"Was that supposed to be a laugh line?"

Stephen Colbert — speaking to CNN's Kaitlan Collins — began "I know you guys are objective over there, that you just report the news as it is" and the "Late Show" audience laughed.

Fake News is not a secret. And seeing that being acknowledged by this audience is funny as hell.

Interesting that CNN can’t maintain an audience yet presumes to know how to run a successful campaign. Even if they were objective, they seem to make poor decisions. I see this as old media trying to retain relevance.

Can’t see the video clip. Did Colbert laugh?

"Journalists" have spent the last 10 years driving a stake through their profession. Those that still take anything the media says "at face value" is a rapidly diminishing group. You will always have the faithful that WANT to believe what they hear but most people have learned to double-check via other sources and X is quickly becoming one of those [more] trusted other sources due to changes like community notes and making room for other voices. For those that care, alternate channels (around the world) are available to add "nuance" to the main media "stories" (and stories is the right word as the media stopped giving "just the facts" a LONG time ago) allowing a fuller picture of what is happening.

Colbert is such a bag. And unfunny. He knows CNN along with the rest are biased. So does Collins. She sits in on the meetings were strategies and talking points are created. They just don't care.

Wow, sounded like the whole audience laughed spontaneously. I admit I'm surprised. I would have thought that his audience would not really know how bad CNN is. Seems like a century ago that Trump branded CNN as fake news, and it stuck, because it's true. Everybody knows, even Colbert's audience.

Curious George said...

After the audience broke out in laughter, Collins asked "Is that supposed to be a laugh line?" and Colbert responded with a "no" and a quick nervous laugh. Then he said awkwardly "but I guess it is."

It is also "cute" how the current narrative is that Trump was thrown off by this "switch-a-roo" and doesn't know how to respond. What a joke and media wish-casting. KH has been a total abject failure at everything she has attempted as VP. She has zero accomplishments. She has either ignored or actively f*cked up everything she has been involved in. The main Trump "response" should be as he has been doing with (a) why won't she talk to the press/debate me (b) look at the boarder, (c) look at the economy, and (d) highlighting her positions and that of her pick for VP by using their own statements. Done.

That moment was as fake as the news.

It’s not only Netflix that’s a joke.

I saw Harris TV ads during the Olympics last week. The pitch was that she is accomplished and experienced, but the list of achievements was so thin that it seemed like a joke. No wonder her campaign is putting out disco vibes. They have little else.

I had to listen twice as I _thought_ she referred to Harris as "President Harris" -- but she did not. She just spoke fast. Colbert (and the CNN whore) got owned by Colbert's audience.

In 2021, after Colbert called Trump "Putin's cock holster," Yale awarded Colbert an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. As bad as U.S. higher education had become by then, that was a new low.

It's funny that they don't realize that is how America looks at them. Liars. Conspiracy theorists. Hypocrites. Progressives.

wendybar said...

Colbert is the whole Progressive parties cock holster. Along with the rest of the lying media. They think we are blind, but we are laughing at them.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

To think I thought he'd lost the ability to be spontaneously funny. Colbert's producers just added a "DON'T Applause" sign next to their standard "CLAP NOW" sign. This was my favorite story yesterday.

100% correct. Real comedians go on Greg's show regardless of their personal politics because he appreciates their art. There has to be a grain of truth for comedy to be relatable, and therefore funny. That's why the legends always made us laugh.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

It makes me wonder if the audience perceived Colbert's intro as him slipping into his old "Bill O'Reilly" type ironic character he used to do.

Every once in a while, a leftist says out loud by accident what should be kept silent. And every time, it is funny as heck.

You can gauge how embarrassing it was, by how quickly he moved on to a different subject, any different subject.

Leftists talking to leftists. yuck.

btw- It's hilarious watching Kamala campaign as a Republican.

She was against fracking. Now she is all for it.

She was the deciding vote in 2022 for "tax on tips" and other tax hiking legislation - where only Democrats voted YES with glee!

Now? She wants to do away with tax on tips.

She and Biden opened the border to millions of illegals - Now she claims to want a secure border.

She was pro-crime and pro-criminal and pro-defund the police during the St. Floyd riots... now? she claims to be against crime. LOL.
and on and on.

Dang, my first rather anodyne comment got googleslapped. The quip was that Colbert's producer has added a "DON'T CLAP!" sign to the standard "APPLAUSE!" sign these shows use.

CNN was a pay for zombie just a few weeks ago. No longer being shoved at us in airports and waiting rooms. Life was better then…

It didn't seem to phase her. Perhaps objectivity is no longer a qualification for journalists. That should be worrying though. There was a time when journalists could pretend to be objective, but that time has passed. They don't even try anymore, and they don't care that people perceive them as biased.

Gusty Winds said...

The laugh comes from a NY liberal audience. Liberals know full well the MSM has been biased and corrupt for decades. They support the bias. Just like they support voter fraud. So now that Musk has opened up X to free speech, they bitch and moan for censorship. UNFAIR!!! Musk also fully recognizes the reality of voter fraud in the USA via 1) fighting against voter ID, 2) importing non-citizen voters, 3) voting machines than can be hacked and manipulated, 4) unverified absentee voting. It's ALL a joke.

Objectivity has never been a real qualification for journalists. It's make believe. Just like unbiased judges. It hard to believe some people think either is real.

And yet, they lap it up. Because Trump/Republicans/The Right are bad.

Doesn't matter if it's false, it has Truthiness.

JAORE said...

One hopes the powers that be at CNN watch this on a loop and shudder in fear with every second.

grimson said...

It reminds me of when Trump fired Comey. It was breaking news when Colbert told his audience...and they all cheered! His lame response was "a lot of Trump voters here today."

Lazarus said...

I think it's more that the emotional connection between Trump and the public isn't there now. He was saying what everybody knew was true about Biden. What he was saying had traction. He was in a groove. He was getting a response and making an emotional connection with voters. There was also a lot of comedy in his talk about Biden. Now, Trump can say what he wants to about Harris, but it doesn't strike an emotional chord with the public. People may or may not agree with Trump about Harris, but it's in the head, not visceral, and may not motivate them to vote for him.

'Journalists' have effectively killed their own credibility, and the results are fewer viewers and dropping revenue. CNN's dying slowly - so are the other majors.

But you know - they decided to do it. Their attempts to construct the story according to how they wanted it instead of reporting it as it actually was eroded trust, to a point where it became unrecoverable.

And truth be told, they won't be missed.

Jerry said...

And the media isn't going to call her out on it - because no matter how bad she is, for THEM she's vastly preferable to Trump.

It's all about ideology - not results. They'd gladly see the country burn as long as Democrats stay in charge.

hawkeyedjb said...

You're kidding, right? They don't care, not even a little bit. Like the other Madison Ave. agencies that produce propaganda for The Party, they are proud of their work.

He had similar mishaps every so often on the Colbairrr Repourrrr. He would say something in character that he thought was beyond the pale, and the audience would genuienly cheer it.

Just a symptom of being so far inside the bubble that youre alienated from even the other bubble-dwellers.

If you're commenting on something someone else said, you have to continue to include a quote of what you're responding to in your post. The reason is, even if you do it as a nested reply, what you write will also show up in chronological-mode and it won't make any sense.

Shamala for Puppet 2024

But, yeah, Trump has to work out an attack line on this antisemitix, DEI hire. It has to be policy-based but take into account Harris's personality. Harris is just moving about, being an attractive woman in different places. She's simply empty and that's hard to attack. She just bobs away like balloon, leaving a laugh trailing behind. But she's just a puppet. Basically, Americans have been safe for so long that they think they can get the geopolitical situation wrong and still be OK. It's just the same as the way Dem voters in San Francisco think they don't have to change. It's the Jews on the Left still thinking they'd be acceptable at Ivy League universities if the people there just realized they hate America, too.
The Dems have naturalized 3 million people since Biden took office. They'll harvest their votes and then us.
