The modern democrat party is a cult.

The democrats are melting down.

They have traded Kennedy liberals for Haley warmongers and solidified their position as the party of oligarchs.

They do not have very many real legal voters left.

The funny thing is that Senior wouldn't recognize the Democrat Party today. He might even be a Republican.

Inspired by Dixcus's silly criticism of this moment in the overnight thread, and further empowered by the Kennedy overreaction (as Podhoretz notes) to one of their own pushing back on the authoritarianism of the fascist left Democrat party leaders, and in agreement with Jill Stein (who sees as clearly as JP because they were both "of the left") here is a feast for your eyes, ears and hearts: Kennedy's epic welcome by Trump crowd in AZ.

I've no idea where you reside, Achilles. Here in Los Angeles, there are gazillions of legal Democrat voters. They are about to send serial fabulist Adam Schiff to the Senate, and they keep electing corrupt morons to just about everything. We have a news monoculture, and workplaces, libraries, churches, volunteer groups, and just about every other institution is pervaded by a presumed consensus that progressive positions are obviously true.

Some people escape. Most can't.

Dr. Jill Stein🌻
@DrJillStein
We may disagree with RFK Jr. about many things, but he’s right about how the Democratic Party uses lawfare and dirty tricks to suppress democratic competition and voter choice.

The Dems preach about “saving democracy”, but in reality they’re working overtime to stamp it out.

In CO - which is already blue - the illegally placed "open primary's" on the ballot. So democrats can meddle in everyone's election.
Soon - the left's "rank choice voting" will smother democracy.
Next - Illegals voting - and all of the Chicago-style mob-vote cheating.
Merchan smiles.

Sure, there are about 55-60 million legal voters who will actually vote for Kamala. Trump is going to clear 80 million by a lot.

Trump beat Biden 75-60 million on election day. Stop pretending the democrats are a party without voter fraud.

The idea that this has sullied the good name of the Kennedys is ridiculous. That ship sailed a long time ago.

The scandals involving the behavior of Bobby and Ethel kid’s would fill volumes. Actions include paralyzing girls and schtoopong baby sitters. Hell, the author of the statement is best known cuckholding Andrew Cuomo.

There is a reason that Jackie tried to keep her kids away from that brood.

The Kennedys have established a very lucrative family brand that brings seats on various boards, access to useful political levers, and, of course, a very comfortable lifestyle. By appealing to the commoners, rather than to American royals, RFKjr threatens the brand, and that is not acceptable at all.

I don't think this is any different than some Trump family members speaking out against him, one of the nieces I think it was. People with famous last names think what they have to say matters and it hardly ever does. It just shows typical family dysfunction - and who doesn't know what that's like?- and is just cringey.

I agree with Dogma and Pony. I deplore the Manichean impulse of so many "new" Republicans, however. They seem to think foreign policy as simply a choice between isolationism and world policeman when the truth is that our response to each foreign policy issue must be informed by moral principles, prudence, realism, and pragmatism. We can neither be timid nor reckless. We must recognize both our responsibilities and our limitations.

RFK's running mate, Nicole Shanahan, was on Adam Carolla's podcast this week. Very interesting discussion of Harris and today's Democratic Party machine. (AI-generated transcript available through Apple's podcast app and presumably others.)

Let's list the repellent Kennedy spectacles of the last 60 years. Maybe rank them somehow. I like Bobby, but he's involved in some of them.

"Repellant," "creepy." Podhoretz does have a way with words. Remember this one, "Trump is an unworthy vessel chosen by God to save us from the evil on the left."

JK Brown said...

It's not that Teddy drove off a bridge. It's that he had someone with him and left her to die.

Similarly, Democrats want drive wildly with the American people in the car and we know, not only that they will crash, but when they do, they'll save themselves and leave the rest of us to die.

Ann Althouse said...

So you're saying Podhoretz's joke would have been better if it were something like... "the kind of false aristocratic creepiness that makes me want to, you know, swim away from a sinking car with a lovely young drunk woman inside and never look back"?

The Kennedys are an easy target. Their disavowals of RFK jnr are weird, but OTOH if they didn't throw him under the bus, other leftists would start attacking them and calling them "wreckers" and secret "Counter-Revolutionaires". Its how the left maintains their party discipline. Too many missteps and you're out.

And if I was J-Pod I'd be hesitant to call others "Creepy" and "Repellent". Pot meet kettle.

The Kennedy family publicly disavowing their relative like this says far more about their lack of character than it does RFK's. In my opinion, their denunciation of RFK is a huge plus in his favor.

Maybe you should be thinking about WHY a life-long Democrat not only abandoned your party, but actually endorsed the opposition.

Some self-reflection would go a long ways.

I listen to the Commentary podcast every day. It's amazing that they can put out so many episodes. Great, interesting content (though I don't think Pod likes calling it content), IMHO.

Still, this tweet is absurd. Pod and such can trash Kennedy folks for sixty years, but he wants to drive off a bridge when Kennedy folks disagree w/ each other.

BTW didn't the Trump loving Kennedy make claims about how dead Kennedy folks (not the ones that came up withhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlwY6Is7Y4o ) would not like the current Ds? Claiming to speak for your dead relatives seems more obnoxious than disagreeing with your living relative that seems quite nutty.

What Pod is saying here is that he finally found a Kennedy that is trying to hurt Ds, which Pod likes. But the other Kennedy folks are being mean to him.

So funny! And it is at least a bit sad. Or "SAD !" as DJT would state it. Still I love the Commentary podcast. And GLoP.
