@ dingbat Inga: Remember Bill Clinton lovingly creating a cross from little sticks conveniently found in his path on Normandy's Omaha Beach, when he was there to commemorate the invasion's 50th anniversary in 1994?
The ad I saw was so ridiculous I almost thought it was from the Babylon Bee. It went on about all the things the Project 2025, which Trump himself wrote, was going to do. It stopped short of saying that Trump's minions would be checking our underwear.
"an astoundingly false Kamala anti-Trump ad" I think I saw the same one. So, 1. Dems think they can lie with impunity, no one will check or hold them accountable. 2. It was a GOTV, Trump-bad base mobilizer, a little too obscure and vaguely ominous to appeal to normies.
I hear that the LPGA will allow men to compete on the women's golf tour next year. Sad, it was my favorite spectator sport, but nevermore.
I do wish the top women golfers would just tell the LPGA, go ahead with your junior tour for men who aren't good enough to compete with other men. I'm outta here.
The last U.S. flight departed from Kabul airport on August 30, 2021. Trump never went to Arlington Cemetery to commemorate the event in 2022 or 2023. He only did it in 2024, just 2 months before the election. And he went there with his personal press and video entourage. This was a politically staged event. Yes, the Democrats do it as well. But it is wrong for the Democrats to use Arlington Cemetery as a political prop for a political campaign, and it is wrong for Republicans to use Arlington Cemetery as a political prop for a political campaign.
At his Michigan rally, Trump announced that under a second Trump term, IVF treatments would be totally free, either because the government would cover them directly or because insurers would be required to cover it.
Trump was also asked how he'd vote on the Florida ballot initiative that would overturn the state's six-week abortion ban and guarantee access to abortion through an amendment to the Florida state constitution. Trump said in response, "I think six weeks is too short. It has to be more time. I've told them that I want more weeks."
Trump is very well aware of how politically toxic his abortion position is, but I am going to presume that Trump is going to vote no on this amendment, because his position is that it's up to the states, and this is the position the state of Florida chose, so ergo, he is fine with this number of weeks.
It's worth noting that Trump has refused to support any of the efforts that have been put forward to protect access to IVF.
Vance voted against the bill to protect access to IVF and the Republican platform, which Trump signed off on and embodies his platform includes fetal personhood, which would effectively ban IVF.
It would be wonderful if we could fight for insurance companies to cover it, or the government to mandate it. But Trump's problem is not that. Trump's problem is that he has taken a position that is allowing various states to put IVF access in jeopardy, not because of the cost, but because the Christian Nationalist right thinks that every single embryo is a person.
Took one back road today that I'm on a lot, but not for the last few weeks. Two new Trump signs, still no Harris signs. One said "Farmers for Trump". Got a lot of farmers on back roads around here. The other was a yard sign that consisted of an enlarged assassination photo with one large word in the center, with an exclamation point: "Fight!"
And I was on another main road that I'm rarely on- and saw 5 Trump-Vance signs, of the type that county committees print up and distribute. No Harris signs.
Matter of fact, haven't seen any yet, even in heavily Democrat strongholds, which do exist in CNY. I'm sure there are such signs displayed. Somewhere. Just I haven't passed by them...
So riddle me this- Was there anyone there on those occasions? And did they invite him to be there? If those questions don't both have affirmative answers, then, So what? Is there some point you thought you were making?
Perhaps Trump wasn't invited by Gold Star families as he was this year. Has he used the pictures in campaign ads? As far as I can tell this whole issue only came to light because Democrats have tried to make it a political issue.
a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/31/books/review/constitution-secession-democracy-crisis.html">The Constitution Is Sacred. Is It Also Dangerous?
"The United States Constitution is in trouble. After Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, he called for the “termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” Outraged critics denounced him for threatening a document that is supposed to be “sacrosanct.” By announcing his desire to throw off constitutional constraints in order to satisfy his personal ambitions, Trump was making his authoritarian inclinations abundantly clear.
It’s no surprise, then, that liberals charge Trump with being a menace to the Constitution. But his presidency and the prospect of his re-election have also generated another, very different, argument: that Trump owes his political ascent to the Constitution, making him a beneficiary of a document that is essentially antidemocratic and, in this day and age, increasingly dysfunctional.
After all, Trump became president in 2016 after losing the popular vote but winning the Electoral College (Article II). He appointed three justices to the Supreme Court (Article III), two of whom were confirmed by senators representing just 44 percent of the population (Article I). Those three justices helped overturn Roe v. Wade, a reversal with which most Americans disagreed. The eminent legal scholar Erwin Chemerinsky, worried about opinion polls showing “a dramatic loss of faith in democracy,” writes in his new book, “No Democracy Lasts Forever”: “It is important for Americans to see that these failures stem from the Constitution itself.”
And here I thought it was Republicans shredding the Constitution.
lonejustice IIRC you posted the same thing yesterday. Gospace raises the right questions, which you dodge: was Trump invited to any ceremonies on those annivesary dates? Did he decline them? How about some facts?
Why isn't it also wrong for world leaders to ROUTINELY lay wreaths at the military cemeteries of countries they pay state visits to?
And if it's wrong for both parties to use Arlington Cemetery for political events, why isn't wrong to use ANY public events to commemorate fallen American soldiers, say, on Veteran's Day?
Finally, where's it written down that Lonejustice gets to make up shit as he goes along?
I've been to Arlington Cemetery, as I imagine many of the commentators here have been as well, and I witnessed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I was overwhelmed. Afterwards, I walked around the cemetery all by myself. I couldn't stop crying. Thankfully, I didn't encounter a fucking politician, Democrat or Republican, staging a campaign event using the cemetery as a political prop. For that I am eternally thankful.
Trump never went to Arlington Cemetery to commemorate the event in 2022 or 2023. He only did it in 2024, just 2 months before the election.
Stop lying. It's been told to you countless times that he was INVITED this year where he hadn't been in the past. You know this. You've been told this. Yet you continue to lie about it.
You're no better than any other leftist lying sack of shit who's been posting the same thing. And you need to fuck right off just like those lying leftists.
A paywalled article. For starters I'd like to see exactly where Trump called for a “termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” Can't find it anywhere on line.
And fer crissake: how many times does it have to be repeated that the Constitution is an anti-majoritarian document creating a constitutional REPUBLIC. The Framers REJECTED a pure democracy, as it would lead to a perpetual tyranny of the majority. In particular they REJECTED a popular vote for POTUS, because the most populous states would ALWAYS control the outcome. That's why the electoral college exists, to keep the lesser-populated states in play. It's also why each State has only two Senators, something else the Radical Left finds "unfair".
But if you're a pol from a blue-state NY, CA, IL, or NJ, nothing offends your desire for Plenary Power than to be frustrated by all those piss-ant, flyover states with their deplorable goobers.
So no, the Constitution isn't "in trouble": it's the power-mad radical Left that wants to destroy it so they can do anything they want. Just look at how that's working out for Brazil, for the UK, for France.
This isn't the first time the NYT has put up an opinion piece about how outmoded the Constitution is. I'll have to go back in the archives, but it was somewhere within the last year.
There are two absolutely diehard Democrat families in my area. One has a huge Tammy Baldwin sign but no Harris/Walz. The other has nothing on their front lawn. This is not normal behavior for them.
Just out of curiosity, I searched Duck Duck Go for “Kamala Harris flag.” The shopping search yielded no results. Zilch. What’s a fervid supporter to do?
Wait until the Radicals find out just how difficult it would be to jettison any of the Bill of Rights, the Electoral college, or the mechanisms for choosing the POTUS and Senators.

"The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate." *********** Of course, they could also just announce the doc was no longer operative, and try to rule by naked force.
I believe the bases of every tree in America would be watered in blood if that were to happen.
LLR-democratical lonejustice is "no better than any other leftist lying sack od s***" because that is precisely what he is, despite his pathetic LLR-democratical Chuck/Rich-like attempts to portray himself as a consrrvative republican on this blog.
Its hilarious these Soros/Reid Hoffman/Axelrod etc astroturfers think they are believable with their faux online personalities.
And do note how there are never any posters presenting themselves as leftists who do nothing but attack democraticals. Recall the left used to teach actual classes to lefties on how to pretend to be conservatives on radio show call ins back in the day. What Rush labeled "Seminar Callers".
Even the Hopeless Soy Boy gadfly STILL claims to be a conservative "principled" republican.

I would like to go on record saying that to my knowledge, Robert Cook has never ever claimed to be Republican. Now, he does claim to be a habitual Green voter, IIRC, while vanishingly rarely criticizing the mainstream Democrat party, but (for what it's worth) I'm cool with that. Robert is fine by me - not that I think he's got anything much right, but he seems to be an honest person. I'll have to think about how I'd rate the others. I used to think Inga was at least honest, if mistaken, but her stuff in the past six months or so, as I've said elsewhere, reads as though she's been replaced by a millennial pretending to be a grandma nurse.

One thing I have noticed with the Propaganda media, is that they sure got rid of the Trump assassination attempt story fast...but are doubling down on their hate for the Gold Star Families who requested Trump (and Biden/Harris who ignored them and have since the beginning) be at Arlington with them this year. You can see what matters most to the hate cult.
Trump was transparent about which judges he’d nominate to SCOTUS and why - they would adhere the Constitution. He won the 2016 election in part because of that commitment. Nothing shredded on this front. In fact the Constitution has been fortified by reaffirmation of proper roles, checks and balances, etc.
Looks like the Walz travels (30+) to China are getting more scrutiny regarding whether, as a National Guard member, he properly reported or got permission for such travel to a hostile country. The Pentagon appears to be slow-walking the request for documentation. Do we have a real Manchurian Candidate?
"Early Sunday, Israel announced it had discovered the remains of six hostages in Gaza murdered shortly after another hostage was successfully rescued."
Rescue one hostage, Hamas kills six, and you want a cease-fire? This is what Gad Saad calls 'suicidal empathy.' But it's not about what the protesters say it is. It's about destabilizing the existing regime to push for full-on socialism.
Am I a bad person if I don't give a crap about what happens to people who claim "duel citizenship" then think that the US owes them something because they filled out some paperwork? Either you are a US citizen or you are a freeloader. Same thing with Canadian citizens. And if you want to leave the US, leave it, don't try and entangle us in your little foreign adventures just because you decided to leave the US and live somewhere else as a citizen of that other country.

Cookie has a consistent habit of pretending to be open minded by starting with some form of "both sides do it"...and then of course trashing the conservative position or Republican politician . Here is an example from yesterday's Arlington National Cemetery:
"Well, of course, Harris is having her quiche and eating it, too...but, such is the nearly universal behavior of politicians. Enough (well-placed) criticism of Trump on this matter is emanating from other sources such that Harris could easily have said nothing, and the message would still have been widely received. Trump's disdain for soldiers--especially those have died in service?--is well known to all who are paying attention. Trump's supporter's typically aren't paying attention, but of those who may be, they will have made excuses for it, seeing it just as just one of a number of minor faults and flaws in an overall admirable man and absolutely needed POTUS."
Our resident dullard Inga is just a fucking cut and pasting dunce.
Tim in VT- You are not (necessarily) a bad person because you don't care about U.S.-Israeli dual nationals. The U.S. Government, OTOH, is a bad government if it similarly does not care. You may have a point about the advisability of the US govt allowing dual citizenship, but as long as it does, the US govt must take it seriously. Seriously, as in reacting in such a way that the example set by the first instance makes it quite clear that it will not happen again. If the US wants to be the big dog in the eastern Med, it should have stated, quite publicly on Oct 7, that the hostages who have US citizenship, of any caliber, must be released unharmed by sundown, or else. The "or else" would be that the US military would ask the IDF to step aside for a few hours and then Dresden Gaza, starting wit its best guess about where Mr Sinwar might be. It would likely lead to the deaths of the American hostages, who would go on to die in any case, but at this point there are any number of other bad actors (Houthis, e.g.) who are studying the American reaction to the Gazan festivities and doing their best to duplicate it. No blather about proportionality. Did the US satisfy itself in 1942-5 by trying to destroy the same number of Japanese battleships that were lost at Pearl Harbor?
The Biden Impeachment Report Is a Hollow Vindication The remnant right better figure out they can't beat the Democratikals at lawfare and figure out a different strategy. They have the advantage of interior lines, that is to say "a state within a state" to operate inside of.
tim in vermont (8:50am): So who was "the man who blew up the Nordstream pipeline" whom Robert Cook "defended to the final minute", and when was that? Up until a couple of weeks ago, lots of people here insisted that it was a proven fact that the U.S. blew up the pipeline, and I'm pretty sure you were one of them. So, is "the man who blew up the Nordstream pipeline" Biden? Or Jake Sullivan? Or whoever you think is really in charge?
I ask because since the Wall Street Journal published the allegation 18 days ago, a lot of people here are claiming that it's a proven fact that Ukraine blew up the pipeline. Some of them are the same people, not admitting that they must therefore have been wrong in blaming the US. Are you one of them? If so, is "the man" Zelenskyy?
Don't try to wiggle out of the dilemma by claiming that Ukraine did it but the U.S. ordered it, so it's really both. Those who've read the WSJ article (I can't) say that it alleges that the US told Zelenskyy not to do it, but he did it anyway. The fact is that anyone who thought it was a proven fact that the US did it, and now claims it's a proven fact that Ukraine did it, is a liar or a fool or a maniac or some combination of those things. Are you one of them?
The only Nord Stream facts we can rely on are that we don't know who did it, as I have insisted all along, that we may never know, and that there are other possibilities than just those two.
Only 5 named Atlantic storms have occurred at the halfway point of the hurricane season. The Mr. Peabodies of NOAA predicted a 33-named storm season. We are 12 storms under their prediction! How will we ever survive such a deficit? We're doomed, I tell you!
August in Seattle was cool and rainy. It ranked as one of the coolest and rainy Augusts in recorded history. Last August was very warm and my tomato plants were thriving. Now they're struggling. So far there have been only 3 ripe tomatoes on the two plants.

We've had very little rain in August (about .25" rather than the average 3.00"+) so things are pretty muted and dusty looking.
OTOH I just looked out the kitchen window and damme if there aren't a few stalks of "Surprise Lilies" by the driveway. We didn't see any last year.
Saw an astoundingly false Kamala anti-Trump ad a bit ago. Not a scintilla of truth. These bold lies are gonna come back to haunt.

Beautiful evening in East Central Iowa tonight. 68 degrees, dew point 51. Autumn is in the air, and I love it.
Fifty degrees hotter in central Arizona this week. I hate it.
Thanks for all you do, Althouse.
I am another Arizonian here. We expect moderate temps in about 6 weeks.
Here in Las Vegas we expect moderate temps tomorrow morning until about 9:00 AM. And so on.

The other [hit piece] opinion guest editorial about the Constitution? Yeah, here it is, from the NYT, also behind a paywall:
The Constitution Is Broken and Should Not Be Reclaimed
Trump was transparent about which judges he’d nominate to SCOTUS and why - they would adhere the Constitution. He won the 2016 election in part because of that commitment. Nothing shredded on this front. In fact the Constitution has been fortified by reaffirmation of proper roles, checks and balances, etc.
For Green read communist. All the same goals. Robert can be, and I'm being kind here, a bit of a fabulist.
Yes the greens were a stasi operation,
Looks like the Walz travels (30+) to China are getting more scrutiny regarding whether, as a National Guard member, he properly reported or got permission for such travel to a hostile country. The Pentagon appears to be slow-walking the request for documentation. Do we have a real Manchurian Candidate?

Protests Erupt, Strikes Planned in Israel After Hostage Deaths
Proving voter fraud is hard - why the left cheat.
Of course the left cheat. They LIE all the time. Liars are also cheaters.
"Jamie
And do note how there are never any posters presenting themselves as leftists who do nothing but attack democraticals. ...
I used to think Inga was at least honest, if mistaken, but her stuff in the past six months or so, as I've said elsewhere, reads as though she's been replaced by a millennial pretending to be a grandma nurse."
"Now, he does claim to be a habitual Green voter..."
Then defended to the final minute the man who blew up the Nordstream pipeline.
Robert has said--and I believe him--that he was a Reagan voter in the 80s, but has changed since. I've seen that same transition in my own family.
Is Prof taking a Labor Day vacay? It's after 9am!
They already have the Palestinian Rainbow Flag, so who needs another one?
I think you mean "dual citizenship."
It's kind of a funny malapropism. And maybe gets closer to the truth, in terms of competing loyalties, but I am not claiming I intended it.
Tim in VT-
You are not (necessarily) a bad person because you don't care about U.S.-Israeli dual nationals.
The Biden Impeachment Report Is a Hollow Vindication
The remnant right better figure out they can't beat the Democratikals at lawfare and figure out a different strategy. They have the advantage of interior lines, that is to say "a state within a state" to operate inside of.
tim in vermont (8:50am):
So who was "the man who blew up the Nordstream pipeline" whom Robert Cook "defended to the final minute", and when was that?
CLIMATE CHANGE ALERT!
