"Oh! Oh! I am a Democrat. Oh! So sad, so cold, so hungry! The world is dark! The world in the future, she's bleak!... The worst nightmare kind of scenario! It's a doom loop!"

Jon Stewart enacts the drama of the Democrat's recent emotional arc:

"In the span of a week, Democrats have gone from the despair of a certain Trump presidency to the joy of a statistical tie...."

The audience cheers wildly at the joy of a statistical tie.

"The Daily Show" gives us 17+ minutes of this week's show, which I think is pretty good. Highlights:
"100,000 white women? That is a giant group of white women. I believe the scientific term is actually a 'goop' of women...."

Montage of "Joe Biden is going to be the nominee.... Biden's not going anywhere," etc....

A gesture at a JD Vance/couch joke...

Montage of Republicans emoting about the "coup inside the Democratic party" and a connection to the January 6th "coup"...

"Isn't there a grosser way you can say" that Kamala Harris slept her way to the top?

Ted Cruz providing the occasion for Jon Stewart to offer a delicate way to call him fat...
A "she was a DEI hire" montage followed by much pricking of your conscience for thinking about race.

Aaargh, the process of commenting is still in tiny font! Oh well. Here's hoping the reading of comments will be normal after the"click for more."

Anyway... I am getting right sick of being told that when a Democrat thinks about race - and solely about race -- it's bold and historic, but when a Republican points out the silliness of that approach, it's racist.

Apologies in advance for typos - this commenting format is making it impossible for me to see what I'm entering.

Ann Althouse said...

I see the different comment format some of the time, not all of the time. Don't know why it happened, and I didn't change anything, so I can't imagine there's anything I can do. It actually looks clearer for me, using a browser on a desktop.

Stewart has that punchable face, he never owns his part in foisting obama on gullible people

Ann Althouse said...

There, I changed the format — to something that's been worse in the past. See if this is better.

Narr said...

The comments are in their third version right now--different from the way they appeared for many years and also different from the 'large print' version it has been displaying sometimes recently.

Let's see if it works, which is the vital thing.

Props to our host for her efforts on our behalf. Things are weird at Blogger, apparently.

Ann Althouse said...

"The comments are in their third version right now"

They're different right now because I deliberately changed the format. Let me know how you like this. But this is something I've tried and rejected in the past... for a reason I can't remember.

Jamie writes, "Apologies in advance for typos - this commenting format is making it impossible for me to see what I'm entering."

Yeah, not mobile friendly anymore.

Ann Althouse said...

Oh, this is the setting that gives a "reply" function and allows people to jump to the top and screw up chronological order. Ugh! That's why I got rid of it before. No like. I'll leave it for now. Please don't use reply except where you are very specifically replying to someone.

narciso said...

Grammarly's a little like that, so you can end up with more typos in advance,

Quaestor said...

Not that Blogger ever has been notably friendly. Now we can't preview our comments, a useful feature. Perhaps this format will help correct Blogger's frequent whoopies.

If Google continues to suck, go on Gab or SocialGalactic. No one can make you free your own mind. The fact Comedy Central needs an aged out retread like Leibowitz is sad, but not as much as the rise of Kamala Harris. I almost hope President Trump loses to her, just to further delegitimize the oligarchy and make Kamala a figure of fun. But it doesn't matter. Events proceed.

Every criticism of Harris will be characterized as racist.

FWIW I prefer the old style, but maybe just because I was used to it. Not a fan of the nested replies, but could get used to it.

Forward!

The Dems - again - reveal their low character with this fake story about JD Vance having sex with a couch or thinking about it or something. The Dems are lowlifes and really the worst people in America.

FWIW, I like the direct 'Reply' feature. As for smart phone tiny font, I've always been able to zoom it up so I could read it, then zoom it back to find the 'Publish' button. I'm on the laptop most of the time, though, and this is an improvement.

Kamala as as a prosecutor will be an own goal. There is so many stories on social media of the prosecutorial misconduct from her and her office. One guy describes her cackling at him in the courtroom as he was wrongfully sentenced. He ended up winning over 13 million dollars against SF.

All Trump has to say is: "see?" See what she is like? It's all bullshit.

If you are trying to make Trump's legal issues seem credible, Kamala aint the pick.

Peachy said...

Stewart is unwatchable. Unlistenable. Just wretched.

Peachy said...

Wanted to apologize to everyone for the leftist media censorship. Here's why:

Biden(D) and his family set up shell companies and used his VP status to enrich themselves personally with international pay to play money. Money from US tax payers that was washed clean thru Barisma (Where Hunter was on the Board of Directors (why?) - and other such deals with China. etc...

Joe Biden is a crook and a liar- and he is the definition of a US President who is ABOVE THE LAW.

Peachy said...

Right on Q!

The corresponding reporter segment fell flat. Obviously another DEA hire. I can't stand Stewart because he doesn't constantly bow and scrape to PDJT, peace be upon him.

Dave Begley said...

I've come to hate today's Dem party. They are actively working to destroy America in order for themselves to make more money and keep themselves in power. Nothing they want to do will make America a better place. Harris and Biden are perfect representatives for today's Dems. And to top it off, they are both intensely stupid and unserious.

RCOCEAN II said...

Nested replies are awful. the only good format is chronological. Bob Wright has some weird Disqus format that makes it impossible to follow who's responding to who.

As for Stewart, I'm glad someone somewhere thinks he's funny. I don't. The fact that he occasionally takes a jab at the liberals or Democrats doesn't change the fact that he's attacking the Right or the Republicans 80 percent of the time. Plus, he's not funny. Unless you think raising an eyebrow is the epitome of wit.

DEI hire.. 'Affirmative Action' hire.. 'I have pity on you' hire.. whatever. Harris is just 100% incompetent. There search for a VP is gonna go to the bottom of the barrel cause no one with any sense wants to hitch their star to a millstone... her VP pick, eventually that is, will be a real zero. And zero + zero = 0 (and I don't care what the 'new' math says these days.)

I'm going to vote for Trump (as the lesser of 2 evils -- my default mode in almost all elections) but this clip was hilarious. Jon Stewart's return to “The Daily Show” on Monday brought in 1.9 million viewers. That's impressive.

Biden in the Democratic Debate of the 2020 campaign:

"“I commit that if I’m elected President and I have an opportunity to appoint someone to the courts, I’ll appoint the first black woman to the Court,” said Vice President Biden, meaning the Supreme Court. “If I’m elected President, my cabinet and my administration will look like the country, and I commit that I will in fact pick a woman to be Vice President."

Note that Stewart does not contest that she was, in fact, a DEI hire...

mikee said...

IF DEI is so great, why aren't the Dems celebrating those two DEI hires?

NKP said...

A "Reply" function is worthy of debate but, overall, I like it.

"Reply" invites discussion focused on specific points made by contributors. Formerly, a "reply" made 75 comments later is probably a 'dead letter'.

A spirited discussion inspired by "replies" might, however, move attention slightly away from the topic, as originally stated. Not cool by current guidlines, as I understand them.

What is more important? Continuity of thought/discussion or managing the clock? Maybe there's a way to do both?

Stewart is part of the vast swath of the media (some smart and some not, but I'd estimate at more than 90%) that spends its days amplifying and elaborating upon their assigned talking points from the mysterious hive mind of the Left. Those on the other side, like me, have become accustomed to the relentless stream of tendentious blather. What would it be like for the Jon Stewarts of the world to live in a society that flipped the ideolgical imbalance ? How many would knuckle under to the New Normal? Quite a few, I suspect.
One of the best things you can do for your evolutionary prospects is to agree with the opinions that are currently in vogue. Sure, eventually the lemmings go off the cliff, but that takes quite a while, and along the way you get a pretty good ride. And maybe you can even time your departure from the herd in a way that gets you into whatever is the Next Big Thing.
