I'm pretty sure, not positive, that I agree.
The global coordination by multiple G7 countries and treatment of Assange is proof - among so many other proofs - that a deep and unelected trans-national intelligence apparatus exists and actually runs things in the West's 'liberal' democracies. This has nothing to do with republicans or democrats, or dweebish far-left/right dialectic, and everything to do with a regulatory ratchet that only ever turns in one direction....either for their interests or against their enemies.

Assange is a journalist who published information that damaged the regime and we are all more aware because of it.
He should get a medal.

Have the Deep State people with their fingers in Ukraine and Obama's ventures been exerting pressure to keep Assange and Snowden stigmatized as evildoers and quiet? High time the persecution campaign was taken off the road. I'm not sure a 'dead man' switch for data dumps would help, given the amount of government overreach that presently exists on the internet, one way or the other, but all of them concentrated with precisely the wrong, most untrustworthy people.

Trump broached the idea of a pardon but got slammed hard by the Intelligence Community and Deep State operatives. In due course this flowed together with his poking into Ukraine, the 51 highly-paid doofuses who denied the reality of Hunter's laptop, and other defensive cover-up efforts by our Keystone Kops government.

This is encouraging, but I can't assume this is the first step in his being freed from incarceration and from all legal sanctions against him. I will hold some small hope, however, more than I had previously.
Assange has spent over 10 years in isolation. He's dead broke and his friends have for the most part deserted him, fearing govt. retribution. So what is to be gained by further persecution, um, prosecution? Nothing. Leave the guy alone. Let him get on with his life.
Trump should have pardoned Assange, Howard.
That he didn't was probably due to the same insider frauds telling Mr. Trump to let Hillary off the hook.

Let us see if the UK has enough soverignty left to tell the US to piss off. I doubt it, but it would be a pleasant surprise.
The US vendetta against Assange will be another historical blot on America's deeply flawed Deep State.

That is not his argument. His argument is that journalists have always received secret information and documents from those who wish to reveal secrets, and the First Amendment has protected them in publishing secret information. He also denies he participated in the theft of documents. Of course, our government claims he participated in the thefts in order to get around the First Amendment's protection and to defame Assange. "Running away and hiding" reflected Assange's astute awareness (as with Snowden) that the US is a cruel and vindictive state, determined to crush those who endanger the empire's prerogatives, using any tactics of punishment necessary, (not exempting murder).
