"Sick and tired of all this nonsense. She is a Democrat and will govern like a Democrat and that is good enough for me."

"Some polices will be a little too far left for a few and some will be a little too centrist for others, but you can guarantee that she will uphold democratic norms and try and govern to make the lives of ALL Americans better, whilst behaving with the decency becoming of the office. Everything else is just window dressing and noise."

That's the top-rated comment on "Harris’s policies have shifted and are still taking shape" (WaPo).

And I think it explains a lot about what we're seeing in the polls and in the behavior of the candidate (evading any substantive questioning).

From the article:
Since Harris catapulted to the top of the Democratic ticket less than a month ago, she has been forced to reiterate that she rejects a wide array of positions she embraced five years ago.... Republicans have not waited for Harris to issue new policy proposals before seizing on her past statements to attack her as dangerously liberal.... While Harris’s foreign policy platform is still somewhat embryonic, she is expected to largely continue Biden’s efforts on Russia’s war in Ukraine and on countering China. Less clear, and of great interest to many Democrats, is whether she will craft her own policy on Israel....

Harris — still somewhat embryonic....

Except those wrecking and hoarding workers who want reasonable wages and affordable housing! Nothing we can do for them, they need a good dose of competition for jobs and housing so that they can learn their place, and be our sin eaters, the ones who pay the price for our decades of overspending by tightening their belts, and lowering their expectations.

These illegals we are flooding the country with don't ask questions of their employers, and are happy with whatever housing they can find! That's the way our workers should be.

She will govern like a far leftist liberal that uses the Constitution to wipe her *ss. She was selected, not elected, anointed, and appointed. She is pro criminal, against the police and against law and order, she is for open borders, against Israel, is for wars that enhance the deep state, is for a bad/crap economy for the middle class, and will cut and run when our allies and citizens need us while leaving billions of dollars of equipment behind.

That is what her clueless supporters are ALL for. This is turning out to be another lefty "historic" election of a DIE hire that will check all the requisite intersectional boxes while the entire country turns into a Dem run third-world hell hole just like the cities that have been run by Dems for decades, are total sh*t holes but the residents keep voting for the same politicians and policies that turned thriving cities into landfills all because they "know" (R)s are hitler cause the media tells them so.

Democratic politicians ain't what they used to be, ever since the radical leftists began to co-opt the Party. Argentina tried that for the last several decades, and even under Milei, it continues. Biden was the only Democrat that Trump could beat and Trump is the only Republican that Harris can beat.

I assume he writer of that comment has a different definition of “ALL” than one would find in a dictionary. It apparently escapes that individual that the rise of Donald Trump is precisely because of the damage done to the middle class and even more to the working poor by “democratic norms.”

I find it hilarious that Marxists rave about “the workers,” but people who really work for a living don’t want the Marxists — they want Trump. The brutal truth for the Republican Party is this- the Democrats have a pretty solid lock on 51-52% of the two-party vote- this is the current position of a trend that started after the 1988 election. It has allowed the Democrats to create a lock on the Electoral College absent Trump. Trump is sui generis as a candidate- absent Trump on the ballot states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania aren't even competitive any longer.

Had Ron DeSantis won the nomination (or Nikki Haley) both would reclaim Arizona and Georgia into the GOP column but would have to fight to hang onto Ohio and would likely lose Iowa (Haley would have had to fight to win Florida). Additionally, both would lose those first three states I mentioned in the first paragraph by 5 or more percent. The GOP needs to stop pretending that Trump is the problem here- the problem is the demographic change of country the last 40 years- Trump is the last hope before the GOP becomes a rump party in permanent minority.

I think maybe each party has maybe 30 to 40% lock-in votes, even if they are bad candidates. So it's no surprise that a lot of people don't really care about specific proposals. One of the ways to win is to pick up the 20% to 40% who are undecided and not very political. These people vote for personalities and intangibles as much as any political issue.

Trump strongly captured the Republican base. So now he just has to get them voting in big numbers. And he can still pick up undecided people by attacking Kamala and showing them her bad side.

Harris skipped the whole primary process. I think it's an open question whether the Democrat base loves her or not. She has a weak attachment there, just based on criteria (Democrat) or identity politics (woman, black, Asian). Still, I would think she's got a certain number of locked in voters, regardless of how bad she appears.

I think there's a significant enthusiasm gap between the huge Trump rallies and the internet love that Kamala gets from the media. Trump is grass roots support while Harris is astroturf all the way.

Republicans made much of the early left-wing opinions and connections (both real and only rumored) of Obama and the Clintons, but it didn't make a dent in their vote share. My objection to mass absentee balloting is the impossibility of audit. Election security and transparency cannot be verified under the conditions set up - in some important cases, unconstitutionally under state constitutions - during COVID (and, as in Washington State, conditions that have pertained for years - but according to my progressive Seattle friends, have never caused any issues. Of course not, for them). I commend to everyone's attention, again, the Eastman article in the Gatestone Institute, "'The Most Secure Election in American History.'" (Single quotes inside double quotes from the original. I'll provide a link if asked - this comment format is driving me nuts.)

But as for the 2020 election - what say you, Robert Cook, about the Facebook and Twitter files? Any comments on those big fat thumbs on the scale, to say nothing of Google's and the ordinary media's massive in-kind contributions to the basement Biden campaign? Surely you've seen the polls indicating what percentage of voters say they would have changed their vote if they'd heard about the Laptop.

Here's how this plays out: Meat packers - dominated by four companies, making less than 5% margin, and actually lost money last year - get hit with a freeze. They, in turn, freeze their pricing for cattle, chickens, and pigs. The farmers and ranchers, with nobody to pass on the freeze to, cull the size of their herds - fewer head to feed, manage costs and hope to weather the storm. This is the most important part - it includes reducing the size of the breeding stock. Shortages quickly ensue. City folk hardest hit. They, of course, blame those awful corporations some more, with some bile thrown in against the growers. Eventually, the screaming gets loud enough that the "anti-gouging" measures are eased or lifted, but supply doesn't catch up anywhere near as quickly as it cratered. Why? You can butcher a hog a lot faster than you can raise one to sexual maturity - which they'll have to do in order to replenish the supply.

It's an absolutely moronic suggestion, worse by far than Trump's universal tarriff policy.

The proper term from the era for a "moderate Republican" is "RINO". Today, LLRs and GOPe would be acceptable terms as well. You know, the people that the left was saying that the "other" Republicans should be more like. The people that would mouth goals that the conservatives wanted to move towards, but once elected would take actions much further left. Obama fit right in with the people decidedly harder left.

And it's funny that you would denigrate the "Bush-Cheney" wars as a key voting point, yet still choose the War Monger(*) that continued those wars over the one guy in the last quarter century who did not start any new ones.

(*) No major US war has been started under a Republican president not named Bush.

Without Trump, Hillary would be in the final months of her 2nd term in office and Tim Kaine would be in Harris' spot running with a 90% chance of winning without cheating. All of the data from the last 4 elections show WI, MI, and PA lean at least 2-7% Democrat- the only time they haven't is when Trump ran in 2016 and 2020. Any other Republican would have to win the popular vote by at least 2% to even have a prayer of taking just one of those states.

I have written it til I am blue in the face- the 2012 election is the model you must use to assess the power of the two parties in the Presidential election- Obama easily won reelection with 7+% unemployment. Romney, despite all his faults, made it as close as a standard GOP candidate possibly could- ran better in red states than Trump but worse in blue ones and closely divided ones. A GOP candidate cannot win the Electoral College without at least WI- that is the minimum. That is how far behind the 8 ball the GOP is.

This is why Trump and the GOP are obsessed with cutting Social Security and Medicare.

So they can justify another round of giveaways to corporate donors."

"And I think it explains a lot about what we're seeing in the polls and in the behavior of the candidate (evading any substantive questioning)."

The only thing I've seen (on X, from Kamala herself) is a vague reference to "bringing prices down." No specifics about what prices, or how any of it will be accomplished. She, and Joe, tout the lowered cost of some medications, accomplished by price controls, and I suspect that will be her tactic.

She's being purposely vague and evasive.

It really creeps me out that many people want to be slaves, tossed by the whims of would be elites who always turn out to get rich fast, like Beiden.

In each situation, these elites always pass laws to give the poor something, but at the last minute say, “ oh we ran out of money so you don't get yours, but we got ours.”

Harris didn't catapult. That would imply that she became so popular that she won the primary. No. Biden was pushed out and Harris was picked. They stamped her ticket in some kind of virtual convention that nobody knew even happened until afterward. There was no catapulting.

Now why is she "embryonic" policy wise. And if she is, why was she the only possible choice to replace Biden?
This woman ran for President 4 years ago. She has been in the Biden Administration for 3 1/2. She is supposed to be ready to assume the office at a moments notice. She hasn't given any thought to policy? She can't tell us which existing policies she agrees with and which she doesn't? Seriously? She's currently in office. What does that say about her? She should be able to talk policy better than just about anyone.

"Some polices will be a little too far left for a few and some will be a little too centrist for others, but you can guarantee that she will uphold democratic norms and try and govern to make the lives of ALL Americans better,..."

If you're not willing to admit that there are policies on the right that should be adopted, then you're not governing for ALL Americans.

Plus, I like how this writer somehow sees a "guarantee" in a candidate that has repeatedly flip flopped and not really come out with a lot of concrete policies.

Whilst? The only friends of mine who use 'whilst' instead of 'while' live across the pond from the U.S. Are we sure this comment was made by a registered voter?

For sure wasn't written by someone who has been to one of Harris's rallies or who knows much about her past, if decency and decorum are major concerns.

Uphold democratic norms like throwing your opponent in jail, unequal treatment under the law and disregarding the right to a speedy trial.

Two questions from Victor Davis Hanson re: Kamquat Harris…

1. How can Kamala Harris merely promise us fixes to come in 2025 for inflation and an open border when she is still vice president for another six months? Why can’t she enact her proposed solutions to these problems (which she helped create) right now?

2. Would the media prefer to help her win but lose further credibility themselves by failing to ask why she has disowned her last three decades of leftist agendas, or to reclaim some of their reputations and thereby risk her losing?

"Whilst"? Is the commenter a Canadian or a Brit?

Now that was just mean, Rusty. Rich still has the hat he wore in early 2017 protest marches, so it will have to suffice.

I have a little, a very little, sympathy for Harris regarding policy announcements. She is ostensibly still a member of the Biden presidential administration (You in the back! No laughing!) and cannot really come out publicly opposing, in any significant way, any of their policies.

She also cannot hold a press conference to defend them as-is, because 1) they are terrible, 2) she did jack-all for them over the last 3.5 years, and 3) she's incapable of coping with even friendly press questioning. Accidents could happen, you know?

Would be nice to have a free press in the US. Sigh.

She's espousing the sentiments of the vast majority of voters for both parties in most elections. Nothing special here. The election will be decided by the minority of people who care to take the time to learn the issues, dissect the policies. And of course, those who vote at least twice.

Obama was elected twice by pretending to be a moderate, both racially and economically. Both were lies. Americans were eager to end racial tensions. They were lied to.

Things Kamala won't tell you tomorrow:

Price controls always lead to black markets, special pleading, graft, misallocation of resources, and supply contraction. Always.

Hammurabi, the King of Babylon almost 4000 years ago, implemented the first known government controls on food prices. They were enforceable by the death penalty. And they failed.

Every attempt since then has also failed, down to Venezuela and Argentina in the present day. There is no historical record of any nation that imposed price controls without suffering some combination of shortages, black markets, bribery, hoarding, misallocation of scarce resource, smuggling, special privileges for politicians and their cronies, hunger, social disorder, civil war, famine, and societal collapse.

Put price controls on bread, you get cheap whiskey and no bread. Put price controls on grains, you get no whiskey, no bread, and fields plowed under or converted to uncontrolled crops.

When I hear a politician advocate for price controls, I know immediately that he is a fool and a menace who should not be allowed to control any entity of more complexity than a hotdog cart. Don’t care how many degrees he has, how glib and flowery his speeches are, how appealing his other policies might be, or anything else. Such people are an existential threat to civilization.
