"In his mind, Harris replacing Biden, which of course Democrats thought was overdue and necessary, is a kind of pre stealing of the election."

Said Michael Barbaro, in the new episode of the NYT "Daily" podcast, "Inside The Worst Three Week’s Of Trump’s Campaign."

Jonathan Swan, who's been covering the Trump campaign for the Times, says:
"Exactly. And it's bewildering for Trump because the race that he thought he had no longer exists. He's facing someone who's 20 years younger who doesn't have trouble completing sentences, who actually has energized Democrats, who's drawing big crowds, who's moving up in the polls. And all of these factors are making him extremely frustrated, less than a hundred days out from the election. And you can see this projection in his public statements and Truth Social comments. He's been like, look, like, a sort of this exercise in wishful thinking on Truth Social, where he's saying, I'm hearing Biden's really angry and wants to get, you know, regrets dropping out. And maybe he gets back in, you know, and it's sort of like... I know that's what you want, but that, that's not really what's happening. And so you're seeing this sort of Trump kind of publicly emoting for poor Joe Biden and how mistreated he was, but really it's just a projection. It's the race Trump wants again. Right. And he can't have it. And he's still sort of pining for that race that no longer exists."

PR Fluff. Mind reading. This imputation of some emotional response in Trump that the writer can’t know is flat out lying. It’s become the common DNC tactic. And, yes, the Politburo back room nomination strategy of the DNC is outright, blatant election rigging. So, they’re mocking Trump in advance for the emotional response they’re hoping to engender.

Trump is facing a candidate "who doesn't have trouble completing sentences, who actually has energized Democrats, who's drawing big crowds?" LOL we need proof of these assertions.

Has she solved her cackle-as-filler problem in "completing sentences" yet? Other than campaign surrogates and activists with bylines has she "actually energized Democrats" and if so what is the proof? She's still far behind in independents, where the race will be won.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

It would be refreshing to see Swan and other “reporters” actually educate the public on the records of both candidates and what their policies and priorities are.

Narrative promotion requires a lot of words. This is some more of that. Makes perfect sense, right? It does if you have a Masters degree or above. With Democratic control of all the party organs, we will be inundated with this until the election takes place. Only then will we know the results.

Or will we? We're getting better at disbelieving our lying eyes. It's how the masses coped their way through Soviet rule, and it's how we will live in the future if the narrative is successful once more. The proles have insufficient education to swallow the lie, but they aren't in control. They can be put down like the ones in Britain, if necessary.

Or Trump may prevail. Stay tuned. Keep believing it matters. You'll be told it doesn't.

I am puzzled by the complaint that Democrats haven't been democratic in choosing their candidate. And Trump's accusations that the Democrats have done something unConstitutional in dumping Biden in favor of the VP. Please show me where it says the process for nominating a candidate must follow specific rules. As far as I know, the Dems can choose anyone they want, even if the way they do it means they can't get said candidate onto the final ballot of one state or another.

Masterstroke in political strategy considering where dems were last month. Trump and JD Vance can’t get out of the blocks and don’t have the skillset to go beyond their base.

I also enjoyed hearing that Trump was on record as calling Walz to tell him he approved of the handling of the BLM riots. I can also well understand that Trump is floundering just now. The battleground has changed with a focus on the future rather than self -- preoccupied whining about perceived past injustice. The next few weeks are going to be interesting and many of us are hoping for firm generational change in US leadership.

Multiple stories about how Trump is in deep depression due to the recent coup.

3 possibilities:
1. It's true- for some unfathomable reason, T. was absolutely convinced that the Dems would keep Joe as their candidate, and that he would be an easy victor over the desiccated husk.
2. It's false- total gaslighting by Dem operatives in the media who know it's false but justify lying because of course T. is as existential threat to our Democracy.
3. It's false, but because T. is less voluble than previously due to being almost assassinated, they are interpreting his recent demeanor as depression rather than reflection.

Of course, this is a situation in which those who know are not talking, and those who talk, do not know.

Trump may very well be at the peak of his powers and the fixating on the past and lashing out at people on his own side and burbling away about Biden and how he's probably going to get back in the race any day now, those may all be signs of his vigor. Or, alternatively, those are indications that this 78 year old man is on the same downward slide as his former opponent. Biden was 78 years old when he was elected President.

@Leland, the process of nominating a candidate often used to involve backroom deals and other "non-democratic" methods. The process is up to the parties, of course. Yes, the current and recent Democratic Party nominating processes have been full of crapola like super-delegates and bounce-Bernie maneuvers, but so what? At the end of the day, the Party is putting up its candidate and Americans get to vote on the choices on their ballot. The problem, to me, is the cheating in the election, not the nomination process. "In his mind, Harris replacing Biden, which of course Democrats thought was overdue and necessary, is a kind of pre stealing of the election."

Of course, this is completely untrue. Democrats spent all of the years of 2019- 2024, right up to June 27 telling us and the world that Joe Biden was as sharp as a tack, that he was a walking encyclopedia of foreign policy knowledge, that his minor gaffs and visible stumbles, glazed looks were simply him being tired. In fact, we were told that this is the best version of Joe Biden ever. Even as he would fall asleep in a public meeting with another foreign leader- in front of our eyes. Yes, surely Joe was tired, but not incapable!

And, for the years 2020-2024, right up to June 27, 2024, Kamala Harris was an acknowledged dingbat. A Peter Principle graduate who had blown the ceiling off of that noted principle and went well past her peak competency level. We were told she was an awful person to be around, that her staff had a 70% turnover rate, and that no one in the Biden White House wanted her in charge of anything. And so, from the years 2020-June 27, 2024, even the media were involved in a whisper campaign for Joe to replace Kamala if he wanted any chance to win the election.

Now we're told Democrats had this planned out all along. Who'd a thunk it? Who would have believed that Obama/Pelosi/Schumer and the people who send them money had a plan in reserve and used June 27 to launch it? Gosh, if they can only keep Kamala from speaking, they can win this thing.

Trump has always had a signal:noise issue. In the instances when I've heard him speak recently, I haven't noticed that it's any different from the past - in a rally, he does his stand-up schtick; in an interview he's more focused but always gets in some one-line cuts on the opponent of the day, whether it's a political opponent or the media. And further, in interviews I've heard in part recently, he's as good as he ever was at answering the question he wants to answer rather than the one that was asked - better than a lot of career politicians, which surprises me.

I think you are correct that the "Democrat" party does not have to include any actual democracy in its nomination process but I hope the Trump FTC looks into whether it should be allowed to use the descriptive term "Democrat."

Let me explain why the process was not "democratic."

1. The Democrat party told voters they MUST vote for one candidate that was deeply unpopular for whom the electorate was concerned about his stamina.

2. The Democratic primary voters complained "Hey we don't want to vote for the 81-year old, we would like to see some other candidates."

3. The Party's Top Men replied: "Fuck off! If you don't like it, vote 'uncomitted.' We don't care. Won't make any difference, loser."

4. Then after the 81-year wins all the primaries they force him out of the election.

5. This was was after telling us it was procedurally impossible to switch candidates. But, now they are apparently making up a new process out of thin air but nobody know what that process is other than "something something delegates."

6. So, the now disenfranchised---yes the Democrats just disenfranchised million and millions of their own voters---complained "so now do we finally get to have some you know actual 'vote' on the nominee. Can't the process you are making up right now include us and not just the Top Men."

7. The Top Men tell the voters: "Oh no no no, you sweet stupid child it's 'too late' now, you have to vote for the dirty corrupt prosecutor."

8. "But we hate her too!"

9. "Tough shit! Pick your poison: dirty corrupt prosecutor or TRUMP?"

The Dems 2024: We have to end democracy before Trump does.

Nominating Trump was the ONLY WAY to address and correct the 2020 voter fraud. Not time to give up and abandon ship. MAGA voters aren't like Tim Walz.

Can you imagine having been one of those 18 or 19 year olds or their families and have to watch video of Stolen Valor / Blue Falcon Walz just brazenly lie about having deployed with those troops?

If the election was "stolen" why did Trump dismiss his suit? Either way: (1) he's a fucking liar and you are in a cult, OR (2) he is a dumbass that voluntarily dismissed a meritorious suit that could have fixed our US election system and you are in a cult. Pick your poison. He is unelectable.

Keep repeating the lie that he lost all the lawsuits for lack of "standing." Some lawsuits were dismissed on procedural grounds but not all of them. Those that passed procedural muster Trump dismissed dummies. People don't dismiss cases that have merit.

Talk is cheap. Trump was not willing to put his money where is mouth is. That's pretty much all I need to know about whether he actually believes the B.S. he has you believing. He does not. But you do and that's what matters.

Spare me the patronizing "mind reading." This is a time when any candidate would be rethinking the strategy. I certainly hope Trump is. The current situation is quite unprecedented and hard enough for those of us who aren't involved to get a handle on. It's that much harder for those actually involved to figure out the next steps.

So yesterday, I learned the expression "Blue Falcon" and what it means, and everybody is using it today. I learned today what it really means. I don't know which is more unsettling: Kamala Harris actually coming out and saying "we believe in the collective," or her running with somebody who let his own collective down in such a big way.

And so you're seeing this sort of Trump kind of publicly emoting for poor Joe Biden and how mistreated he was, but really it's just a projection

Biden feels like a coward. A chicken s..t. Pushed around by a bunch of back stabbing friends.
Trump is trolling Joe, playing to Joey's anger. Badass, Corn Popper Biden. Trump encouraging Joe to fight back, like the "tough guy" he is.
If Joey lost the election, at least he could be proud of putting up a good fight, not feeling ashamed for quitting, as he does now.
Biden can see the loss of respect in Dr. Jill's eyes, as well as in the demeanor of everybody he is in contact with.
SAD!

It's actually not. It's really easy to prove. If it actually happened. Which it did.

1. There is a voter roll that list who voted and who did not.
2. You look through the voter rolls and see who allegedly voted.
3. You find people who allegedly voted but are are fictional, or who are dead, or who are willing to testify under oath that they (in fact) did not vote.
4. You had four years to do any or all of this and if you haven't yet: just shut the fuck up already. Just stop.

The left is really bad at thinking about how Trump thinks and talks. They seem to project two mutually exclusive characteristics on him:

1. Cunning, 4-dimensional-chess evil Hitler
2. Extreme stupidity

And they just switch back and forth depending on what makes them feel better in the moment. Lately they have been more on #2

I'm thinking about this because it has become common "knowledge" among my coworkers/acquaintances over the past few weeks that Trump

1. Does not know what "asylum" means, thinks that "asylum seekers" must be from insane asylums, has stated this publicly a dozen times, and no one on is staff has the courage to correct him
2. Thinks Hannibal Lecter is real

They think this because someone on Twitter suggested it once, and they feel a frisson of smug condescension every time they get to say "Hur hur, Trump dumb". I can feel a few of my brain cells committing suicide every time I suffer through listening to this while remaining politely silent and just trying to eat lunch/go back to work

To be fair to this guy, he's not quite projecting extreme stupidity, just a sad public temper tantrum with a dash of incompetence. I wonder what he would say if someone asked him "What if you had to argue that Trump is clever, intentional, and not evil?"

If he knew it would be Harris then, when the whole apparat was still circling the wagons around Biden, why would he be surprised now?

It's not like Biden won a competitive primary. He was anointed by insiders as the one available choice on our primary ballot ... this GOP handwringing over the 'votes' Joe got in a non-competitive primary suggests desperation and reminds people how lazy your arguments are.

The Democrat party ran everyone else out of the primary, kicked RFK out, and gave democrat voters no real choice except Joe Biden...

So pointing out democrats completely subverted their weak and manipulated primary by deposing Joe and installing Kamala Harris who has never received a single primary delegate is making a lazy argument...
