See also, "Wendy Williams documentary will still air this weekend after legal guardian files lawsuit against Lifetime’s parent company" (CNN).
The four-part docuseries, “Where is Wendy Williams?” provides a painfully candid depiction of Williams’ life as she struggles with health issues and alcohol abuse. It is executive produced by Williams herself and includes on-camera participation from her family.
Williams was diagnosed with aphasia and dementia in 2023, according to a statement from her care team on Thursday.... The guardianship approved Williams’ participation in the project, according to Lifetime.
Here is the trailer:

Based on that trailer I'd say being seen without a wig is far from the largest trouble she has in her life.
I don't know Ms. Williams to any real extent. But who would expose a loved one this way? The motives that occur to me are NOT flattering.
Perhaps I'll be the first to post that I have no idea who Wendy Williams is, nor why I should.
That said, I've had a conservatorship with dear demented departed and it's no fun at all.
I guess I should state right up front that I have no idea who Wendy Williams is. Maybe I should have. But I've been pretty busy, with a pretty full life. And I never came across anything from Wendy Williams that I needed to pay attention to.
I'm sorry for her dementia. I'm sorry for anyone going through that. I've seen articles about this recently and thought that maybe I should have known who she is. But I don't.
I've never laid eyes on the haired version of whoever this is.
My mother suffers from dementia, so I do suspect if she was sound mind, she wouldn't want to be exploited like this. Before I go further, I think this is where the rest of the world points to the US and says "damn, you are very litigious society". The documentary is about showing the effects of dementia and part of that is a loss of personal care and hygiene. You agreed to have that documented, then whether it was clearly stated, it would include being shown without a wig.
If Wendy Williams, being of sound mind, agreed to the documentary, then I would have some sympathy for her, but I would still support showing her in current state as it relates to the objective of the documentary. As it is, her guardian approved this documentary. That's exploitative of Wendy's name and likeness. I have no sympathy for that beyond a family maybe supplementing Wendy's income for better care. Still, it is exploitative. With that in mind, the guardian suing for Wendy being documented as expected; I would find for the defense.
This is just an elder care version of the mom being exploitative of her daughter as discussed yesterday.
I don't know much about her at all, but this is very sad.
Imagine being such a soulless person that you would exploit a sick person in exchange for money.
You'd have to be a democrat politician.
Hollywood is a sick place...
Barely familiar with her.
She seemed to take pleasure in other peoples issues.
Enough comments about how you don't know who she is. I have a tag for her, so why not click on it and read the old post. She's just a talk-show host from a talk show you didn't watch.
The story presents a very interesting topic that isn't dependent on her being a celebrity that you have followed. She has dementia and aphasia and they made a reality show explaining/exposing her condition. There's a court-appointed guardian that sued Lifetime over the show.
I was trying to figure out if she was Wendy O Williams, in which case I might have been interested. She didn't really seem likely as the subject of a Lifetime documentary, though.
"She's just a talk-show host from a talk show you didn't watch."
I didn't watch it either.

This is something I find interesting apart from her as a celebrity. I blogged about her once before, when a NYT fashion writer characterized her as a "female female impersonator."
One of the earliest symptoms of dementia is the inability to recognize the names of well known celebrities like Wendy Williams. It progresses from there. There are even some far gone cases of the disease where the patient is unable to recognize the name of Oprah. Fortunately, these cases are extremely rare.
I watched her show once. I watch a lot of garbage tv.
What they're doing to her is evil. Why aren't senior services stepping in?
Too much resonance with the White House?
I see she has a CASA. I highly recommend it. You learn as much as you give.
Damn, I miss the Plasmatics.
I know who she is and I had my maternal grandparents succumb to dementia. It is a horror and I feel for her family.
Shorter Althouse: Think what I'm thinking!
The perfect illustration of the lifecycle of fame, Hollywood / L.A. style. It's like an even more depraved version of Sunset Boulevard, because this time, it's family.
'Enough comments about how you don't know who she is.'
I know who she is, just not much about her : )
And I know enough to know that this was coming (the dementia part).
The point is, Hollywood is a money-grubbing operation populated by low-life types who will do anything for fame and a buck.
This is par for the course...
The demented woman I was responsible for was--had been--a skilled maker of wigs.
But I didn't click on the 'wigs' tag either.
Exploiting someone's tragic condition for $$$. Typical TV exec scumbag behavior.
Yeronner, I move for dismissal, the plaintiff was not taped, nor filmed. She was recorded by digital media.
Court needs to appoint a different guardian.
I Recall Wendy Williams. Never cared for her. She was a celebrity and had her moment in the sun and then faded. I do think her guardian approving this documentary was an attempt to cash in on her fame. Since her memory is going it probably will not hurt her. Not a big deal. Wendy was just greedy for fame.
I thought, at first, this was about punk rocker Wendy O. Williams who I had remembered as a suicide from years ago. After a few seconds, I remembered there was another Wendy Williams.
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.
"This is something I find interesting apart from her as a celebrity."
Hence my comment about not knowing much about her. So the rest of my pot was not colored by any impression of her celebrity life.
Putting her on display is disgusting. But I'm not clear that she is so far gone as to not be able to agree to participate if her caretakers also agree.
She definitely has stormy eyes.
Also, we know that many of you guys are virtuously virtuous and don't follow trendy celebrities and haven't had a TV Set since Adam left the Ponderosa but you don't have to signal your purity every time one pops up. It looks a little like a cry for attention. Like Demented Wendy.
And it pisses off Althouse for no good reason as opposed to the several good reasons available.
Wendy O Williams, the one time I saw her up really close was grotesque. Wendy William’s entire schtick was cheap shot gossip.
If you've never seen or heard of Wendy Williams, you've never had to wait in a medical office for a mid-morning appointment.
The court-assigned guardian for Wendy Williams failed in their attempt to prevent a revealing documentary about the former talk-show host from airing on Lifetime this weekend, according to a source familiar with the legal proceedings.
So from my limited understanding when it comes to probate cases regarding guardianship of a person who is impaired there are frequently different types of guardians. The first is the guardian who is typically a family member, or close friend, who files a petition with the court to be appointed as guardian so that that person is legally empowered to make decisions for the impaired person. There is another type of guardian that is sometimes referred to as a Guardian Ad Litem. This is usually an attorney who is unconnected with the person over whom guardianship is sought. Frequently they are local attorneys who are on a court approved list. There job is to be a neutral observer who essentially double-checks that the interests of the impaired person are being protected. I think there can also be another guardian who is an interested party but was not the first person who was appointed guardian who may seek to intervene in a specific instance or over control over the entire person and estate if they believe the original guardian is making decisions contrary the interests of the impaired person.
It is not clear which guardian or type of guardian was seeking to stop this show from airing. Based on the trailer for the show it sounds like there is a possibility someone or some people may have been depleting Wendy William's estate. It also sounds like she may need the money, especially considering how young she is and the amount of long-term care she might need in the future. Given the fact that the family members who appeared in the trailer, her children and her sister, spoke critically of the guardianship system, my guess is that they are not the first type of guardian who is court appointed to watch over her person and estate, and they may be worried that whoever is is running through her money.
I blogged about her once before, when a NYT fashion writer characterized her as a "female female impersonator."
Well from the trailer, apparently her fans felt she came across and authentic and genuine. I suppose this is similar to the dichotomy with Trump, where his fans feel like he is authentic and genuine and his detractors feel like he is a manipulative liar.
Wait, Adam left the Ponderosa? (Now which one was Adam?)
Anyway, I don't know anything about most trendy celebrities beyond what I learn here, but I'm familiar with dementia.
Always looking for a connection, I am.
Who knew i would get started with Wendy Williams and end up watching Phyllis Diller dancing a waltz with Liberace.

Her bug-out eyes are from Graves Disease. I believe Marty Feldman (don't respond 30 times about how you don't know who Marty Feldman is) had the same. It's a unique look.
From what I know of Wendy Williams, she absolutely would have approved this documentary. As a fame whore, there is no such thing as exploitation. This is just another headline.
I hope this movie provides sufficient funds to keep her comfortable as she descends further into this disease. I am sorry for her.
"Wait, Adam left the Ponderosa?"
It was in all the papers. I think he got his MD and went on to practice medicine.

Adam Cartwright supposedly went to Harvard, but I kind of doubt it, because he never slipped that fact into the first 2 minutes of every conversation.

Ponderosa. Ponderosa. Oh yeah, that was that old TV western with that big fat guy wasn't it. Very popular with the masses...
Never watched it.
It's just like Jill Biden exploiting HER Dementia patient so that her grifting family can stay in luxury at taxpayer expense in the WH and the many vacation homes they get to occupy.
I was trying to figure out if she was Wendy O Williams, in which case I might have been interested.
Yeah, same here. I had some vivid memories of the other Wendy Williams.
Not at all the same individual.
