Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.... Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.

ADDED: What's great here, rhetorically, is the combination of love and fighting. No one can forget his fist pumping and repetition of "Fight! Fight! Fight!" less than 2 minutes after he "felt the bullet ripping through the skin." But as his antagonists call for shared love — and an abandonment of fighting — he brings the love into his fight message, merging love and fighting. Notice that he isn't calling us to fight against any human being — indeed, he calls all Americans to fight on his side.  The enemy is "Wickedness" and "Evil."

Yes, someone wrote the Trump message and put it out publicly at this moment without any input from him. He was unable to conceive of making a patriotic message while sitting with his bandaged ear. He needed to call his Communications Coach before he could do any of that. Some nebbish did it all without his approval.

"With malice toward none, with charity for all.... " But when I re-read the whole Second Inaugural speech last night, it gave me pause. I recommend a quick refresher before begging for Civil War II. The pain and loss and woe reflected in those brief words is saddening.

Maybe there is some way that events will assist this nation, if led by PDJT, to resolve the great divide without killing huge numbers of our fellow Americans.

Here's an idea about how Wisconsin conservatives can fight. How about getting people to guard each ballot drop box. Record and identify everyone who uses it to drop ballots.

The really frisky ones could engage in civil disobedience and vandalize or destroy the boxes.

The not for profits can get together to ensure vote integrity by having poll watchers at every precinct and counting place. Have an army of well trained lawyers available to challenge every suspect rule change and anomalies.

I posted on the where were you thread about our buddy who died in Afghanistan. The bullet struck a glancing blow on his skull shattering it and causing his brain to swell to the point his brain died quickly.

The bullet hit Trump’s skin but not his skull. Even a glancing blow from a bullet with those ballistics is fatal.

We are so lucky.

Go back and listen to Trump’s speech the night of his election - after it was clear that he had won. I remember that he spoke of unification and centrism. But apparently beating Hillary was an unforgivable offense preventing any cooperation at the center. So the attacks began. We’ve been told Trump was a Putin stooge, a white supremacist, a conniving crook, an insurrectionist, and a fascist. The fact that for years he had been a frequent fill-in on late night talk shows and other New York City originating TV shows was totally forgotten. The man who David Letterman would have on frequently and repeatedly was now a monster and an enemy to not just the left, but to Democracy itself and the entire world.

From everything I've read the shooter was well outside the rally venue and the people trying to get security's attention were inside. I doubt it had any impact. The miss was mostly likely a sudden movement by Trump or gust of wind.

After all, I assume few politicians, especially at higher levels, write their own comments. I was expressing skepticism at those who purported Trump wrote his comment. Writing and public speaking are two completely different skills.

It might be interesting to give Trump and Biden paper and pen and have each of them write a letter of condolence and hope like the one referenced here.

Then give them a stage and an audience of thousands and have them talk passionately for an hour without a script or teleprompter.

We could do this as part of the golf challenge - make it an all-day thing. Give the Biden team a chance to stage of iconic photo of their own. Surround him with all the flags they want, then have Hunter nick him the ear from a 100+ yards.

Robert Cook, I think it's true that the founders didn't explicitly intend to set up a Christian nation; they went out of their way to build a structure that included religious freedom. But I think it's less obvious that they didn't intend to set up a Judeo-Christian nation.

For example - how do you square the concept of a Creator who endows humans with rights with, say, Buddhism? How do you square the concept of all men's [sic] being created equal in the eyes of God with, say, Islam?

They were all, every one of them, the product of a long Judeo-Christian history and culture, even if they themselves were deists or agnostics or atheists. Even Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris now admit that their New Atheism owes its conception of morality to the Judeo-Christian waters in which they swim. Dawkins even calls himself a "cultural Christian" now.

And certainly many of the founders, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the great majority of them, did explicitly agree with John Adams's view that "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other," at least insofar as the "moral" part... with American morality's being unquestionably based on Judeo-Christianity, regardless of any American's particular profession of faith.

Here’s my reporting on why the Secret Service did not shoot until AFTER the shooter engaged and some context about the House Republicans’ investigation already underway (months before Trump’s assassination attempt) into whether the agency’s DEI policies are affecting its readiness.

But a source within the Secret Service community tells RealClearPolitics that the agency rules of engagement in this situation are to wait until the president is fired upon to return fire.

“You want to take a shot then find out the guy was holding a telescope?” the source suggested. “The Secret Service is by nature reactive…and you better be right when you do react or you’re f-----d.”

The Secret Service protocol requires that a counter sniper aware of a potential shooter to radio directly to intelligence division team to respond and investigate. In this case, the investigation may have been cut short by the shooter firing his weapon, so the counter sniper then fired as quickly as possible in return.


I do not conclusively say that a sniper had eyes on the guy before he shot. But if no one at the Secret Service had any eyes on a guy with a rifle on the roof of the only building within 200 yards of the Presidential candidate, then either the incompetence is too breath-taking for words, or else the Biden Admin has been seriously cutting short Trump's protective team.

You pull the trigger on what appears to be a threat...and it turns out to be some assclown on a nearby roof who wants to watch the event but couldn't get a ticket. It sure looked like a rifle, he states in the after-action report and in testimony in his later criminal trial two years following his termination from the agency. Why take that risk?

No law enforcement officer can afford to be wrong under any circumstances so you just have to wait for the incoming before acting. Is it really that "preposterous", or are you blind to the corrosive impact you lefties have had? Or has that impact been intentional?

"...their Creator..." does not refer to or identify any specific "creator." It could just as easily be Zoroaster or Odin or any other of the countless "gods" humankind has created and believed in as real throughout our existence. It could simply refer to all faiths.
