Here come the price controls!!! Yea!!!!!

Jaq said...

Sounds great. I approve. Just tell me where the money will come from.

RideSpaceMountain said...

You'll get newborns alright. You'll just get more newborns than what welfare already provides us with.

People aren't having children because there's no cash incentive. No amount of money is going to convince the people that ought to be having children to have them in this environment. It isn't about the money. Elon Musk is right.

Kate said...

Ew. Throwing money at a new mother is low on the list of helpful solutions, something Harris would know if she'd ever given birth. But the surrogate business would love it.

wendybar said...

How much credit is she going to give for abortions, which is what is driving the Progressive women to vote??

DanTheMan said...

It's a good thing that there is an infinite amount of money, otherwise this could be bad...

Gusty Winds said...

Kamala is going to propose the same shit Maduro did in Venezuela. White women with Master's degrees will cheer. They'll pretend the inflation is all evil price gauging. Not gov't spending a printing money. Just stupid.

The biggest price gauging scam going on in America today is the cost of college. These are they same idiots that will cheer Kamala's price cap proposals today.

We deserve to sink.

planetgeo said...

I forget. What do you call people who like to redistribute other peoples' money?

My suggestion to the opposition would be to guarantee "tax gouging controls" and a permanent cap on total taxes.

Gusty Winds said...

If you pay $6000.00 for a live birth, and abortions go down are the feminists still pissed off?

I worry with one or both candidates offering handouts, tax cuts, etc. and we, WE, have a 36 trillion dollar debt and still run nasty yearly federal deficits.
I wonder if/when the federal debt/deficit/interest on debt "shit hits the fan" in the next 4 years, which party would handle the situation better? I truly do not know. We can't tax cut our way out of it, and we must stop increasing fed spending and cut some stuff where we can. I worry. No one else seems to give a damn.

Gusty Winds said...

If you collect the $6K for the live birth, what is the required period of time you have to take care of the child?

Gusty Winds said...

Tax cuts are not a "handout"

Iman said...

Pouring money into the economy and price controls may poll well with some folks, but it’s a recipe for continuing inflation and accelerated decline.

Political Junkie said...

Oh - I think people are not having kids for various reasons. They are lack of financial security, less job security, increased speed of life, focus on maximizing one's immediate pleasures vs long run pleasures, avoiding LT liabilities.

Oh, I can find you a cat. I know people.

Political Junkie said...

gusty winds - I did not say they were. Tax cuts are different from handouts, which are incurring gov expenses to buy votes. Example - Forgiving college loan debt.

Wow. Populism is now in vogue. Or they just redefined populist to mean communist.

Fuck it. Let it all go to hell. White women. You win. I'm crying "UNCLE"!

It's $2000 to become a childless cat woman.

Birches said...

Wow, this makes me angry. Irrationally angry. At least JD Vance's "Make birth free" is using an existing structure and piggy backing off of that. Women on Medicaid already have a free birth; it helps the working class to have birth underwritten by insurance. But yeah, we're just going to hand out 6k. And it will never happen. She looks desperate.

Gusty Winds said...

From the WaPoo article: Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday unveiled an aggressively populist economic agenda...Democrats have become increasingly convinced that embracing populist economics is key to beating Trump

You have to become Trump, to beat Trump. Especially after you failed to kill him.

Just a note: You can only claim a tax credit if you have taxable income. The proposals are not equivalent.

Not to be crude but does this mean that some people could now get $6,000 for their anchor?

Don't forget the things she steals from Trump (no tax on tips and her Veep selection missing call from candidate), MLK ("fweedom"), etc.

So all the talk about being family friendly and encouraging women to have children is just lip service. When it comes to putting your money where your mouth is, then it makes some people “irrationally angry”? I guess you’d rather see tax cuts for the super rich. How much did Trump’s tax cuts for the rich cost? During Trump’s time in office, the national debt rose $ 7.8 trillion between his tax cuts for the rich and unlimited spending.

This is inefficient, well paid women won’t make the decision based on 6k, this is effective only in getting low income women to get quick cash. There should be an income limit, above which you get nothing, otherwise 70 percent of the money will not contribute to increased population.

And gay and trans people will be mad that they don’t get it too.

Inga said...

“As this debate unfolds, policymakers and the public should understand that the 2017 Trump tax law:

Was skewed to the rich. Households with incomes in the top 1 percent will receive an average tax cut of more than $60,000 in 2025, compared to an average tax cut of less than $500 for households in the bottom 60 percent, according to the Tax Policy Center (TPC).[1] As a share of after-tax income, tax cuts at the top — for both households in the top 1 percent and the top 5 percent — are more than triple the total value of the tax cuts received for people with incomes in the bottom 60 percent.[2]
Was expensive and eroded the U.S. revenue base. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated in 2018 that the 2017 law would cost $1.9 trillion over ten years,[3] and recent estimates show that making the law’s temporary individual income and estate tax cuts permanent would cost another roughly $400 billion a year beginning in 2027.[4] Together with the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts enacted under President Bush (most of which were made permanent in 2012), the law has severely eroded our country’s revenue base. Revenue as a share of GDP has fallen from about 19.5 percent in the years immediately preceding the Bush tax cuts to just 16.3 percent in the years immediately following the Trump tax cuts, with revenues expected to rise to an annual average of 16.9 percent of GDP in 2018-2026 (excluding pandemic years), according to CBO. This is simply not enough revenue given the nation’s investment needs and our commitments to Social Security and health coverage.
Failed to deliver promised economic benefits. Trump Administration officials claimed their centerpiece corporate tax rate cut would “very conservatively” lead to a $4,000 boost in household income.[5] New research shows that workers who earned less than about $114,000 on average in 2016 saw “no change in earnings” from the corporate tax rate cut, while top executive salaries increased sharply.[6] Similarly, rigorous research concluded that the tax law’s 20 percent pass-through deduction, which was skewed in favor of wealthy business owners, has largely failed to trickle down to workers in those companies who aren’t owners.[7] Like the Bush tax cuts before it,[8] the 2017 Trump tax cut was a trickle-down failure.“

We have a lot of kids. And a huge number of exemptions for our withholding so a small amount comes out each paycheck. But even with that, we don't get all of the child tax credit money. The real problem is that growing percentages of each post- millennial generation are more and more inclined to socialism. Every issue needs a State solution, and by that I mean a Command economy. You are commanded to buy an electric vehicle. Groceries too expensive? We will command the stores to sell at a certain price. Housing too expensive? The government will build housing, and when that falls short, the government will tell owners what they can rent and/or sell for.

Inga said...

Birches, so you think this $6,000 will only give incentive/monetary relief to low income women who you apparently don’t think should be reproducing? Talk about being an elitist. You don’t want these women to have abortions, or do you? You think a $6,000 credit wouldn’t help middle income families, or poor women? You might as well come out and say “I don’t want poor women and middle income women having babies because they aren’t worthy”

CBPP skews left.

"CBPP bills itself as nonpartisan, but a look at the center’s stance on issues indicates a left-of-center view. In 2011, the Daily Signal argued the group skewered statistics to benefit liberal talking points. While a chart from CBPP claimed the next decade’s deficits were the result of two recent tax cuts, the recession, bailouts, wars, and the economic stimulus, Daily Signal argued that CBPP’s “methodology fails statistics 101.”5"

Peachy said...

As a 501(c)3, CBPP is not required to reveal its donors, but reports reveal some of those who give to the organization. That includes a document leak in 2014 that showed the Democracy Alliance, which coordinates grants for nearly 100 progressive organizations, contributes to CBPP.20

Her speech was a litany of socialist nostrums that have been shown time and time and time again to not only not work, but to actively make things worse for everyone. Even liberal economists accept that price controls don't control prices and serve to reduce availability and productivity.

The last time the government paid women to have babies with no strings attached we wound up with out-of-control welfare spending, Dems destroyed black families, created massive inner-city youth gangs of men who helped black women have more babies for more cash, and led to what liberals blame on "white supremacy". What liberals blame on a non-existent boogeyman was clearly the result of Democrac social welfare policy starting with the Johnson administration.

But since you're just a cut-and-paste Dem toady, you will toe the party line and repeat what you are told to repeat. Like a good America-hating socialist.

The biggest price gouging scheme today in America is taxes.

In California, your gas taxes are not paying for road maintenance but getting syphoned off for anything the democrat legislature wants to do. Probably the same in other states. The money going to "solve" the homeless situation is being skimmed by expensive, price gouging organizations with very little of the money going to solve the problem. Check out the ratios of money spent to homeless heads served - it's ridiculous. How much are we paying for ineffective border control? And add to that the support spent on illegals that get through the sieve. Audits of the pentagon or Ukraine aid can't figure out what happens to millions if not billions of dollars. As the meme goes, since the Department of Education was formed, the average test scores have gone down across the board. Is the Depart of Ed price gouging us for an inferior product? And let's not forget the money pipeline from the government to NGOs to political parties (especially the democratic party). The amounts sent on NGOs has an automatic price gouge to allow the NGO to donate to their favored party.

You can tell that the government runs on price gouging because as soon as the government go involved in student loans, the college price gouging increased significantly with all sorts of "activity" deans and no additional increases teaching capacity.

Marcus Bressler said...

The "child care tax credit" is really not a "credit" against taxes paid, but one portion of it is just a handout.

Marcus Bressler said...

Hating the rich is Envy, which is a sin. Go to Hell, Inga. You write as a commie, wanting the government to seize more of someone's money just because they have more. I'm poor, but I believe tax cuts should be percentage-based and the SAME for all. The "rich" who pay taxes support most of us, especially for those who don't file or don't taxes at all. My deceased daughter was a waitress with two young children. Her income was low, and I am positive she did not declare all her tips as income. Yet every year she got a few thousand dollars "back", one year enough to buy her a used car that she desperately needed. Do you think my daughter actually had several thousand dollars withheld from her paycheck? Stop the welfare.

Political Junkie said...

Your reply proves my point.

Inga said...

Iphones aren’t groceries. Neither are movies or college fees. Last I heard her concern was food prices, medications, housing costs.

During a speech in the battleground state of North Carolina, Harris said that “building up the middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency” as she promoted her plan for a federal ban on price gouging by food producers and grocers. She also proposed $25,000 in down payment assistance for certain first-time homebuyers and tax incentives for builders of starter homes.

“Every day across our nation, families talk about their plans for the future, their ambitions, their aspirations for themselves, for their children. And they talk about how they’re going to be able to actually achieve them financially, because, look, the bills add up,” Harris said. “Food, rent, gas, back to school clothes, prescription medications. After all that, for many families, there’s not much left at the end of the month.”
