"Former President Donald Trump’s youngest child, Barron Trump, was spotted arriving at New York University Wednesday to kick off his first day of college life."

The New York Post reports, ending the mystery of where Barron Trump would be going for college.
The towering 18-year-old was flanked by Secret Service agents as he stepped onto the downtown Manhattan campus with a black Swiss Gear backpack casually slung over his shoulder. Dressed in a white polo, black pants and Adidas Gazelle sneakers, Barron’s first stop was the dean’s office before being whisked off to classes, sources told The Post.

Good luck to the kid who can't help being incredibly conspicuous.

First day in school and already summoned to the Dean’s office. The apple doesn’t fall without breaking some eggs.

Maybe he will follow Ann Althouse and go to NYU Law.

When he was younger pictures were posted of him playing with his nieces and nephews. All were having a great time.

I don't think his college years will be the happiest of his life. At NYU , lots of the kids will go out of their way to show their dislike. On the plus side, he's tall and his father is a billionaire. Things will work out eventually.

Narr said...

I trust the Secret Service agents are all on the tall side . . . not.

No offense, but if I showed a picture of your mom to some of my buddies at school, she'd definitely be "Boner of the Month".

Barron is going to be a world-beater. Being the son of a Donald Trump like personality means never really measuring up and needing to find and defend ruthlessly his own personality, which is no small feat using your larger-than-life dad and his larger-than-life family as a comparison.

Regardless of what he chooses to do with his life, I have little doubt that he will be good at it and will defend his abilities ruthlessly...once he finds out what those are.

Good luck to him. He's gonna need it.

This is actually a good thing that I think will help him in the long run. He'll learn how basic, cruel, and unimaginative people are in their likes and hatreds. He'll learn how much sex has to do with just about everything. He'll realize that being tall and being rich can't actually defend your ideas, beliefs, and values in the heat of the moment.

Of course they'll hate him.

Dude1394 said...

Good Luck Baron, sure wish I had been that tall.

He must have a lot of self-confidence and a thick skin to go to the belly of the beast. Someone said he has a great sense of humor.

Michael K said...

Where could he go to college and avoid the haters ? Nowhere.

RideSpaceMountain said...

Never avoid haters. Confront them. Crush them before you and relish the lamentations of their women.

Left is spreading rumors that he's some sort of violent autist because of course he must be. I certainly hope it's not true.

Jupiter said...

NYU? Good luck with that.

Yancey Ward said...

I admire the guts it takes to literally go into the belly of the beast at NYU. Of course, having Secret Service protection will help keep the haters at arm's length but it is no guarantee of safety.

Kate said...

If anyone's too mean to Barron, Melania will personally come to campus and beat the shit out of them.

Mary Beth said...

I would be less concerned about the ones who show their dislike immediately and more concerned that some will be fake nice just to try to get some dirt on his dad. A known enemy is easier to deal with than a false friend.

I'm not familiar with Swiss Gear. Swiss Miss is pretty good.

May All Be Well with him.
May Barron Thrive Ever.

Somewhat surprised at the choice of schools. Hopefully it turns out well.

Dr Weevil said...

Makes sense when you think about it. He can't live in a dorm (where would they put the Secret Service?) or an apartment (too dangerous). If he's going to live at home in Trump Tower and just go to campus in the daytime, and wants to go to an academically serious university that's not as crazy-hostile-Hamas-ridden as Columbia, NYU seems a good choice. Where else could he go?

traditionalguy said...

Let’s hope he doesn’t have to attend his slaughtered father’s funeral like John John did in 63. The odds aren’t good with the current Secret Service.

His old man will undoubtedly have some hard earned advice about that to impart.

At Barron's age I was 6' 5" tall. (7 decades of living has shortened me a bit). I can tell you tall people get remembered by most of the people who see them. Tall rich kids probably have it worst.

I wish the best for him!

Sent both kids to college in NYC. The education wasn't just in class.

Thought AA went to UM? Was that undergrad?

AndrewV said...

The Secret Service would have to recruit from the NBA to have agents taller than Baron Trump.

AndrewV said...

Perhaps Hillsdale College. However their business program is not what made the college famous.

RideSpaceMountain said...

Barron is going to attract more bumper than a body shop, and he's going to learn real quick about which women are trustworthy and will genuinely love him when they say so and which won't. Sadly, the only way to learn it is to go through it.

AndrewV said...

At six foot nine inches Baron Trump is one inch above the cutoff for the service academies. And before you mention seven foot one inch David Robinson, he had grown spurt after he classed up with the Naval Academy. He got a waver, seeing that the Navy wanted to win at college basketball.

Bitter Clinger said...

He is going to be the star of so many NYU coeds' Handmaid Tale fantasies!

Earnest Prole said...

Fortunately he has his father to teach him the importance of avoiding gold diggers and women of ill repute.

Bruce Hayden said...

Actually, it turns out that most of Trump’s Secrete Service agents apparently had been swapped out for fairly green Homeland Security agents that day. Why? Dr Jill’s last minute trip to the vicinity? Who gave the orders to do so? We still don’t know nearly enough.

Earnest Prole said...

“Son, it’s probably best to stay away from women named after the weather.”

Oh the burden of being tall, rich, famous, handsome, and athletic. No one else can possibly know the horrors.

They make great laptop backpacks. I’ve carried a couple of 17” laptops on flights using one of their backpacks. Very rugged, well padded for the laptops, and comfortable, but also inexpensive for quality luggage.

Are those Secret Service Agents or Homeland Security Agents who've had Zoom training?

Wonder if he follows dad and eldest sister by transferring to UPenn.

Four out of five, so it wasn't quite so horrible. :)

Narr said...

Height aside, why would anyone think Barron Trump has either the desire or the chops for a service academy?

I'll admit I don't know him very well myself, but other than being a rich man's son and tall, he seems quite average.

Skeptical Voter said...

Hassayamper I was tall at 6"5" and particularly so back in the early 60s. But I was also living proof that white men can't jump---so ditch the athletics. And I wasn't a really poor boy--rather just poor. And as for being handsome, I've seen mud fences that are better looking than me. But you work with what you got.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent said...

Meh, I'd happily bet he'll be very popular. Kids away from their parents for the first time are drawn to the transgressive. Many a second-generation Wokester will brag about being buds with Barron.

RideSpaceMountain said...

All I know is that if Barron ever needs to ditch his detachment for a moment in private, all he needs to find is a corrugated metal roof with a gentle slope to it. He could spend as much time up there as he wanted!

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent said...

As Napoleon said, being tall, rich, and good-looking has a quality all it's own.

The current USNA basketball team roster has two players who are 6'9" and one who is 6'10," the USAFA has two who are 6"9" and one who is 7', and the USMA has two who are 6'9" and one who is 6"10". Besides, the question from Dr Weevil was "where else could he go", not where should he go or where would he go. He attended the best prep schools and could easily get into any of them.

Mutaman: Trump was only describing DeNero, Clooney and Wienstein et al with that comment.

jaydub said...

Narr, are you being disingenuous or just being a prick as per usual? I assume either is possible. Regardless, I'm sure you know "average" quite well, so I'll defer to your judgement, such as it may be.

Narr said...

I'll defer to your judgement of rich brats and elite prep schools. I readily admit I have scant experience of either.

A rich kid at a service academy--besides being rare AFAIK--would be taking the place of some deserving middle or working class kid.

jaydub said...

And, I'm sure your military experience trumps my own, but during my 26 years of commissioned service, including combat tours in Vietnam and the Gulf War, I knew many "rich" kids who served with distinction. Ditto for many working class kids. Don't know why you're so fixated on wealth, but in my experience it didn't matter. Character was the important attribute. Not really surprising that fact is lost on a class warrior.

Dr Weevil said...

When I wrote "Where else could he go?" it was based on the context in which I assumed that it was a lot easier and safer to live at home in Trump Tower and be on campus mostly only in the day time. Easier for the Secret Service to keep him safe, that is. So where else in easy commuting distance of Trump Tower is there that could (if he chooses his classes wisely) provide a first-rate education? Columbia and NYU are about it, aren't they, in Manhattan?

Rosalyn C. said...

Barron could have gone anywhere but he decided to live at home and commute to college.

wendybar said...

Anybody with an actual brain can see that. The TDS affected only see what they want to see, not what is real.

'When you're a star, they let you do it.' Tell us what this means to you, Mutaman. Just a suggestion: Use the word 'groupie' and refer to movie stars and rock stars.

Narr
"He attended the best prep schools . . . ."

"Is that all it takes? I was thinking the service schools were more selective." Most of it is influence. I think both senators from their state, and the congressman in their district can recomend two candidates to each service acadamy. Some selected Jr.ROTC military prep schools can also recomend two graduates to each service acadamy.

Narr said...

Dr. Weevil, that's the way I took your comment.

Rusty, I know how the nomination process works, or used to, and the original intent was to get the best young men who couldn't afford college and make junior officers--especially engineers--out of them.

Jaydub, I have exactly the same military experience that Donald J. Trump has*, and as much combat experience as Eisenhower had in 1941. As a non-veteran I've always been open about that when commenting on military matters.

*Both he and FJB have more years of Vietnam-draft-avoidance than I do.
