"Justice Juan M. Merchan’s decision to start former President Donald J. Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan next month opens the possibility..."

"... that Mr. Trump’s federal trial on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election could take place in the late spring or early summer. But the scheduling of the election interference case, which is taking place in Washington, is now in the hands of the Supreme Court.... The election trial in Washington had initially been set to begin on March 4. But the judge overseeing it, Tanya S. Chutkan, recently scrapped that date as Mr. Trump pursued his immunity claims. Justice Merchan has set the hush money case for March 25 in Manhattan, noting on Thursday that the trial could last about six weeks. He also mentioned that he had spoken to Judge Chutkan about the timing of their cases, all but sealing that the Washington matter would not go to trial until May at the earliest...."

From "Live Updates: Judge Sets Trial Date in Trump’s Manhattan Criminal Case/Ruling that the case against Donald J. Trump can proceed, Justice Juan M. Merchan said he planned to begin the trial on March 25" (NYT).

You know why the most popular politician in Pakistan is now in prison? Because he was tried and convicted of espionage and revealing state secrets after mentioning a cable from the United States to the Pakistani military ordering them to remove him from power.

This is how the US "defends democracy."

The goal is get Trump convicted (sure to happen in this case given the venue), and get him jailed immediately afterwards.

It is New York, so it won’t go well for Trump. But when it is done, things won’t be well for New York with the precedent set.

The first of 91 criminal charges. And he can't blame Biden for this one.

Hard to keep track of all the Trump fraud. Trump University. Business fraud in NY. Now this. Finally going to trial. Couldn’t happen to an nicer man

It's a lawfare collision. Apparently with more than just the worst DA in the country going after Trump you get problems when multiple worst DAs chip in.

The use of confidentiality provisions in settlement agreements is widespread, and utterly uncontroversial.

It's as if the guardians of our legal system have decided to destroy its legitimacy. Cui bono?

They make no attempt to hide the fact these things need to be highly coordinated for maximum political effect. No real attempt at tying them to justice or fairness

SCOTUS will oblige, as is their tendency…

It's nice that they have been able to maintain message discipline on the "hush money" case. Hush money is so much scarier than a confidentiality agreement.

Careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

Speaking of hush money - let's have some information on the people paid off from the Congressional hush/slush fund specifically for paying of victims of sexual assault, etc.

Or more importantly, who the payments were made on behalf of . . . .

Let's dance.

The Know Nothings and their friends in the media don't like to talk about Trump University.

These cases keep being filed, yet Donald Trump's campaign keeps chugging forward.

Are we yet at the part of the movie where empty pistol is thrown at the monster?

The first of 91 charges reminds me of someone shaking their fist at the American public screaming "I never had sex with that woman." Then came the fines, disbarment and all the other women. But he was relatively honest compared to Obama and Biden and this Marxist posse.

They made St Floyd a God in their cult. What more needs to be said of their honesty, morality, and integrity.
