"A mechanical issue caused former president Donald Trump’s plane to be diverted Friday as he headed to Montana for a rally, according to airport staff at Billings Logan International Airport."

 WaPo reports.

Strange to see that on the same day I'm seeing "That Time Trump Nearly Died in a Helicopter Crash? Didn’t Happen. In a news conference, the former president recounted a brush with death alongside Willie Brown, the former San Francisco mayor. A few aspects of the story don’t hold up to scrutiny" (NYT).

Imagine all the things that "Didn't Happen."

I'm curious how the NYT established that something didn't happen:

It wasn’t the famous former San Francisco mayor on the helicopter flight at all. It was Gov. Jerry Brown, the former governor of California, who bears little resemblance to Willie Brown. There was also no emergency landing, and the helicopter’s passengers were never in any danger at all, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was also on the flight.... Mr. Brown, 90, said the whole story was false. He had never ridden in a helicopter with Mr. Trump, he said. He had never nearly perished in any helicopter ride....
“I was on a helicopter with Jerry Brown and Trump, and it didn’t go down,” Mr. Newsom, 56, said in an interview. He said that Mr. Trump had, however, repeatedly brought up the possibility of crashing. The subject of Ms. Harris, with whom Mr. Newsom had enjoyed a friendly rivalry, did not come up on the helicopter, he added....

ADDED: "Jerry Brown, the former governor of California, who bears little resemblance to Willie Brown" — give Trump points for "not seeing color."

UPDATE: “Trump Claims He Has Helicopter Trip Records and Threatens to Sue/Former President Donald J. Trump insisted that he was in a dangerous helicopter landing, though the man he said he was with said it never happened” (NYT).

UPDATE 2: "The other Black politician who says he was with Trump in that near-fatal chopper crash/Former Los Angeles city councilman and state senator Nate Holden said in an exclusive interview late Friday that he remembers the near-death experience well" (Politico):

“Willie is the short Black guy living in San Francisco,” Holden said. “I’m a tall Black guy living in Los Angeles.

“I guess we all look alike,” Holden told POLITICO, letting out a loud laugh.

Like Walz going to a combat zone rather than to Italy? Worse than this plane problem is the one with the plane in Brazil.

Trump's story about being in a rough helicopter landing with Willie Brown was actually with Jerry Brown, and there was no rough landing. Everything about the story was false, both men said.

Former President Donald J. Trump insisted that he was in a dangerous helicopter landing, though the man he said he was with said it never happened ~ NYT

The way things are going, the only thing that could save Trump from his continued implosion is the mainstream media. I’m sure they will try their best.

I see Brown denies it happened. Of course he wouldn't have any reason to lie about it.

I don't trust NYT stories that do not have the comments open. (I don't trust a lot of them that do have comments, but I'm even more skeptical when they don't want any conversation about it.)

This is the easiest way to murder Donald Trump. Water in his jet fuel. Easy peasy. No CIA 20-year-old spazoids needed.

In the late 1980s, a helicopter carrying some Trump casino exeuctives crashed and killed those on board, somewhere in NJ I think or maybe NY. Maybe that tragedy has somehow gotten twisted up in his mind with Trump himself in a helicopter facing death. I also am wondering about his mental health post-assassination attempt.

Willie Brown, Jerry Brown ? What's the difference? - only a Democrat can tell you.

Doesn't this - sort of - put Willie Brown in the news. You know, the Willie Brown - married man - who was shagging... oh wait, we don't want to talk about this. So desperate to catch Trump in a misstatement, they can't see what's happening.

Skin tone, no history of Harris’ skull whuppin’ and Jerry Brown wasn’t stupid enough to pay $50K for a new, just released ‘90 Mazda Miata back in the day.

Well it was an entertaining story. Trump even tried to shine the turd by claiming Willie Brown said really bad things about Harris, which didn’t happen either according to Brown and Newsome.

"Shine the turd" in reference to Willie and Jerry Brown. Good one, Inga.

In my expert layman's opinion, and leaving aside his well-known tendency to exaggerate, Trump may have something like PTSD.

And I speculated here long ago that his jet could prove a vulnerability if the Blob decided to off him. Which they obviously have.

Why would Billings name the airport "Logan:? Did they not know the name was taken?

Inga said...

The “shine the turd” reference is toward the story Trump told, not those he lied on.

mccullough said...

Jerry Brown said he never rode on a helicopter with Trump. Newsom says Jerry, Trump and he rode on a helicopter together.

So is Jerry lying or Gavin lying?

mccullough said...

Jerry is the Brown that Kamala didn’t fuck?

Arashi said...

At this point, why would anyone take any story in the NYT at face value? They have been lying to the American people for so long, they would not know the truth if it bit them on the backside, in public, with hundreds of witness's and video for verification. Since they are The American Pravda, one should expect nothing but the varnished bleatings handed down from their masters at the dnc.

Wince said...

I'm willing to concede the depth of Trump's recollection of the helicopter manifest was "that group of idiots from California," laudably without regard to their race, as was noted by Willie Brown himself.

Marcus Bressler said...

I don't believe anything the NYTimes writes about, nor do I take those libs quoted seriously. They ALL lie. Just a few weeks ago, they were alleging that Trump's ear was bruised by a piece of the teleprompter. They said Harris was never the "Border Czar". They (the Times) got a Pulitzer for LYING about something made up out of whole cloth involving Trump and the Russians. They lied about Biden's senility. Only a fool would take any of them at face value. Trump exaggerates and boasts; not a great habit. I cannot wait until he is back in the White House, this time kicking asses and firing people.

Uh oh. You shouldnt have mentioned wiretapping Trump tower...which Inga denied FOR YEARS...even after it was admitted.

Worse of course was how quickly, how deeply and how long Inga pounced on and wouldnt give up on the Trump communicates with Putin through Trump tower ping signals to Alfa Bank servers!!

Oh how she loved that hoax! Even after they got the IT and systems Hillary supporter that pulled off the fakery in court, under oath, and they admitted what they did, Inga STILL pushed that one!

LOL

Good times, good times....

I'm starting to think Trump is just letting the media flounder for the next week before the Dem convention. They have no content and lose money when Trump goes on vacay.

They literally ask Trump why he's not having campaign events while he is doing a 75 minute presser Q and A.

Trump needs to let the media twist in the wind till they've no hope but to go after Harris for ignoring them.

Jeez. Journalists are dolts.

I Shouldn’t Have Left the White House said...

What records could Trump possibly have? Did he seize the flight logs? Take down affidavits from the pilot? Just the worst bluffer of all time.

Rosalyn C. said...

While people are obsessing on how terrible and dishonest Trump is no one is mentioning the initial question which had been posed by the correspondent. The reporter asked Trump for his opinion on whether Kamala's career advancement was due to her personal/sexual relationship with Willy Brown. (She's been given the nickname, "kneepads.") He sidestepped answering and discussing his opinion on her career trajectory.
IMO that was a completely outrageous inappropriate BS question but instead of falling for it or getting mad about it Trump responded with an even bigger and more outrageous BS answer. I have no idea or interest if his story is true.
He definitely punked them which is what matters in this situation.

Take a ride on a chartered A-Star chopper in the 1990s from the East River Piers Heliport in Manhattan to Steel Pier Heliport on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City to visit Taj Mahal Casino with passengers Donald and Ivanka Trump joined by Trump Engineer Barbara Res and a "tall black guy" named Nate Holden who was an LA councilman and California state senator. Sadly, things go dicey when the pilot lost control while landing but eventually brought the aircraft down safely.

Res and Holden remember the incident well but demented Donald does not. Trump is 78 , Res is 75 and Holden is 95. Ivanka has not been consulted.

When Trump tells you out loud that he has lost it, believe him.

Trump's helicopter story involved a mix-up between Willie Brown and a completely different Black man named Nate Holden. Except the bigger point was Brown was dishing on Harris.

Ah, so we've pivoted from "He LIES!" back to "He's a racist!" with a frisson of "He has dementia!" about an event that happened in California a quarter of a century ago. (But let's elide Biden's not remembering the name of his own SecDef right now.)

Just yesterday, I recounted to a couple of friends, saying, "I can't for the life of me remember who told me this," a story that they had told me a couple of days prior. Hasn't that ever happened to you?

I was watching an episode of Mayday: Air Disaster on YouTube yesterday. It was about a FedEx plane that crashed on landing because the pilots hadn't gotten enough sleep. You commented yesterday that Trump looked tired and he probably is. Tired people make mistakes and Trump will get hammered in the press for every little mistake that he makes.

gadfly said...

Jamie still believes that Trump's memory of his helicopter crash occurred in California when it did not. Barbara Res wrote about the incident in 2003 in her "All Alone on the 68th Floor" book. California politician Nathan Holden confirmed the real helicopter crash to Politico yesterday. Both Willie Brown and Jerry Brown have denied flying with Trump on any helicopter in California that went down as written by the "dependable" NY Times.

Of course Trump suffers from dementia and has had memory lapses as shown in the nonsense interspersed in his speeches.

Trump is tired from sitting on his ass at MAL since the Republican convention? He has conducted only eight campaign events in the first seven months of 2024 and he slept through most of his NY State trials this year. He was held to be legally liable in all of them. How hard was that?

Trump must file his E Jean Carroll verdict appeal by Wednesday, August 14, now cooking at $93 million plus interest since March.
