Here is some history from the town we usually visited on Saturdays while I was growing up in Hart County, Ky.

"Civil War Generals Thomas Wood and Simon Bolivar Buckner grew up in Munfordville. One joined the Union cause, the other the Confederate. Visitors can find their boyhood homes, a former school, and even the courthouse fountain the Buckner family donated to the town. These two battled one another at Chickamauga and Chattanooga, but never at home.

The Old Munfordville Inn on South Washington Street is the oldest in town, built in 1810, back when the place was Big Buffalo Crossing. Back then, it was “the wild west,” and it also lays claim to the famous southern Kentucky travels of Jenny Lind, the “Swedish Nightingale” opera singer, as we’ve mentioned in several other stories.

There’s an Underground Railroad history here too, thanks to the Richard Munford house. More on that and Kentucky’s role in assisting escaped slaves coming soon."

My grandmother was from Hart County. There was an interesting meeting between Buckner and Union Col. John Wilder at the so-called Battle of Munfordville (more of a brief siege than a battle). Also, Buckner's son commanded US forces at Okinawa until his death (IIRC, he was the highest-ranking US officer killed in WWII). Pretty country around Munfordville.

Lt. General Buckner was the highest ranking US officer killed by enemy action; Leslie McNair's commission as lt. gen. predated his, but McNair was killed by American bombs. OTOH he had been wounded in action in Tunisia in 1943.

Frank Andrews died in an accident, and Millard Harmon was lost to unknown causes.

It's good for the morale of the lower ranks to see a general die in combat once in a while.

I've had a pleasant dinner, and now I'm out on my deck, enjoying the sunset, and the play of the fading light on the trees at the edge of my yard. I have a beer in hand, a bottle, or maybe a can. Whichever. I have a beer fridge with plenty of both, and also a kegerator spout, and various insulated pint containers. I like beer, a lot, and I can afford to indulge that liking.

But here is the thing. Once you have opened the can, or the bottle, or filled a pint from the keg, you can't save it. It will be flat by morning, if you don't drink it tonight. And watching the Sun go down, and assessing my own mental and physical state, I realize that it is time to go to bed. Day over, get some sleep. So, the beer I opened a couple minutes ago, is wasted. The thing to do, is to pour it out, over the railing, and go floss and brush my teeth and go to bed. And that is what I do.

Except. Before I pour the beer out over the roots of the splendid banana trees outside the windows of the master bedroom, I take one last swig. Why? I have already recognized that at this point in the evening's trajectory, another swig of beer will contribute nothing to my mood, or my enjoyment of life on this planet. It can only contribute to my hangover. That is why I am dumping a perfectly good half-pint of beer into the bushes. So, why do I take one, last swig, before I dump the rest? Might it not be that this explains everything that is wrong with the human race, in a microcosm?

No, probably not. But it does explain a lot.

"The two illegal Jordanian migrants who are charged with trying to breach Marine Corps Base Quantico in May posted thousands of dollars in bail and were allowed to leave federal custody, The Post can exclusively reveal.

Hasan Yousef Hamdan, 32, and Mohammad Khair Dabous, 28, were released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention despite their immigration status — Hamdan had crossed into the country illegally in April and Dabous had overstayed his student visa and is subject to removal proceedings, law enforcement sources told The Post.

They were arrested on May 3 for trespassing onto the military installation and handed over to ICE officers because of their immigration statuses.

Actually, per reports, they tried to breach the gate and triggered countermeasures. The attempted breach has an eerie similarity to Hezbollah’s 1983 bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon- a truck bombing. Given this historical backdrop, one would have expected to see a little more media interest in covering this story. But, alas, this is not the case."

WHERE is the media?? Hiding up Bidens ass, protecting Kamala from answering any questions?? Another reason to turn off your TV, and shut them out for good. They hate you, they lie to you, or they just don't tell you what is really going on, because they are an arm of the Progressive Regressive party that hates everything America stands for.

The World Atlas site tells us:

"The Budger State's capital sits proudly between Lake Mendota and Lake Mononaas. It is home to the Wisconsin college, sending youthful vibes throughout the city streets."

Attractions of America ranks the Wisconsin State Capitol #2 behind the Massachusetts Capitol on Beacon Street in Boston.

"The distinct X-shape of the Wisconsin State Capitol makes it one of the most beautiful state capitol buildings in the US."

"You won't find another building's architecture quite like the capitol's, whether viewing from an aerial perspective or the illusion of great depth from your eye level."

"It's the tallest building in Madison, thanks to a law preventing nearby buildings from surpassing its height."

Thanks Drago. Tucker Carlson’s interview with Tech CEO Amjad Masad is excellent.
Major takeaway: there’s a shift toward Trump and Republicans in Silicon Valley because of the fear of regulatory capture of AI.
Biggest surprise: (not sure I got this right but I think I did.) regulatory capture would have to entail spying software on every computer/smart phone to insure the user wasn’t trying to push AI outside the regulatory net.

Wendy, Trump was convicted on 32 counts of criminal fraud by a jury of his peers. There is nothing that the House Judiciary Committee chair, Gym Jordan, can do about that conviction.

You really need to consider that far-right news sites like Townhall exist just to stir the pot. The firms that Kamala hired in 2015 to help with her campaign have nothing to do with Trump's criminal trial in 2024. Republicans hire Republicans and Democrats hire Democrats.

I don't associate "enough" with giving up. For example, if you have two small kids squabbling, you let them work it out. Unless the intensity rises past a certain point - throwing punches, for example. At that point you say "enough" and step in.

The Italian word "Basta" means "Enough" (of this) or "Stop" (this).

Reading her comments cold without knowing the context, I am interpreting her comments as meaning she immediately changed at least some of her strategy and/or tactics that she had going into the bout.
