"To become a bird, pull an oversize T-shirt over your arms and torso. Hide your legs. Let your hands stick out like claws and your empty sleeves flap like wings."

"Now use your claws to grip some kind of railing. Take a selfie and upload it to social media with a chirpy caption. Some young people in China are pretending to be birds as a way of dealing with the pressures.... Many young people in China are becoming disillusioned because the story they were told from a young age — that they would have a bright future if they studied and worked hard — looks more doubtful as China’s economy slows.... '.... 'They started asking: "Why did I study so hard? What for? I sacrificed so much joy and happiness when I was young."'"

The communists will have no problem murdering millions of birds if they become a real problem. It's happened before.

Wow!

That is amazing how birdlike he looks. I had to look really carefully to determine that it was really a person not a bird.

Are we moving on from trannies now?

But can they properly chirp?

I wonder if there really is such a deep reason for this.

1950s: "Why are you young men absurdly cramming yourselves into a phone booth?"
"Because there are no more world wars or famine, leaving us bored and disillusioned."

Is this a prelude to finding out the Bird Flu had its origins in China? Say in a biolab for example?

China was doing great when Deng was running things. Then Xi decided to go back to communism. It will be interesting to see if it can be turned around. Did Xi have a stroke ?

Taking a social media fad seriously is for the birds.

This is a trick that Superman used to pull off years before the Chinese even thought of it.

The WaPo./NYT's really hates that people in East Asia (including Japan) have homogeneous societies with a strong group ethos. So we constantly get these doom and gloom articles about things are bad and Young people are rebelling against "conformity". As opposed to say Israel or the USA, where "conformity" is a good thing.

And then there are those "Look at those wacky Japanese (Chinese/Korean)" articles. Which are supposed to make us smugly think that we're superior.

This was sorta of a Two-fer.

Man, kids in Asia seem to be even weirder than kids in the US.

How does pretending to be a bird help you cope with stress, I wonder? I can see maybe imagining yourself as a bird, soaring above the mess below, but - what's this? Is it just that this generation of kids doesn't believe they've actually had a thought or an experience unless they've uploaded it?

Josephbleau said...

The fact that kids make photos like this has absolutely no meaning whatsoever, this is just something kids do to for identity. NYT fake news.

Hey Paw

What Maw?

Lem peed his name in the snow.

So what?

So it's in Sally's handwriting.

The 1950's called. They want their American sociology studies back. Here are some high points, dealing with conformity back then:

"The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit"

"The Lonely Crowd"

"The Organization Man"

"Catcher in the Rye"

"Rebel Without a Cause"

"Atlas Shrugged"

"On the Road"

If you can look out over the American landscape today and call the tens of millions of people wearing different clothing, different hair styles--including multi-colored hair---having many different musical tastes, watching TV programs over about a hundred channels offering many different program themes, many proclaiming different social sexual preferences, "conformists", you go right ahead.

I'll leave to others an explanation for your gratuitous snot-flinging at Israelis. You just can't help belching out your hatred for Jews, can you..

Yeah, we have non-conformity in the USA, because you can wear different color t-shirts. LOL!

Almost all media/entertainment comes from 4-6 mega-media companies and almost the entire media in the USA marches in lockstep on almost every issue. You want to talk about American freedom? Go talk to the J6ers or the people just put in jail for 5 years for protesting outside abortion clinics. As for the 100 TV channels - they all push the same Neo-liberal shit.

Some people at the Ivy league colleges thought they could protest Genocide in Gaza, but they found out you must conform or the ADL or some Jewish Billionaire will doxx you or try to ruin your life.

That's the USA, the land for freedom. LOL.

Fads will be fads.

Phone booth stuffing.
Paying good money for "pet rocks".
Cargo pants.
"Turbo" plastered on everything.
Paying good money for jeans with holes and/or $400+ for designer jeans.
Asymmetrical haircuts.
Japanese women wearing "boots" that reach the top of their thighs.
Planking.
Twerking.
The cinnamon eating challenge.

Dressing like a quadriplegic, dwarf, humanoid bird? Why not?

The operative word is "some". In a country with over 1.4 billion people, there are always going to be some people doing something.

Yes, it's a little weird, but it's kind of cute too and probably doesn't lower your social credit score.

Options: (1) Pretend to be a humanoid bird on social media for entertainment because the Chinese Communist Party is so controlling and so corrupt that life is unbearable. (2) Protest the Communist Chinese Party's corruption, nepotism, and social control in Tiananmen Square and be killed, jailed, or ostracized for life.

I'm guessing Option (1) will soon be treated the same as protesting in Tiananmen Square by the corrupt CCP. It is certainly more offensive to the dignity of the CCP than the Falun Gong doing Tai Chi in public back in the 1990s, and the Falun Gong is eliminated now.

Monkey Mart is not just about managing a store. You can expand your chain of stores and develop into a large retail system. This brings a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
