"Judge Maryellen Noreika denied all five of [Hunter] Biden’s motions, keeping the case on track..."

"... for a June trial in Delaware. Biden was indicted in September on three counts tied to possession of a gun while using narcotics. Efforts to have the case thrown out included arguments of selective and vindictive prosecution and that special counsel David Weiss was unlawfully appointed to oversee the case. The judge also rejected Biden's contention that a pretrial agreement, which would have nixed the indictment and upcoming trial, was in effect...."

Anyone want to explain to me why a short eight paragraph summary article at NBC requires three journalists on the byline?

Gotta love that smackdown on Hunter’s claim that the DOJ is singling him out unfairly: “Defendant’s claim is effectively that his own father targeted him for being his son, a claim that is nonsensical under the facts here….” Judge Noreika ain’t buying the BS he’s selling.

The judges action should not be news, It should be the norm.

This has to be the funniest thing I’ve ever read.

Selective prosecution? That’s rich!

It seems to me that for the “selective and vindictive prosecution” argument to work one would have to accept that it is okay to violate firearms laws provided Daddy is the President.

Once upon a time not very long ago, they were thanking their lucky stars that David Weiss had been appointed to oversee the case - or rather, to oversee the calendar and ensure that there wasn't one.

There are about a hundred felonies that Hunter documented himself, and that are available on video to law enforcement.

What about those?

A pardon is coming, right after voters vote and can never influence it.

Ah dueling trial dates. You can bet that the MSM will call Trump's trial in June the trial of a "fraudster", whilst news of Hunter Biden's trial will be both ignored and buried deeper than the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Yancey Ward said...

Lucky for Hunter is that no jury in Delaware is going to convict him and the prosecutors will just continue to try to throw the case anyway- they never wanted to indict him anyway, it is why he was offered the plea deal and why they delayed so long on the easiest charges (the clear-cut tax evasion) to prove in order to let the statute of limitations take effect.

Did Hunter lie on his background check to purchase the firearms?

Did he buy the gun legally?

The average black person would be in jail for a long time if they did either of those things. They are also noticing that Joe Biden is a racist shithead and so is the average person in the party of Slavery, Jim Crow, and Affirmative Action.

Police confiscated an unregistered gun E Jean Carrol had. No files charged.

The gun probably cost her 83 million dollars right?

Carrol is a liar and a fraud and now an uncharged criminal who committed multiple gun felonies.

Democrats and Uniparty toads are just lawless pieces of shit.

"Com'n, Judge, you can't, you just can't. This is so outrageously unfair, that you would allow a trial to go forward that might, in the end, hold a highly-connected Democrat ACCOUNTABLE!"

"This is the end of democracy!"

It's selective prosecution as Democrat-protected persons are rarely prosecuted. There's too much interest to bury the case as is the usual practice.

I'm not going to do that, because I agree with the judge on these rulings (while making no judgment about the ultimate disposition of the case).

But of course, most of you Althouse TrumpWing commenters are still the same shit heads as usual. Complaining about how the DoJ is unfair, even in the face of a very aggressive prosecution of Hunter Biden. A story like this hits you upside the head, and you continue to prattle on about "two-tiered" justice. Just look at all of the comments on this page that presume that Hunter Biden is getting a sweet deal. Even when such comments are so laughably stupid, I think it is incumbent on people like me to call you out and ridicule you. We are not fucking around, this election year.

Kudos to Althouse for the blog post.

The notion of taking the story in some uncharted territory, would occur to say one out of three, easily shut down. Knowing the certain outcome going in, suppression is self imposed.

Who gives s...? This isn't about gun charges. Its about distraction from daddy's criminality. The POTUS sold influence through his son and brother. Thats the crux of the matter. Poor Hunter.

Will Joe get to serve 10% of Hunter's sentence?

Of all the comments here, this may be the richest.

Trump pardoned Jared's father Charles Kushner, the truly evil, profoundly rotten felon who tried to blackmail his own brother-in-law out of testifying against him. Witness tampering then became one of the added charges against him and Kushner was convicted on all of them.

Trump pardoned Steve Bannon before Bannon even went to trial for defrauding charity donors. Trump pardoned Roger Stone. Trump pardoned Paul Manafort, who had been more or less banking on a pardon and refusing to cooperate with the Justice Department after he had been caught, tried, and convicted of colluding illegally with Russian interests. Trump pardoned Duke Cunningham, the center of what was likely the biggest Congressional bribery scandal in history.

Trump pardoned Detroit's infamous crook mayor Kwame Kilpatrick even while Kilpatrick remained laughably out of compliance with his judgment's restitution provisions.

Trump specialized in big money/Republican-Swamp pardons. Eddie DeBartolo Jr.; Michael Milken; David Safavian; Paul Erickson; Robin Hayes; Ed Henry; Douglas Jemal; Elliot Broidy (LMFAO; look that one up).

Then there were the MAGA-crazy pardons; Dinesh D'Souza; Michael Flynn; George Papadopoulos; Duncan Hunter; Mueller investigation defendant Alex van der Zwaan.

And honestly, this list barely scratches the surface of all of the friends of Jared, the Trump Tower lessees, the Palm Beach socialites who got Trump pardons. None of the ones I've mentioned, and few of any of the Trump pardons, had gone through normal channels of the Office of the Pardon Attorney. Some fantastic Trump filth, when you total it all up.

And the fact that Joe Biden will certainly not pardon Hunter makes it all the better; not for President Biden or for Hunter, but for Trump haters like me.

Chuck said "Joe Biden will certainly not pardon Hunter". Is that (a) because there's a deal that the Govt will only prosecute Hunter for these minor offenses and not pursue more serious charges? Or is it (b) because, by post Nov. 2024 Biden will have forgotten who "Hunter" is?

Interestingly, victoria from pasadena remains one the staunchest far left defenders of Joe Biden showering with and sexualizing his own adolescent daughter...whilst our LLR-democratical and Violent Homosexual Rage Rape Fantasist Chuck has long demonstrated clear disturbed thoughts regarding young children.

Burisma Hunter should be on trial with his father for illegal international money laundering and other RICO statute violations.

This gun BS is just a diversion.

stlcdr said...

I'm not really interested in Hunter Biden except for two things - blatant federal firearm violation which is being ignored (while the plebs like us are prosecuted to the max) and the connection and money flow to President (sic) Biden over many years.

Both of these are big fucking deals that were attempted to cover up - by the government - and keep 'hush' (so that's a third thing - the cover up is worse than the crime?)

Shorter Chuck: but Trump is worse!

What crap--the one charge that they preserved was the one that doesn't involve Daddy, is Constitutionally and factually suspect, and is unpopular with gun owners.

"We went after and prosecuted Hunter Biden. All of you people whining about political favoritism are clearly just barking at the moon."

The playbook is so obvious.

JAORE said...

Huh? I thought "selective and vindictive prosecution" was just swell in this modern world....

I wonder if I can recall a few examples?

mikee said...

boatbuilder - The charge they preserved has teeth, with good draconian sentences and very clear applicability to the accused. The potential punishment can be leveraged against Hunter to flip him into a witness for prosecution of lotsa other family members and business associates, or would be leveraged in a more normal case. Here it might just get a jury nullification or a most lenient sentence or prosecutorial mistakes leading to overturning conviction on appeal. There are many games possible, some good, some bad.

And very few gun owners don't want gun possession during execution of a drug felony to be unpunished. See, gun owners are mostly law abiding folk. Otherwise the hundreds of millions of guns owned in the US would be causing a lot more havoc than is reported already.
