Looks like Elon decided to FAFO in Brazil and is now in the 'find out' half of that.

"Elon Musk won't punish the People of Brazil for the illegal acts committed by the tyrant @alexandre against him and his companies – Elon Musk will provide Starlink users in Brazil with free internet rather than shutting it off.

This is what unwavering integrity looks like.

It's easy to be 'unwavering' just hours later, what a bizarre boast.

De Moraes has frozen the accounts of X and Starlink employees in Brazil - against Brazilian law, and is now threatening to fine VPN users thousands of Reais per day unless they stop using them.

Meade, you are just so verbose

Another tyrant surfaces, Mark seems pleased. Shocks me. It’s a case of the “enemy of my enemy is my friend”. The enemy of course being free speech.

I love to swim in ponds, lakes, rivers, bays, seas, and oceans. It's great exercise for older guys like me, with less stress on the joints. Do people ever swim in Lake Mendota?

I have happy youthful memories of swimming off the dock behind the Memorial Union. Later on the east side of town, from the beach at Tenney Park. All in season, of course.

No worries. Elon could buy Brazil, but it's probably not worth having.

I love you, too Meade!

I'm sure the people of Brazil appreciate your concern, Mark.

I recently was at the Memorial Union Dock. I saw a young guy and his girl drop into a canoe with a case of beer. Happy to see that some things never change.

It turns out Walz had a good reason to be at the first Kamala interview, since getting anointed as the Democratic candidate for president.

Walz wants to know why she might want to be president.

Knowing about the recent revelations it's not really surprising that Facebook doesn't seem to be an issue in Brazil.

Yeah, the 'free speech' platform he took Saudi money to help purchase. Such paragons of speech involved in that purchase.

In the battle between Elon Musk and Brazil, there are no heroes — only two sides engaged in an epic display of hypocrisy and overreach.

Musk also looks bad because of his selectiveness. Remember, he keeps claiming that his definition of free speech is “that which matches the law.” At the very least, this highlights again how even Musk doesn’t agree with Musk’s definition of free speech, because it’s nonsensical. Supporting free speech sometimes means you have to stand up against unjust laws.

But in the end, both sides look bad here. Elon’s response is childish and inconsistent with his own statements and actions elsewhere. And Brazil’s laws seem unjust, and its enforcement of the law seems extremely out of proportion with the alleged violations. In the end, the real people who lose out are those in Brazil who have relied on ExTwitter as a useful service.

Mark, if the Saudis gave Musk that money to shut down Twitter, you might have a point.

Then again, you DO have a point, which your unconvincing hairpiece does not hide.

Elon Musk has been declared a non-person by the Supreme Democrat Soviet. Thanks for the update Mark and Rich.

This follows the non-personing of Tulsi Gabbard and RFK Jr. They are all fascist reactionaries.

I am old enough to recall that the Soviets did the same thing with everyone opposed to their rule.

Rich, it's the dick thing again. As always. If you want people to understand what you are saying, you need to take that huge dick out of your mouth. I know, I know. Life is hardly worth living without a gigantic dick or two in your oral cavity. But it makes you sound like this; "Mursk gr-blaso grooks hab-ah hrr-groob selectiveness ...".
See, that moment when you took the huge dick out of your mouth, you were able to enunciate "selectiveness" perfectly. Not that you made any sense, but at least we could understand you. C'mon. Man! Get the dick out!

Sounds about as effective as when the left points out Clarence Thomas' expensive gifted vacations.

Humperdink said...

@Mark, one country at a time. Let me ask the question again … and you can dance around it till the (farting) cows come home ….. why do you hate free speech?

Mark said...

He is in bed with the Chinese Communist Party and perfectly fine with their limits on free speech.

Cos playing as some sort of speech activist in a couple countries is not much an advocate

Humperdink said...

Interesting argument. If Musk doesn’t take on all tyrants, he should shut his yap about free speech across the board. So why are you against free speech in the US?

Drago said...

LOL

Dumb Lefty Mark at it again. Now fully in bed with the commies in Brazil against free speech and freedom.

How....unsurprising.

Drago said...

Remember, Dumb Lefty Mark has spent almost 2 years predicting the destruction of X by Threads and other social media platforms (Dumb Lefty Mark used to give us daily updates on X's inevitable demise...but no longer, hmmm) and claiming there is absolutely no difference in how X treats govt censorship demands across the globe compared to other social media platforms....which has already clearly been shown to be another sad and consistently pathetic Dumb Lefty Mark lie.

Tsk tsk tsk

FYI: Dumb Lefty Mark is also all in on the SpaceX/Tesla Failure Hope-Cope Train as well!

Mark said...

I am not, why do you keep saying without evidence?

Imposing consequences on a website for breaking a country’s laws is defensible. Imposing consequences on citizens of the country for trying to access the web site strikes me as pretty totalitarian.

Imagine if the TikTok ban was followed up by a law making it illegal to access TikTok.

I should say, is defensible if the site does business in that country. Not, I think, if it doesn’t.

Marcel Van Hattem on X:

"In Brazil, we do not have X anymore since midnight.

I am tweeting this with VPN.

This tweet may cost me almost 10,000 USD according to the decision of tyrant @alexandre de Moraes, friends with @LulaOficial : every Brazilian that post on X from now on will be fined R$ 50,000 according to his illegal "ruling".

My dignity is worth much more than that. Actually, it is priceless. I will keep tweeting regardless of State persecution or threats because I believe in freedom of expression, democracy and real Justice.

Brazilians will take to the streets. On the 7th of September we will make our voices heard very clearly. We will demand Moraes to be impeached by the Senate and to be sent to jail after a fair trial - which Moraes cruelly and unconstitutionally gives not to the people that he persecutes.

Thank you @elonmusk for standing with us. Your attitudes against censorship and authoritarianism are giving us hope and strengthening our cause for freedom in Brazil!
"

Humperdink said...

@Mark. You should be a cheerleader for what Musk done to/ for Twitter regarding Twitter’s previous censorship of opposing political views. Instead you denigrate him at every turn. That’s why it’s clear to me you favor censorship. (Read: Conservative views)

Drago said...

Poor Dumb Lefty Mark. He doesnt want to think about how he has embarrassed himself with serial predictions of X's doom!

LOL

And he clearly still thinks the future of X is just about the social media advertising dollars....its not. As any objective observer can see. X continues to build out the foundation for many other revenue stream opportunities, including direct competition to Paypal, youtube, linkedin, etc. X is now set in about 33 states for cash transfer licensing and should be set in all 50 by early 2025.

And none of the initial investors in X have bailed out for some reason....almost as if they think the future payout from X is going to be there....hmmmm.

But as for the lost ad dollars, who knows? Given where the Texas court case against Media Matters in Fort Worth appears to be heading, all that lost ad revenue, precipitated by Media Matters manipulation of the X algorithm to falsely accuse X of having particular undesirable content appear next to major corporate ad spend content, Media Matters might end up covering that manipulated loss of ad revenue for X.

We will see as each day of X operations puts the lie to Dumb Lefty Mark's "tantrum-my" and spittle-flecked out of control "predictions" driven by near-Rich-level business ignorance.

Free Speech is now solely a conservative value and those few people that currently consider themselves liberals and supporters of free speech are having to confront the reality that they are no longer welcome anywhere near the commies in Europe, Brazil and The New Soviet Democraticals in the US

X does not operate in China, nor does any other western social media platform. That has been the case for X/Twitter since 2009.
