"But it’s... a different time. From school board meetings to board rooms, Americans... question whether affirmative action and diversity and inclusion programs are achieving what they’re supposed to."

"Add in widespread distrust of the political process, and it’s evident why many say they want to hear precisely how the next president will make their lives better. This may help explain why Black Americans are supporting Mr. Trump in rising, if still small, numbers.... When it comes to Ms. Harris, 'we can all see that you’re Black — everybody knows that,' said Bradley Thurman Jr., a 53-year-old self-described independent in Milwaukee. Mr. Thurman, who is Black, had not been enthusiastic about voting for President Biden. But, he said, Ms. Harris makes him 'a little bit more onboard' with Democrats. But Mr. Thurman, who co-owns a coffee shop called Coffee Makes You Black, added that he wanted to hear more detail about her ideas. 'I want to know what your policies are and what you’re bringing to the table and what you’re proposing,' he said. 'And, you know, how it’s going to affect me?' The desire to see Ms. Harris in a multidimensional way may reflect that the power of identity politics has diminished...."

At Yelp, Coffee Makes You Black gets 4 1/2 stars. I enjoyed scrolling through the 52 photographs of the place. Sample review: "The food is always on point. They recently started the r&b brunch and the dj was live. Even when the dj is not present the music is good-- like our kin is running the play list. Keeps the vibes right. The service is always kind. Just need more people to get plates out. I'll wait tho... the food &vibes are just that good. IMO."

It is absolutely incomprehensible to me that someone would vote for President based upon that person’s race, religion, gender or ethnic identity.

I also can’t even conceive of a person voting for Harris.

I missed how Trump was playing up racial divisions. (He has the most aggressive minority outreach I’ve seen of any Republican.) I have noticed how Democrats are trying to say he is playing up racial divisions.

Why bother talking about racial identity with someone who owns a business with a racist name without asking him about that?

"It's not that Democrats are stupid, it's just that they know so much that just isn't so." - Ronald Reagan

Notice how the media are trying to gaslight the idea that she's black, but she shouldn't talk about it because that gives Republicans the chance to pounce and seize on the fact that she's not black. Then blacks will find out she's not black. And they want blacks to be ignorant.

I would so much rather no one talked about any of that crap. What a waste of time.

I suppose it depends on what the meaning of "is" is...

Seems to me Trump isn't the one who keeps bringing this stuff up.

I realize my experiences are different than others, but I'm baffled by comments that Trump "plays up racial divisions". It's almost like the yardstick is: "If you aren't 'anti-racist', you're racist"

"make their lives better."
Free people should take that statist assumption as a microaggression.
How about "stop making lives worse". The included quote from the coffee shop owner says "how it’s going to affect me?", yet the author chose the statist perspective.

Question for America: Is it morally acceptable to identify people on the basis of their race?

People NEED To Realize.. That The ONLY THING THEY ARE is their racial makeup

My wife and children are black, so I think I can speak with some knowledge about this topic. DEI is favored among blacks who have dome well but know in their heart of hearts that they could not compete successfully without it. Truly qualified blacks are embarrassed by it. This is similar to what I saw years ago when I taught undergrads at the University of Michigan. They were far more elitist than the students I had recently taught at Harvard. It also seems clear that whites who favor DEI do not believe that blacks as a group are as capable as whites or Asians.

"Americans... question whether affirmative action and diversity and inclusion programs are achieving what they’re supposed to."

Americans question whether racial discirmination in the guise of AA or DEI is legal and fair. Whenever they had a chance to vote on it, in blue CA for example, they opposed it. They now realize that DEI is a virtue-signaling spoils game that is supposed to serve progressive elite interests at the expense of Asians and whites.

Kamala Harris is NOT black. Neither was her father. Produce the African in the family tree or quit fronting. She's like Ward Churchill or Rachel Dolezeal or Elizabeth Warren or Talcum X. Someone sold her on the grift and she ran off to Howard to negrify herself.

“Harris has the three phases of wine mom… I think of her as America's wine mom because b*tch seems like she's three deep by noon and she's got the three phases of wine mom… She's got happy drunk... Cackling, cackling, cackling.

Then there is trying to, drunk at work where you're trying to make sense but you don't.

And then there's: 'I'm being stern so you don't realize how plastered I am and I'm making a point.'"

Trump simply pointed out what should be obvious (and what the media is trying to cover-up), to wit, that Kamala touted her Indian heritage before she decided to tout her black heritage. Bottom line however, the fact that Kamala is a communist should transcend any discussion about race.

I can't.

If "black" is about skin color, jd Vance's wife is "blacker" than Harris.

If it is about being steeped in African-American heritage. Then she is only slightly "blacker" than Usha vance

They question whether affirmative action and (perhaps more importantly) diversity and inclusion programs are achievinng what they are supposed to.

Ah but what are they supposed to achieve? Greater harmony between identity groups aka "communities"?

No. They are not. They are meant to divide and destabilize. So that more people think the only solution is Revolution. Tear down society (because of *systemic* injustice and oppression) and replace it with Marxist Utopia.

serious questions..
how many Blacks are half Indian, and a quarter Irish, and a quarter Caribbean?
how many Blacks are married to a Rich white guy?
how many Blacks are married to a Rich JEWISH white guy?
how many Blacks are a "Momala"* to two Rich white JEWISH kids?

"Momala"* apparently means: Au Pair, or Amah, or Nanny, or somethin?

If only blacks had a similar history to Asians in starting little businesses. So many Asians arrived penniless as refugees and in a couple of years were running a business. The whole racism thing would have been gone a hundred years ago.

Rosalyn C. said...

In the US since 2010 about 20% of all marriages (including Jews) are interracial. Among those Jews who are not religious, and that would include Doug Emhoff, about 50% of marriages are with non-Jewish spouses.

Race and religion seem to be less important as time goes on. Kamala may not be Black, but she’s brown enough.

It’s almost funny that JD Vance, a Republican, is being portrayed as some kind of arch conservative and bigot and yet he’s married to a woman who is not White or Christian.

multidimensional? What does that even mean? The owner of the coffee shop only said that he wanted to see her positions on the issues. That's a pretty standard thing to want to know about a candidate.

"So when Trump wins, it'll be because it was racism, racism, racism......all the way down."

But if Trump loses because tribalism, racial politics and DEI prevail, that will have NOTHING to do with racism......nahhhh.

"You really need to tie childless cat ladies into this too, it's another winning talking point."

Isn't it true that most childless women are living under the shadow of bereavement or miscarriage and even child death? And in a country that cares so much about freedom from the government that it gives citizens the freedom to carry deadly weapons and the freedom to die of ill health because the government isn't going to interfere, isn't it no less of a freedom to be child-free by choice?

My hunch is that Vance's unthinking phrase was unwittingly about his own drug-addict mother, who he had to leave without a child in her home to go and live with other caregivers. He would have loved to have had a stepmother like Kamala, hence his pain.

Simply put, she is not descended from slaves. That is all that matters.
If your ancestor was not a slave, you are as African American as Elon Musk, but you are not Black black.

Kamamla will not lose any votes for that , because most AA's always vote for the Democrat, or against the Republican.

Grandma used to say the Republicans want to take away social Security. I was too young to know what SS was, or to know what Republican meant. She believed and always voted Dem out of fear.

People getting welfare and other subsidies are in a similar state of mind.

The race is based on fear. Who will make your life worse, Harris, or Trump?
