Monday to "help gain a complete picture of the ongoing response efforts and where gaps exist that can be filled with federal resources.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was working with local and state officials to set up generators where they’re most needed, FEMA said Monday. Officials were also working to restore Asheville’s main hospital to “100% functionality as soon as possible,” and to for critical supplies for survivors.

Getting in touch with people in affected communities has been difficult due to power outages and a loss of cellular service across western North Carolina. Flooding had also made several roads impassible. Hundreds of search-and-rescue personnel were on the ground in North Carolina as of Monday, FEMA said.

Satellite receivers have been provided by FEMA to help “stabilize communications” across the state, officials said.

“He’s lying, and the governor told him he was lying. The governor told him he’s lying. I’ve spoken to the governor, spent time with him, and he told him he’s lying. I don’t know why he does it … that’s simply not true, and it’s irresponsible,” Biden said in response to Trump.”

Interesting article to drop on the morning of the Veeps debate quotes Harris making the strange admission: “Vice President Kamala Harris revealed Monday that she suffered from insomnia after President Biden endorsed her as his successor — and that she was sleep deprived the morning she picked her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Have we reached the Tom Eagleton stage of Walz’s odd career? Given yesterday’s “I’m nervous about disappointing Kamala” article I sense a deliberate one-two punch delivered by Harris’s campaign to her own pick.

It was probably innocent: those employees just happen to work at those desks, or the black employees were excited and made sure they got as close to her as possibke.

And of course, there are only bad racial optics for whites and Asians.

But even if no Republican makes a campaign ad out of it, the white and hispanic flood victims will see a bunch of grinning DC paycheck collectors behind Harris and remember it next month.

I’m watching Morning Joe rn and they’re showing the families of missing Hispanic employees from a flooded out factory.

It’s a terrible tragedy in NC and GA and Trump, as usual, politicizes the situation with another lie.

“He (Kemp) is having a hard time getting the President on the phone. They….. are completely unresponsive”. Kemp, when asked, “The President just called me yesterday afternoon….. and “Hey, what do what you need”

It’s all the thousand of little lies that add up to ‘unfit to serve’.
There is something qualitatively different about the new Trump lies.

Once upon a time, he would exaggerate, often wildly, but there was at least a grain of something at the core.

Nowadays, he's just inventing complete fiction and claiming it's real.

Mike (MJB Wolf) - The devil is in the details. If we cut all income taxes to a flat 1%, I estimate (off the top of my head and that not factoring in GDP growth from those cuts), federal income tax collections would drop twenty fold. So - In order for the tax collections to equal what they would have been, the GDP would have to increase 20 times. I do not think that is possible. The Laffer Curve is solid therory and has won awards. but C's and R's must recall that the Laffer Curve is a curve. At a certain point lowering tax rates so much does result in a net, factoring in GDP growth, decline in federal income tax collections.

Just got our Annual Notice of Coverage from our Medicare Advantage provider. Along with it came a Notice of Privacy Practices and a member authorization to release protected health information (PHI). I don't recall seeing this before, and I haven't had to fill out such a form previously, so I'm wondering if it's something new.

In the section describing how and when my PHI is released, there are these sections:
-Public Health and Safety
We may disclose your PHI to the extent necessary to avert a serious and imminent threat to your health or safety, or the health and safety of others. We may disclose your PHI to a government agency authorized to oversee the healthcare system or government programs or its contractors, and to public health authorities for public health purposes. We may disclose your PHI to appropriate authorities if we reasonably believe that you are a victim of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or other crimes.

Law Enforcement
We may disclose limited information to a law enforcement official concerning the PHI of a suspect, fugitive, material witness, crime victim, or missing person. We may disclose the PHI of an inmate or other person in lawful custody to a law enforcement official or correctional institution under certain circumstances. We may disclose PHI where necessary to assist law enforcement officials to capture an individual who has admitted to participation in a crime or has escaped from lawful custody.

Military and National Security
We may disclose to military authorities the PHI of Armed Forces personnel under certain circumstances. We may disclosed to authorized federal officials PHI required for lawful intelligence, counterintelligence, and other national security activities.

I'm wondering what law is operative here.

I didn't put up all the sections, and some of them are pretty much boilerplate from HIPAA, but the ones above seem, well, intrusive. Maybe the intent is to head off crazies or politically motivated bad actors, but using PHI to do it seems like a bridge too far.

A few years ago our primary care providers used to ask of we had any guns on the house or if we ever felt unsafe. I can see that as applying to wellness care, but taking that information and sharing it with law enforcement, or an agency tasked with national security issues, could very easily be abused for political purposes. If those agencies are using established resources for gathering Intel, that is, doing their job, they shouldn't need our PHI.
