"I want to send the right symbolic gesture that the city is open to everyone and there’s no room for hate. And if there is a float or a person in the parade that is promoting hate, they should not."

Said NYC Mayor Eric Adams, quoted in "Float Planned for N.Y.C. India Day Parade Is Condemned as Anti-Muslim/The float, slated for inclusion in Sunday’s parade, depicts a Hindu temple in India that was built on the site of a mosque torn down by religious extremists" (NYT).
When asked at a news conference on Tuesday if he was sufficiently attuned to the concerns of Muslim New Yorkers.... “I’m not going to be judged by man,” the mayor said. “God judges me.”...

The inclusion of the float has been advertised in fliers on and offline by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, an offshoot of India’s Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a right-wing nationalist organization. An image posted online by the group showed a sketch of the float, surrounded by people dancing and celebrating. The organization did not respond to a request for comment.....

Speaking of Indians, what is NYC built on?

Here’s the thing. There’s no such thing as a “city that’s open to everyone and there’s no room for hate”. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I'll consider the Muslim complaints about this when they return the Hagia Sophia to the Orthodox Church, and stop expecting Jews not to pray at the Temple Mount..

From the article...
"The float, slated for inclusion in Sunday’s parade, depicts a Hindu temple in India that was built on the site of a mosque torn down by religious extremists"

And what was the mosque built on?

So now the "hate veto" is a thing. Praising the Christian God is hate. Saluting or displaying the American flag is hate. Now showing a temple to Vishnu is hate.

In my asshole opinion Muslims need to get with the American constitution and realize their feelings do not override other Americans' right to self expression under the first amendment. If they believe their faith is incompatible with living in a free country the answer is simple: go live somewhere else. And the mayor and every other politician pandering to the hatred of the death cult wing of Islam can go to hell, figuratively and literally.

I'm guessing THAT is NOT IMPORTANT??

The temple is built on the site of a mosque which was torn down. The mosque itself was built on the site of a yet older temple, which was torn down.

When Muslims ruled over that part of India, they had no problem tearing down a Hindu temple which honored the birth place of Ram. In fact, the mosque was named "Masjid-i-Janmasthan" ("the mosque of the birthplace"). Hard to say from this distance in time if the Muslims were trying to be syncretic or were dunking-on the subjugated population. After the destruction of the Mosque, which based on images I could find, was a shithole compared to the new temple, the courts ordered an excavation and found an underlying structure, typical of temples in that part of India. The court awarded the site to the Hindus and gave a larger parcel for Muslims to build a new Mosque.

But Muslims can build a Mosque on the site of the Temple in Jerusalem and that's perfectly OK. I think everyone, the British, America, the Irish, the entire EU, is afraid of Muslims. They're willing to throw down. Suicide bombers, Oct 7th, carry machete's in public...crazy bullshit, but they mean it.

It would be less dangerous to fuck with the 1969 Hell's Angels, or a dark alley full of bull-dykes.

Muslims have a doctrine that in effect says - “if we conquer it, it’s ours forever and tough luck if you disagree. That’s the reason they have gotten their feathers in a whirl over the float - they see it as fairly stolen property by the Hindu’s who rebuilt their original temple on the site.

Same as the Hagia Sophia that has been “repurposed” as a mosque (that cathedral brings chills to the self when you enter it). And who can forget the Dome of the Rock sitting on Temple Mount with its inscribed verses mocking Christians. But to be fair - all religions do the same when they conquer. Just Muslims resent it publicly.

Adams needs to ignore the complains and teach a “tolerance” lesson. ( fat chance - he’ll roll and cancel at the last moment with a “public safety”concern) .

Speaking generally about poor policy from people like Adams, I'm going to remind the community here that we were debating the "lack of affordable housing" last week, especially in areas run by Progressives. Today's news out of Venezuela provides even more context:

The Argentine Real Estate Chamber said at the end of 2023 that the supply of rental properties in Buenos Aires fell by 95 percent in the three years since the Rental Law was passed. Rent price controls like Kamala favors, like Adams favors. And now?

“Since Millei’s repeal of rent control laws took effect on December 29, the supply of rental housing in Buenos Aires has jumped by 195.23%, according to the Statistical Observatory of the Real Estate Market of the Real Estate College,” Newsweek said, along with a dramatic “drop in rental prices.”

Capitalism is always more fair to the largest number of people than socialism can be, because people are free to make sane decisions, not bound by stupid policies. OK. Back to the parade of hate.

When I visited Hagia Sophia, about 20 years ago, there was talk of making it a museum but that was before Erdogan went radical. They were taking down the panels with Koran quotes and finding the original Christian mosaics. The workers who put up those panels were Christian and protected the mosaics they were covering in hopes that one day it would again be a church.

Russians have the same doctrine. Commentators on Russian news are always talking about getting back every hectare that was ever ruled by Russia or the USSR at any point in history, not just Finland and Poland but Alaska. That's the moderates. The radicals want every hectare that Russian troops have ever occupied, even if it was never officially part of Russia or the USSR, including for instance Berlin.

It seems to be a self-reinforcing extremist religion. There's no 'central authority' to regulate things - the Imams give their own interpretations and if it draws people then all well and good and they'll go in the directions they want.

One thing, one direction you don't see is tolerance for others. The folks pushing that idea past 9/11 have refused to look at the reality of that religion. Can't say I blame 'em, who wants their worldview blown apart and have to reconstruct what you're thinking from scratch?

Islam respects one thing from the outside - and that's strength. Which we've been sorely lacking for the last 4 years...

Just recently listened to Jordan Peterson's podcast with "Tommy Robinson." The rules are different for Muslims. If you disagree, they will make sure that you understand that you are wrong.
The bizarre thing is that they are not at all shy about saying exactly what they think of non-Muslims and what they are planning to do about it. And "Liberals" think that "tolerance" means allowing them to get away with it.
