"Kamala is throwing a party. She doesn't believe in anything. Well, she's flip-flopped. It's not flip-flop."

"She doesn't believe... She wasn't for it before she was against.... It's nothing. It has no foundation in reality. None of it matters. The Democrats are living in a post-reality world of parties. People are twerking. People are singing. There's Yas queening. It it has nothing to do with anything.... You can't touch it it's The Sphere...."

Says Tim Dillon, a third of the way into his podcast that began with a description of his visit to The Sphere in Las Vegas.

"Do you see? The people come in. They herd them in. Come in, fatty, sit in your seat and look: It's pretty colors. It's things that are flying by a mile a minute.... Yes,  play this, play this.... [Plays clip of women twerking at a Harris rally]... That's right, this is the campaign. These are the policies.... This is what you're going to get. These are the policies. This is what you're voting for... and by the way this is brilliant.... If Kamala Harris did not exist, billionaires would have to invent her.... She is hollow in in the best way...."

Dillon takes the position that the candidate that throws the best party will win, and he weaves that into a critique of the inane Sphere and the awful Darren Aronofsky movie — "Postcard from Earth" — he paid $300 to see there.

Dillon's comic rant merged with my own thinking on the subject — about why Kamala Harris avoids any substantive interactions with anyone. The lack of substance is her substance, and it is exactly what will work. America wants a show about nothing — to use the old "Seinfeld" phrase. Or... as I've said a few times around here: Better than nothing is a high standard.

Nothing is a good bet. Stick to nothing. Trump has a lot of baggage. Kamala is unburdened by what has been.

People think they're attacking her when they put up a montage like that, but it is a testament to genius.

The Obama team is working that 2008 magic. But that magic wouldn't even work for 2016 Obama, and Kamala Harris is- to put it politely, not smart. Less politely, she's a barren Jez who's currently below Madonna on the "aging gracefully" axis. Imagine a 60 year old trying to be brat!

Harris herself has no particular beliefs or principles. Is she a law and order prosecutor who tosses potheads into jail? Is she a social justice politician who believes police are too zealous? Neither -- she just goes with whatever she thinks the flow is. She's not a communist, but if everyone around her was, hey, she would be too. But that just means her staff are what will determine the direction of her administration. And unlike Biden, who in his periods of lucidity generally retains enough wherewithall to push back on the loonier stuff his staff has tried to pull -- in his first year, while they still let him out occasionally, he sometimes pooh-poohed his administration's barmier activities as "fake news," e.g. the enormous payouts to illegal immigrants -- Harris has no such grounding. So she'll be a lot further to the loony left, if she gets in office.

Yeah, with the US about to enter full scale war with Iran, Russia resurgent in Ukraine, and bread prices spiking, President Sperm Dumpster is less of a selling point than one would think. I don't actually think the votes matter, but if even Zuckerberg is betraying the oligarch compact they can't be very confident.

Kamala is an affront to literally everything America has built up and created in its existence. Nothing less.

She represents the hollowed out intellect, the stomped out fire that used to burn in the bellies of Americans, to move, to produce, to make great things. Now we celebrate getting free things. We celebrate her nothingness. Her vapidity. With twerking dancers and urban 'poets' rhyming awful phrases as they jump around her on stage.

I'm sure the world looks on with wonder at who's driving the globe these days, if not the US? It's a good question. Apparently it's up for grabs. But we won't be involved with the choice. We're too busy dancing, celebrating that Kamala has no questions to answer, nothing to do but show up, and offer up banal phrases that leave people scrunching up their faces trying to decipher it, then realizing nothing was said.

She's been appointed. Obama gave her the final blessing. And so, if Obama said 'Yes', the dancers must dance. The twerkers must twerk. The rappers must spout bad rhymes. And Democrats must obey and celebrate their wise choice, then pull the lever...er...hand over their mailed ballot to that nice person collecting them door to door.

There was a study done recently that shows our national debt, the real one, the one that includes everything that the US government owes, not just in treasuries, but pensions, etc, etc, amounts to the summed up GDP of the United States, each year added on to the previous, from our founding until today.

Biden tried to prevent a wider war in the Middle East by trying to force Israel to negotiate, so Israel simply killed the head negotiator, and Iran can simply cut off the Strait of Hormuz, you should look at it on a map, almost all of the oil from the ME comes through it, and we can't even stop the Houthis from cutting off the Red Sea. So when Israel, and Lindsay Graham, and BTW, Joe Biden (who wanted the war *after* being safely re-elected) get their war, wait til you see gas prices.

And right now nothing is stopping Russia from arming Iran with the prerequisites to sink our carriers, so WW3 is now on the table, because the blow to our prestige of having a carrier sunk will be more than we can accept. But they won't have to sink any carriers, they will simply kick the last decrepit support holding up our economy, and it will collapse of our own doing.

Oh, and we are slipping into a recession right now, and even though the media will lie about it, I am not sure that they can make it stick after lying about inflation for so long. And if the Fed cuts interest rates due to the recession, it's "Katy bar the door!" on the inflation front.

So bring on President Harris, we deserve her.

The revolution is all that matters to her. That is what she means by unburdening. She thinks everything should be remade to some new way of doing things. She means everything. As the year 2024 began, America was at a turning point. The Democrat Presidential Primary, the process by which the strongest, the most clever leftwing candidate is selected… a process which, though imperfect, had once favored the politician with the strongest connection to voters, now went in a different direction.

Most political pundits of the day had predicted a campaign that would mirror the campaign of 2020… where the kingmakers would do their best to hide or, at worst, provide cover for their favored demented grifter. But as the year went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. An unprecedented dumbing down of every Democrat demographic. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd save for the Democrat abortion fanatics, and inner-city gunslinger brigades, it began to simply reward those who produced the most gawdawful, X-rated, unfit for family viewing spectacles the wet ass pussy nation had ever been subjected to.

She's trying the Obama 2008 strategy -- people can project whatever they like onto her. It won't work for people who are politically engaged, like most commenters here left or right. But the median voter probably doesn't recall the positions she took in 2019 (that her campaign is now repudiating with minimal skepticism or pushback from media), and probably doesn't have much recollection of her as VP because (a) she's been practically invisible in that role and (b) the media have enthusiastically supported her effort to disclaim any role or responsibility in the handful of issues the administration gave her (e.g. illegal immigration). So she's trying, with some success, to shed any responsibility for the comprehensive failure of the Biden administration. To be nothing more than what she is on paper, i.e. younger than Biden or Trump, female, Black but not too Black (like Obama), ex-prosecutor, seems friendly enough.

Would a Harris administration be Biden II? Eh, probably, just more left wing. Has that case been made in a way that will penetrate to the median "gettable" voter in the election? Not yet, I think, and the media are actively running interference to prevent that message from sinking in.

Example: Russia invades Ukraine in 2014? Democraticals on this very blog claim it was because private citizen Trump somehow gave them a "green light" in 2014!

The first large wave of Kamala's commercials, quick hitters with her faux "serious & earnest face", would have you believe she just got here and can't believe the mess she has encountered!

The first half of that idea may be true, but the second is doubtful. Maybe a couple years ago. Maybe even one year ago. But you can only run on nothing, or "party," for so long. Actual economic life -- as in business and jobs -- has been slowing and the pace of that slowing, if you will, seems to be picking up, as data this week showed. When Warren Buffett sells half his biggest stockholding, and it is Apple, he and his staff have made a loud statement.

I do think Kamala is a pretty good representative of mindless leftism. So her results will give a good reading on the American public and their patience with wacko. (Assuming the choice is between Harris and Trump.)

A couple of structural points related to using the 2008, 2016, and 2020 elections as references for what Harris might or might not be able to do.

There has been only one period in the last 100 years where two men of the same party combined for three terms in the White House without the ascension of the VP to the Oval Office first - RR and GWHB, 1980-1992. Clinton couldn't do it for Gore in 2000, Bush couldn't do it for McCain in 2008, and Obama couldn't do it for Hillary in 2016.

2020 was only the fourth time in all US Presidental elections that the party winning the White House lost seats in the House, and it was the second biggest loss of House seats behind the losses in 1960 when JFK was elected.

The Harris VP pick may be illuminating. There are Dems who want to run for President in 2028 but can’t do that if Harris wins. None of those people will attach themselves to her if they foresee a train wreck. If the choice is someone like bland lightweight Tim Walz (who has no political future outside of this happenstance long shot), who would exist only to fill space, then that may show the true strength of the campaign.

Kamala supports lawfare against her opponents, and schumer's war on the SCOTUS. The J6 prosecutions. Throwing abortion protesters in jail for 5 years. She doesn't believe in free speech anymore than Biden does. She's support an "election reform" bill which will make it impossible for the R's to ever gain back control of the Federal Government.

But does anyone care anymore? The American Boobwazee think everythings Jake as long as they personally are doing OK RIGHT NOW. WHen we go off the cliff, they'll change their mind, but not till then.

It won't work. Kamala is part the Biden regime. We are in the eary years of ww3 because if their foreign policy mismanagement. People would rather go back to the 4 years of peace and prosperity under trump to chaos and worldwide instability, inflation of the Biden regime.

If Kamala Harris did not exist, billionaires would have to invent her.

I think the 2024 model Kamala IS an invention of the billionaires. It supplants the 2020 model, which is not fit for the purpose.

Kamala is an empty suit. Her supporters are empty heads. They are perfect together and they might win.

Trump needs to stop being cute and hammer the issues.

Hombre: "Trump needs to stop being cute and hammer the issues."

Trump spent 30 minutes in Atlanta "hammer(ing) the issues".

But you're right. It wasnt 31, so "fail" I guess.

That didn't take long.

“ Ann - This caught my eye, "It's a workable approach. It has worked before, and it will work again, and we've been pretty empty ourselves for a long time." Ourselves...is that a breach of cruel neutrality? Can you elaborate on the "ourselves"?”

I meant the whole electorate.

It was especially cruel neutrality.

Thanks for giving me the chance to make that clear.

Sigh...that is true, and that is what is worrisome.

Nobody ever won an election by questioning the intelligence of voters. That's how losers talk.

Obama and the Democrats are trying that old 2008 trick of making Harris a "composite character", an empty shell upon whom people can project their hopes and dreams. This will work, unless Trump and the Republicans can coax her out to actually campaign like a normal candidate, upon which people will realize what a fraud she is. If the Donks are smart, they won't let her interact with anyone until November. Fortunately, that will be impossible.

These cycles happen. It seems to be human nature that prosperous people eventually get silly and reckless, and eventually really bad things happen.

Yeats captured this idea, after WWI:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

In our day, the passionate intensity is flamed by the media, in order to generate revenue. The passionate intensity is flamed by candidates and parties to get votes. It is also a decision - a choice - by people of the electorate, who are driven to excel above their neighbors and feel superior, by diminishing others as "the villainous scum in the other party."

Or put differently, it isn't the policies what's done us in. It is the contention born of pride and enmity that has taken root and is fostered in the hearts of the electorate.

We apparently don't love the law, so we are destined to suffer without law.

I am confident that a federation of strong principled people will stand up and lead out in a better way, but it might not happen - it might be that nobody listens - until a lot of needless suffering happens to get us off our present silliness.

So democrats win by making each campaign rally the Jerry Springer show. Oprah shows the way.

I was just talking to my older brother about politics. That's what I said about Kamala Harris that she's done a really good job of doing nothing and saying nothing since the announcement. Yeah she is just pure ambition there is no there there. Tim Dillons right if she can stick to this she can win

Kamala Harris is "Chauncey Gardener." People said that about Biden too, in reference to the empty image of the "kindly," "good" man that Biden created for himself, but Kamala Harris, like Jerzy Kosinski's fictional character, actually does rise in the world while speaking simplistic nonsense.

So is Harris going to be a blank slate that people can project their fantasies onto, as Obama was? It's going to be harder now because she's not an unknown. People actually are familiar with her, and she has a record. It's hard to think seriously that she'll be anything more than what she's shown herself to be. But the Trump era is unprecedented. Half the country would vote for a dead dog if it ran against Trump, so there's little doubt that tens of millions will be able to talk themselves into admiring and worshipping Kamala Harris.

I thought the WSJ writer who followed Kamala down the "Brat" (some Brit electro music album) rathole put it well:

"I’m convinced that Candidate Harris has now locked up the young, insecure, overeducated and underemployed who doom scroll all day vote."

If what you assert is true, then we can expect an absolute, relentless deluge of polls telling us how popular Kamala is. There will be high satisfaction numbers attributed to her, from now until November.

The polls have been practicing their ability to completely spin the questions to bring the data that they can scrub into the answer they've been paid to produce. Get ready for Daily Poll Tracking with incredibly high visibility, any time, all the time !

The electorate that exists today is pretty much the same one that gave us 8 years of Obama. Trump's brief reign may have just been an aberration, a slight clog in the drain, as we continue down into it.

Imagine this place after 4 years of Biden and 8 of Harris.

...testament to genius

Sorry, have to disagree on that. It's beyond inane, and the hand gestures make it doubly so. Especially when she's holding a mike and has to try and do it one-handed. She looks like she's having a convulsion.

But the very worst part is the smugness with which she delivers it, as though she's just imparted the wisdom of the ages.

Let Kamala be Kamala. It's cool.
The same people who were running the Biden presidency for 3 or 4 years will just continue. They're experienced. Kamala will be told to SD & SU.
