"If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?"

Said Representative Jasmine Crockett, during a meeting of the House Oversight Committee, referring to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had just said to her "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading."

I've seen the video, and now I'm reading the NYT article, "The Ugly Effect of Physical Insults/A recent congressional meeting devolved into a back-and-forth that reflects a changing norm in politics — one that rarely makes anybody look good."

I don't approve of the unprofessionalism, but if we're just comparing insults and taking into account that Crockett didn't start it, I want to say "bleach blond, bad-built butch body" is impressive — with 6 B's in a row and the unforgettable "butch body." And can we analyze the extent to which "bad-built butch body" violates the norms of progressive speech. It's not just body shaming, it's expressing contempt for a woman's failure to have a body in the stereotypical female form. That's transphobic (in the broad sense).

By contrast, fake eyelashes are not part of a person's body, so the attack is less personal, more like making fun of a person's clothes. I'd say it's like pointing out a toupee, but I think a toupee is worn surreptitiously and used to hide what is believed to be a physical insufficiency. Fake eyelashes are simply enhancements, like lipstick, worn frankly and not hiding anything.

Ah, but I see, at CNN, that Crockett is crying racism: "That’s all it is, it is racism. And she decided that she was going to be that person out loud and out front on yesterday. The difference is I just wasn’t going to take it laying down.”

ADDED: TikTok loves this incident. This is the best I've seen there:

@therachelmaria Who knows if TT will show this. I’m in doghouse for DUETING a public interview. Lol #marjorietaylorgreene #AOC ♬ original sound - rachelmaria

I said transphobic in the broad sense: She's acting as though it's disgusting for a woman to have a body that reads as male.

I should also have said homophobic. To use "butch" as an insult is to say that it's bad to be butch. It's not bad!

Not necessarily a fan of the overall tone, but MTG's comment was at least 50% directed towards Crockett's insult to Greene. The oversight committee was holding a hearing on whether to hold Garland in contempt for refusing to release the audio of Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur, despite having already released a transcript (Biden is claiming executive privilege over the audio, despite the transcript having already been released - how bad must the "stutter" have been - or how inaccurate was the transcript - to look to withhold the audio???). MTG posed the question of whether any of the Dems on the committee employed Judge Merchan's daughter, which while a tangent, might be fair game to identify prejudices in committee members. Crockett suggested that MTG did not "know why we are here," and MTG responded with the fake eyelashes comment "messing up what [Crockett} was reading." Crockett insulted MTG first, rather than raising a rationally-phrased objection, and MTG responded suggesting that Crockett did not understand (or had not read about) the issues before the committee. Neither was particularly classy, each made their point, would have been better for everybody to just move on (or for Comer to demand an answer as to who was using Merchan's daughter, who is actively fund-raising for Dem candidates on the Trump trial), but for some reason, AOC decided to play the "white knight" and assume that Crockett, a black woman, was somehow incapable of defending herself and to take that role on for Crockett, which I thought was anathema in this day and age and certainly suggests that, deep in her heart, AOC agrees that Crockett is a dipshit.

Also, there is no way that was a spontaneous insult, seemed like something Crockett (or her writing staff) had in their pocket, waiting for a chance.

This whole thing has all the class of a hairpulling match in the girl's restroom in a lower class middle school.

To be fair, anyone who would need AOC to play "white knight" in their defense *is* a dipshit.

Fake eyelashes, scales… whatever.

The phrase in question originally comes from the Bible, in the book of Acts, wherein it describes the final event in the Apostle Paul’s conversion to Christianity.

And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Acts 9:18 (KJV)

Preceding the verse above was that fact that Paul had been struck blind during an encounter with Christ. Luke, the author of Acts, used the metaphor of scales falling from one’s eyes in an attempt to heighten the drama of the incident. In one instant, Paul went from being blind to having sight.

Why was this Committee meeting being held at night? Was it to allow delinquent Republicans to travel back to Washington from New York, where they had done performative work trying to help Trump defy the gag order, attacking Judge Merchan's daughter as a favor to Trump without Trump's actual fingerprints on the comments? And did the Republicans have too many cocktails on the flight?

People of Black, and transphobes/homophobes, are notoriously albinophobic.

Homophobia is the projected hate or fear of sex-correlated gender (e.g. sexual orientation). Homophobia is what motivated the progress of manufacturing politically congruent (PC) constructs, including couplets "=" to couples. Transphobia is an equitable and inclusive psychological condition that includes homophobia. Transphobia is the projected hate or fear that a male can simulate (e.g. neutering, bimbofication) the feminine gender but never become the female sex (e.g. large gamete production), and the social justification of males dominating/replacing females on the job, in competition, and through violence.

Ah, Jasmine Crockett. She claims to have been the victim of "a series of hate crimes" while in college. Despite being represented by Johnnie Cochran's law firm, her allegations could not be substantiated.

She pretended to be the lawyer representing a murder victim. The family had to issue several requests that she stop using his image in her campaign literature, then had to file a cease and desist order when she continued pretending to be his lawyer to run for office.

She should have been disbarred.

Her twitter feed is the most foul-mouthed series of anti-white slurs ever uttered by a sitting Congresswoman. She likes to slur white legislators as "raggedy" and uses the word "sh*t" prolifically to describe whites. She also retweets posts calling Republicans "klansmen." She should be investgated, right back to those fake hate crime claims and censured by Congress for overtly racist acts.

The six Bs insult, while apparently clever at first glance, collapses upon minimal inspection. Stripping away some of the extraneous Bs, we are left with: "somebody's ... blond ... body." Makes no sense. Hair is blond, but not a body. I suppose someone might have blond body hair, but that's clearly not what Crockett was saying. No one bleaches their body hair blond. At least, it's not common enough that anyone would understand her to be saying that. So for that reason, Crockett's bigoted blond butch bashing bombs bigly.

That insult Crockett used had a robust, Shakespearean ring. I gather that she had used it previously so it wasn't just off the cuff. Still, it was impressive. They all looked kind of bemused. I guess they all think that the highlight reel will play well with their constituents.... If they took it to the mat, MTG would be the favorite unless they went two on one with her. But that would be unfair and unworthy of Congress people....I guess it's too much to ask people in public life to display the kind of decorum that Trump brings to the forum.

By the way, Althouse, Crockett did start it. The internet tries to hide her longtime slurs against MTG, but they're available.

And this isn't about transphobia. The media, politicians, and celebrities had orgasms over Michelle Obama's athletic, strong arms. It is all about racism towards whites, especially white women, full stop. Don't be afraid to just say it. MTG has many faults, but racism isn't one of them. When you come up in Atlanta's political climate, you know the anti-white slurs and exactly what they mean.

Unfortunately, Netflix just turned A Man in Full into full-on, sloppy, black revenge porn against whites. I was looking forward to it. They misrepresented every damn thing in that extremely accurate book. Just rewriting a little history. To avoid depicting the wife-beating, bribe-collecting, imprisoned Mayor Bill Campbell, who actually moved all public housing OUT of Atlanta with Bill Clinton's help to make a playground for the rich, they just, risibly, make the mayor a fighter for housing for the poor, and make his palatial office look like a filing room closet.

I guess you have to read the book, if you haven't.

Bingo, Althouse.

MTG mocked Crockett's choices. The Dems whined about "attacking someone for their characteristics" (a lie, she's was being attacked for her choices, which is always a legitimate target), then attacked MTG for her actual characteristics.

If you ever want to know what Democrats are doing / planning on doing, you simply have to look at what they accuse the other side of doing.

Because the Dems ALWAY project
