Bloodbath.

This is the third post of the morning and, like the previous two, it has a title consisting of one word that's in the news this morning. I can see from the comments in those other posts and in last night's open thread, that people especially want to talk about "bloodbath."

I feel so pushed to talk about "bloodbath" this morning that I balk at churning out a "bloodbath" post. You already know what you want to say. Is it my job to expound on "bloodbath" as it relates to the free-speaking raconteur Donald Trump and his gasping, raging antagonists?

I'll just feed your bloodbathlust with my favorite "bloodbath" quotations from the OED:

1832 England has escaped the blood-bath of a French Revolution. T. Carlyle in Fraser's Magazine May 407/1

1834 On blood-baths... According to a dark tradition,..the ancient kings of Egypt used to bathe in human blood when they were seized with leprosy. London Medical Gazette 22 February 813

1989 In an interview after the victory, Daley sought to assure Blacks that there would be no personnel bloodbath at City Hall. Jet 24 April 9/1

1992 The tough, black-browed colonel to whom I never spoke until he warned me for a late tackle in a bloodbath of a Cumberland Rugby Cup match after the war. G. M. Fraser, Quartered Safe out Here 35

1994 His people did badly everywhere—and atrociously in the South, where the Democrats endured a bloodbath in a region they used to monopolise. Evening Standard (Nexis) 9 November 9

2003 I've travelled all the way down from Moscow to take a blood bath... I've consulted many doctors about my back pain, but this bath is the only thing that helps. Independent (Nexis) 20 June 12

2005 Evangelical Christians are ‘raptured’ up to heaven, leaving secular humanists to perish in an epic bloodbath. Vanity Fair (New York) December 204

2011 Greenspan's Fed raised the rate another half percent—and there was a bloodbath on Wall Street. M. Heffernan, Wilful Blindness iii. 60

Isn't "the end of democracy" worse than a "bloodbath"?

Or does it just depend on who's standing on the bully pulpit and wielding the jawbone?

The claim that Trump threatened the country with violence if he doesn't win is one of the more outrageous media lies I have seen in my lifetime- no one with an IQ in the triple digits who actually heard the word in the context Trump used it could possibly have believed that was how he meant it, so they are either morons or liars.

That GM Fraser quote is from one of the great war memoirs. He was a tommy in Burma.

The sad thing is that we're going to have some non-metaphorical bloodbaths, regardless of and quite apart from the election results. Possibly well before the election.

It has become a tired trope, hasn't it? I tune out what Donald Trump says, and I watch what he does. So much angst about Trump's orating ! If you tune out what he says, it makes it even easier to tune out how it's being maliciously yanked out of context and distorted to serve his opponents. If you start with the premise that Trump, speaking publicly, is an absurdist, then all of that responsive animus and malice becomes but a background murmur. Much easier to take it, that way. Trump is simply baiting his opposition, because they lack the self-awareness to realize they're even more absurd when they take the bait.

OED doesn't matter. Context doesn't matter. The fact everybody in politics has used that term doesn't matter. The fact everybody in media has used that term doesn't matter. The fact everybody knows that he isn't promising more J6 "bloody insurrections" doesn't matter.

Get Trump, Inc. is all that matters to the idiots that have made this a thing. So the barking hyenas all bark the same song, doing just exactly what Trump knew they would do ("more bloody insurrections" being my favorite twisting of his words to date). Just like he knew the man he addressed in his remarks, Xi Jinping, would also get the message loud and clear, as would the auto workers currently facing that bloodbath if Joe is reelected. Which is what he was saying, if you didn't already know.

So everybody knows and the certain somebody's pretend to misunderstand while their audiences shrink away day by day.

Blood bath is a trumpian word. Overstated, exaggerated, and colorful. I never met anyone who used it in real life. Whenever I've hear/read its ususally in relationship to the finacial markets. The bulls are "taking a blood-bath". It was a "blood bath" today on wallstreet.

The MSM is just doing what they've been doing to Trump for 7 years. Lying about him. Taking his quotes out of context and pretending he meant something he didn't. Taking an ambigious statement and putting the dumbest most negative interpetation on it, etc.

What never ceases to amaze me, is how they all coordinate the message. Yahoo news/Google News/ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS/CNN/MSNBC/AP/WaPo/NYT/NPR all come out with the same story, with the same slant, at the same time. Usually, they use the same "Key words". I wonder if the network execs copied each other on Emails. I wouldn't doubt it.

BTW, The only wild cards are the Fox/NY Post. Sometimes they will join in, sometimes they wont.

I get tired of hearing the "party line" but I'm glad others pushback, so the dumb "independents" understand what is going on.

Trump is leading in the polls which makes him a serious contender but as he moves further into the lead, the media behave more and more like trained seals, barking out the word of the day in unison. Maybe we could call the word of the day, the "mword," from "media word." Look at the typing we'd save. Instead of saying the "the media word trending over the last few days", we just say "mword." For instance: I wonder if the mword is trending in any way? The mword was "fiery" as in Joe Biden's fiery SOTU speech. Now it's "bloodbath." By the summer, scenes at the Dem convention will be "apocalyptic" if mword trends continue. But is the mword peaking too early? For after "apocalypse," what? Galactic imagery? Trump becoming a "black hole" sucking in all the votes? followed by the "Big Bang" of his inauguration? and then the "heat death" of the left and the end of mwords?

Whatever happened to "cruel neutrality"?

Would you at least consider the possibility that Trump is not a "free-speaking raconteur" and is basically an old man yelling at people to get off his lawn?

His description of a bloodbath (which you apparently believe was badly misinterpreted) was ambiguous at best. He might indeed been referring only to the automobile industry. But of course he added ""Now if I don't get elected, it's gonna be a bloodbath for the whole, that's gonna be the least of it, it's gonna be a bloodbath for the country, that'll be the least of it." So he arguably not talking about just the automobile industry but the entire country". (Actually, it will apparently be worse than a bloodbath, maybe an olympic sized bloodpool).

"The introduction of cheap Chinese autos - which are so inexpensive because they are backed with the power and funding of the Chinese government - to the American market could end up being an extinction-level event for the U.S. auto sector," the Alliance for American Manufacturing said in a report - Reuters

What really is freaking them out is not a word that has become anodyne through use over the centuries, but the fact that Donald Trump is speaking to union workers, who are supposed to be owned by the Democrats, and suggesting that maybe Joe Biden doesn't have their bast interests at heart. It sounds stupid, the way they are framing it, and it is easy to ridicule, which is part of its success as a strategy, because nobody is talking about how Donald Trump is the guy looking out for autoworkers, are they? I can see the people driving the media agenda tapping their foreheads now and saying "not so stupid..."

Here are some definitions to help you keep up with US politics

A demagogue: A person who explains to the turkeys the purpose of a turkey farm.
Populism: When the turkeys begin to organize against Thanksgiving.
"Our democracy" Is when the turkeys are allowed to vote, as long as their candidates are all for Thanksgiving.

The insanity is that what Trump actually said wasn't a call for violence. It was a call for idiotic economic policies. He called for a 100% tariff on importation of foreign cars. Next week he'll figure this out and announce different policies. If we succeed in electing him, it will be less bad than reelecting Biden, but it's not going to be great. The guy is erratic.

Hassayamper said...

One of the most comical outcomes of this silly flap is how many media doofuses that are now screaming bloody murder -- (oops, can I still say that?)-- about this word are on the record using it in precisely the sense Trump meant it, as an economic calamity leading to large job losses and great hardship. There are also some who have used it as a metaphor for a political rout or landslide.

It all reminds me of the howls of outrage from the Left when Sarah Palin used printer's registration marks on a map of competitive Congressional districts that vaguely resembled the cross-hairs in a rifle scope. Then many, many instances of Democrats using similar or even more explicitly violent imagery came to light-- target bullseyes, arrows, and actual crosshairs, among others. One memorable TV commercial showed the Republican candidate himself being surveilled on video, through a scope with crosshairs centered on his head, looking exactly like the sight picture in the moment before a sniper takes the kill-shot. Its makers were obviously pig-ignorant left wing urban lotus eaters who had never actually looked through a telescopic gunsight, and probably was meant to summon up memories of hidden-camera stings of the sort that 60 Minutes used to do, but to anyone who'd been on a deer hunt it was quite jarring.

The difference this time is that they are getting vigorous pushback, with re-posts of their own previous invocations of the term, served up with plenty of contempt and ridicule. The mockers and jeerers on every "bloodbath" post on Twitter outnumber the left-wingers 20 to 1. It's been glorious. Another major milestone on the way to obliterating any remaining shreds of public trust and credibility that the parrots and puppets of the regime news media still cling to.

We have millions of idle useless eaters living at the expense of the public. After the Great Deportation, we should announce that all direct government support for locusts and layabouts is now terminated. No. I saw a Twitter clip of it after also seeing one of him attacking DeSantis for some reason. What I felt about seeing the clip is that Trump is recklessly shooting off his mouth, again. I felt in that moment that, again, Trump is his own worst enemy. He brings this crap on himself, over and over.

When he did this idiocy in 2016 (and even in 2020), I voted for him because he was going to be better than the alternatives. And he is to be thanked for the good things he did during his term. But that was then. And since then he has gotten infinitely worse and I'm not going to encourage it by being a Sycophant for Trump.

Further, more and more of the positions he is advocating - to the extent that he ever talks issues rather than just rants and raves and insults - are diametrically opposed to conservative values. Which should not be surprising since Trump has recently denied that he is a conservative (or are you folks going to try to spin and explain that away too?). The fact is that less and less is Trump less of a danger than Biden. He is certainly less trustworthy. I can trust Biden to be a disaster, but I can no longer trust Trump that he won't be one.

But enough about me. What are your feelings?

And it is coming from you and the other haters from the left. Love watching you meltdown because you know Trump is winning, and your side is nuts.

We have millions of idle useless eaters living at the expense of the public

I know you know who coined that term "useless eaters." So why would you use it? Why would anyone use it?

No one ever needs to be quoting the fucking Nazis.

'Freder, IQ 95 or liar- you choose.'

You're being quite generous today. For most liberals, 95 is aspirational.

Btw, has anyone figured out where Morning Joe was when his intern died?

explain how he is going to round up all the "illegal" immigrants (which if we believe Trump is somewhere between 10 and 20 million people), deport them, and not explode the deficit and create massive inflation and food shortages?

Illegal aliens.

Civil... citizen rights are a hard problem. People of Black, of Brown, of Yellow, of Orange, of Female sex, are learning the history of diversity modalities.

The deficit is primarily driven by underfunded Medicare, unfunded Medicaid, under the Obamacares umbrella sustained through a delicate balance with the slave State of China. Food shortages occur where there is insufficient production, irregular distribution, or excess consumption (of a low or counterproductive diet).

Field Marshall Fredor said: "The idea that Donald Trump is the friend of autoworkers or workers in general is laughable."

Crude oil closed at $52.00/ barrel 1/20/21.

Crude oil at $82.98/ barrel today, a mere 59% increase.

So Fredor, did the election of Biden help the worker bees with the cost of driving their vehicles?

BTW, Trump as president was the only president to stand up to China.

Andy McCarthy
@AndrewCMcCarthy

The irony is that everyone knows Trump’s election would lead to violent rioting, and that the same people clutching pearls over the ‘bloodbath’ kerfuffle would describe *that* as ‘mostly peaceful protest.’

His description of a bloodbath (which you apparently believe was badly misinterpreted) was ambiguous at best.

No. It wasn't. It was as plain as day he was talking about EVs, the Chinese, Mexico, tarrifs and the auto industry.

So, fuck off. See if you can misinterpret that.

Trump as president was the only president to stand up to China.

Negotiated a viable opening with North Korea, curbed Iran's enthusiasm in Iraq and regionally, collaborated with Mexico et al to pursue emigration reform, added a check and balance to Kiev's bloodletting, brought Arab leaders to agreement in a post-Ottoman era... all for naught, it seems, with the advent of the Sino-Fauci Establishment virus.

Freder Frederson said...

Food shortages occur where there is insufficient production,

My point exactly. Who do you think picks, and butchers, the vast majority of crops and meat, for human consumption in this country?

The meatpacking industry used to be a good paying union job. Since the seventies it has broken the unions, moved out of large cities, and relies on refugees and undocumented workers to produce cheap meat.

Freder Frederson said...

You're the angriest guy here, Freder. Always have been.

This may be true, but my anger has never included fantasies of locking a bunch of people up, or worse yet, hanging my opponents from lamp posts. Nor have I ever advocated genocide.

Freder Frederson said...

And it is coming from you and the other haters from the left.

Find one post where I have advocated " hatred, anger, bloodlust and the desire for insurrection and violent revolution".

You can't because you are just making shit up.

Any able-bodied welfare bum not caring for young children will instead get a one-way Greyhound bus ticket to a barracks in farm country, where he will pick crops for the new, higher prevailing wage.

So you are advocating a return to slavery. Good to know.

The claim that Trump threatened the country with violence if he doesn't win is one of the more outrageous media lies I have seen in my lifetime- no one with an IQ in the triple digits who actually heard the word in the context Trump used it could possibly have believed that was how he meant it, so they are either morons or liars.

These lies are not made to influence those with triple digit IQs. They are targeted at the bottom half of the distribution.

Feder should listen to Michael Moore on the issue of Trump and the auto workers. It is not Trump who wants to create what the manufacturers said would be an “extinction level event” for the industry, it’s Joe Biden who is going to try to force us into EVs.

But we all oblige Biden in his plans by focusing on this fake news controversy about a commonly used word.

We've since come to learn that it was under Trump's Administration that the U.S. financed the engineering of COVID in the Wuhan lab. That's Wuhan, China, under the control of the Communist Chinese government.

Hassayamper said...

Certainly not. No one will be made to work. If they want to live by dumpster diving they can do so. If they want to sneak across the border to Canada and suck off the tit of the Canadian government, they are welcome to try. But government handouts for merely existing will come to an end. If they want help from the government, it will come in the form of a bus ticket and a cot in a farming town man-camp, not a welfare check.

The only exceptions would be for mothers or widowed fathers caring for dependent children, and people who are truly disabled. Drug and alcohol dependency most emphatically NOT to be included in the definition of disabled. You can pick onions perfectly well while drunk or stoned.

While everybody is filling in their, blanks their way, President Trump is talking about actual policy.

I wish Peter Doucy would have asked Jake Sullivan, if Biden was going to allow Chinese companies, building electric cars in Mexico to invade the US like illegal migrants. Instead of the lame question about Biden throwing temper tantrums.

This is now Tuesday, and I have seen zero analysis of the Chinese EV manufacturing plants in Mexico. What all those cars coming into the US would do to GM, Ford, and the largest, TESLA.
Well, I mean President Trump is talking about it. Nobody else.

Blood bath accomplished what no Campaign White Paper would dream of.

Des Moines is ~ $.40 cheaper than my local market, so we manage our fuel accordingly.
Using the Des Moines market gas is up over a dollar. It was as low as $2.10. The last I got in DM was $3.19
For the math challenged, that is 50% inflation

NOW Mark doesn't like China. The program, Mark, had been going on before Trump took office and was not told to him until the inevitable happened.
