"Kids Get Schooled on Radical Politics/Students at a public elementary school in Brooklyn are learning revolutionary theory from a Black Lives Matter coloring book."
I don't see "transgender affirming" ideology in the question "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?" The question strongly implies that you can do what you want regardless of gender and that it is ignorant to associate preferences and interests with gender. That undercuts those who think that that they have an inward gender that is different from their physical bodily sex. It seems to me that it is encouraging kids to see themselves and others as individuals with whatever feelings and behavior they happen to have. It seems to be attacking the motivation to take the transgender route.

Respectfully Ann, how YOU see the question is not germane here. How does an impressionable grade schooler see it?
Serious Question.. Why is religion being taught in schools?
What is next? The Ten Commandments? The Satanic Bible? The Protocols of the Elders of Zion?
Maybe Das Kapital? or Mein Kampf?
This is reason #101 why my grandchildren can't go to public schools.
Should ask "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do or say based on what what gender that person claims to have at that moment?"
Ann, you are being too precise and literal.
That passage is about conditioning little kids to think they can switch sexes.
In any event, stuff like that has no place in an educational institution. The BLM principles? Is one of them to grift money from guilty white liberals and then buy real estate? Is the Catholic Baltimore Catechism taught in public schools?
"That undercuts those who think that that they have an inward gender that is different from their physical bodily sex."
If logic were involved, sure.
"It seems to me that it is encouraging kids to see themselves and others as individuals with whatever feelings and behavior they happen to have."
Except that some feelings are more legit than others. Ignore the actual lesson at your own risk, kids.
Communism, or at least anti-establishment identities from black activists, dates back to the 1960s at minimum. Also see the sudden appearance of black Muslim names such as the athletes Mohammad Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This is news only if you didn't know about it.
IMO the mainstream rise of transgenderism has two causes: (1) Obamacare and insurance coverage to pay for what was previously a tiny tiny tiny niche interest, and (2) A logical outgrowth of troubled children raised in an online culture of anonymity and roleplaying. "I wanna be a doctor or astronaut" morphed into "I wanna be a boy/girl." And doctor$ get paid to indulge myopic impulses. The actual science on sex and gender puts huge weight on biological determinism -- human female behavior resembles all female mammal behavior. Human male behavior resembles all male mammal behavior. This is news to no one with a pet cat or dog, nor anyone who's been to a zoo.
If the section is called "Transgender Affirming" then it seems far more likely that its critics chose a bad example than that it's not actually transgender affirming.
That said, the black community tends to be socially conservative, so if they are true to the values of black history month as they claim, then they will not be supportive of "gender-affirming care."
So the assignment to read "When Aidan Became a Brother" was not proselytizing for the insanity that is transgenderism?
What precedes the questions about gender? A book that defines gender. The table is already set.
The corrupt communists are winning.
RSM and wildchicken have discovered that . . . wait for it . . . the Civil Rights Movement was . . . wait for it, it gets worse . . . political!
Those people actually planned what they did! And used clever tactics!
And won.
I think it's more to the point that they have to read the transgender book and then answer the question. No the question itself is not necessarily offensive or grooming. But when paired with first pushing the ideology on little elementary children, it is highly inappropriate. I don't understand why you elide the context here but are firm on context mattering elsewhere.
Why do they have to push sexual transition on children at all? The sane answer is they don't. But they keep doing it. So rather than focusing on an anodyne question like a lawyer, let's approach the whole situation in context. I'm 100% in favor of keeping creepy tranny bullshit out of the classroom and the more these creeps push it the more I believe it should be enforced by any means necessary K thru 12 and maybe up through college.
'How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?'"
That question underscores the inherent inconsistency with transgender ideology. No normal person would tell a woman that she can't wear pants, drive a pickup truck, watch football or work in construction. Transgender ideology is built on retrograde sexism.
That question would give a child the sense that they should be outraged about something.
The real question is why are they talking about this and coloring at the Brooklyn elementary school? Are all the students reading at grade-level?
What if they finally come to their senses and realize that this subject matter is AGE INAPPROPRIATE?
These fucking people.
'How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?'"
That question undercuts transgender ideology because of the nature of the ideology. No normal person says that a woman can't wear pants, drive a pickup truck, watch football or work in construction. Transgender ideology is built on a retrograde sexism.
That question would give a child the sense that they should be outraged about something.
The real question is why they are talking about this and coloring at that Brooklyn elementary school. Are all students reading at grade-level?
Of course you're right, comrade. Black Lives Matter are not Marxists, and are just "encouraging kids to see themselves and others as individuals."

You are starting from the assumption that the trans affirming ask this question from the frame that preferences and interests are gender neutral. If you start from the frame that preferences and interests aka feelings are the way in which your gender identity is revealed (because what else is there to work from?) then it's just as easy to introduce the concept that you can resolve the conflicting feelings by changing your outward presentation to match your inward gender.
"Radical politics?" Reading through the allegedly "revolutionary politics and communist terms" (sic) of BLACK LIVES MATTER'S "13 Principals" read like an elaboration on the Golden Rule and standard practices of tolerance, respect, and empathy for others.
"Serious Question.. Why is religion being taught in schools?"
What religion is that?
"Children at a Brooklyn public elementary school are being taught revolutionary politics and communist terms from a Black Lives Matter coloring book..."
"Public elementary school"? The government goes to great pains to keep the public from finding out what goes on there. "Government elementary school" is a more accurate description.
Should ask "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do or say based on what what gender that person claims to have at that moment?"
Or even better, "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do or say based on what what race/religion you are?"
See the Amy Wax/U. Penn. Carey Law School affair for context.
KINDERGARTEN Dr. Althouse. Come on.
"No normal person would tell a woman that she can't wear pants, drive a pickup truck, watch football or work in construction."
There was a time in our country when pretty much all of the above (excluding, maybe, women watching football) would have been frowned on or prohibited.
"'Public elementary school?' The government goes to great pains to keep the public from finding out what goes on there. 'Government elementary school' is a more accurate description."
Ooooh...SCARY! Uh...all US public schools are and have always been "government" schools, as all Americans have also always been aware of.
“Some of the exercises, parents said, appear innocuous; a page about 'Restorative Justice,' for example, asks students: 'Why is it important to offer to forgive someone?'”
Restorative Justice is not about forgiving someone. It is about not punishing the person for a crime he/she committed.
“'Transgender Affirming,' instructs students to read the book When Aidan Became a Brother about a girl who transitions to a boy, and then answer questions on a worksheet like, 'How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?'"
I don't see "transgender affirming" ideology in the question "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?"”
You are misinterpreting the question. Do you really believe that they assigned the book so that they can teach that transgenderism is wrong? More importantly, why would they address the issue of transgenderism with elementary school students. That subject does not belong in the school curriculum. A teacher who has zero knowledge of the student outside of the school should not be allowed to interfere with how the student’s parents bring up their child.
My comment above (1010am) was meant for the previous thread.
Stupid computer.
When my daughter (now in 5th grade) was in kindergarten in a Seattle public school, she too had this book as an activity. The other commenters are correct to note that the question you highlight can't be understood in isolation. The book "I am Jazz," the children's book describing Jazz Jenning's experience, was also a part of the curriculum. In the book, we're told that Jazz knew she was trans because she "liked high heels and princess gowns and cartwheels" and "hardly ever played with trucks or tools" so she has a "girl brain in a boy's body."
So they've been primed that the answer to "How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?" isn't "Celebrate being a tomboy!"
But the most insane part of the coloring book was the page on "Black Villages." "We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement..."

Hey, 5th graders:
"We cultivate empathy by seeking understanding and engaging comrades with the intent to learn about and connect with their contexts."
Two quick hits from the Cook:
There was a time in our country when pretty much all of the above (excluding, maybe, women watching football) would have been frowned on or prohibited.
Yeah they made cool edgy movies about it in the 1940s.
Ooooh...SCARY! Uh...all US public schools are and have always been "government" schools, as all Americans have also always been aware of.
But now they are so much more government and not so much schools at all, which is why children can't read, write or do math at grade level. At what point do you admit that this stupid black commie/tranny bullshit has no place pushing all the education out of what used to "Public Education"?
serious questions (that don't seem to be related to this post, but Truly ARE)..
What percentage of young adults are currently on psychotic medications?
What percentage of young children are currently on psychotic medications?
Of the parents of trans children, And those trans children themselves..
What percentage of parent are currently on psychotic medications?
What percentage of young children are currently on psychotic medications?
How does ingestion of psychotic medications affect a person's gullibility towards Marxist things like BLM?
but WAIT! there's MORE!!
how much synthetic female hormones are in our water supplies because of the HUGE number of women taking oral contraceptives? HOW do these synthetic female hormones affect males (AND females?)?
Am i implying that ALL THIS is a vast commie conspiracy to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids?
i'm Not implying ANYTHING of the sort.. I m EXPLICITLY STATING it.
Foreign substances are introduced into our precious bodily fluids, without the knowledge of the individual, certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.
"I don't see 'transgender affirming' ideology in the question 'How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?'"
OK: "in the question."
How about the part just above it: In a section called 'Transgender Affirming,' students are told to read the book "When Aidan Became a Brother about a girl who transitions to a boy. . . ."
Might a section titled gender affirming with required reading about transgender topics provide context clues?
And for Kindergarden-aged kids?
"Ooooh...SCARY! Uh...all US public schools are and have always been "government" schools, as all Americans have also always been aware of."
Fifty or a hundred years ago, they were schools in the sense that most normal people (not progressive assholes, of course) understood them, that taught reading, writing and arithmetic. Now, they pretty much ignore the reading, writing and arithmetic. How many fewer children are preforming at grade level these days than a half century ago? There are articles regularly written on the topic. You could even look it up if you were interested, which you won't be. Instead, the focus is on political indoctrination and sexualizing young children, which you will be more interested in. Many (most?) parents don't want that, but if they complain about it, they're called "domestic terrorists" by those same progressive assholes who put so much effort into keeping parents from knowing what goes on in those government schools. But... hey! Scary! Right?
Robot Cook. “Ooooh...SCARY! Uh...all US public schools are and have always been "government" schools, as all Americans have also always been aware of.” What is really scary is that said government schools produce this. 12% of Black males are proficient in reading by 8th grade So, yeah, let’s focus on social justice
I am really not sure why that Free Press story would lead Ann to focus on the transgender statement about "how do you feel. . ." etc. in the context of what the story makes clear about the outrageous leftist ideology this program overall seeks to impose. For example, the principle stated as "Black Villages: Disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement.” Or the "Week of Action Demands: End Zero Tolerance; Hire Black Teachers; Mandate Black History and Ethnic Studies; Fund Counselors Not Cops." Sorry, but these are profoundly destructive ideas for anyone, but for low income blacks in poor neighborhoods in particular they are deadly. Of course, I suppose in Park Slope, you can kid yourself about it and, along with all your "comrades," soldier on in ignorance.
Althouse:
[But another, entitled 'Transgender Affirming,' instructs students to read the book When Aidan Became a Brother about a girl who transitions to a boy, and then answer questions on a worksheet like, ]'How do you feel when someone tells you what you can or can’t do based on your gender?'"
Kind of easy query when you clip the entire [bracketed] preceding portion of the sentence - sentence, not paragaph - which explicitly answers your question with "another, entitled 'Transgender Affirming,'" exercise.
Also, affirmation is not "you can or can't do". It's "I will or will not agree". Huge difference.
ForestGirl:
In the book, we're told that Jazz knew she [Jazz Jennings] was trans because she "liked high heels and princess gowns and cartwheels" and "hardly ever played with trucks or tools" so she has a "girl brain in a boy's body."
And how exactly did that work out? Did the book follow up all the way?
Sex and sex-correlated gender have a limited scope in human affairs. Transgender ideology should not be considered until after puberty and should not be advocated until the individual can offer informed consent.
"Blogger Robert Cook said...
"Serious Question.. Why is religion being taught in schools?"
What religion is that?"
Yours - Communism.
Girls, with limited exceptions, have always had the right and opportunity to expand their horizons. The limit of their freedom was largely self-imposed through a reconciliation of rights, responsibilities, and personal preferences.
Public education used to imply local control over the curriculum and teaching methods. What has changed is not merely the control exerted over schools by the federal and state governments, but more importantly (IMO) that the teachers no claim the right to decide what should be taught, up to an including what set of political/social/moral beliefs students should be indoctrinated in. The term "government schools" is more accurate than "public schools," but "taxpayer-funded indoctrination centers" would be a far more accurate label for what we now have.
Hey. If you hate your kids, send them to school. If they don't end up mutilated, perverted and insane, they'll still be unemployable. Pretty fucking obvious, at this juncture.
Kindergarten???? come one.
“Respectfully Ann, how YOU see the question is not germane here. How does an impressionable grade schooler see it?“
Read the book, “When Aiden Became a Big Brother.” There will be zero difficulty connecting the dots between the transgender ideology and the question. What appears to be an innocent, “don’t tell me I can’t because I’m a girl/boy” quickly turns into “this is how a girl/boy behaves.” The little girl in the story HATES wearing dresses, ergo, she must really be a boy. She cuts off her long hair, so she can’t be a girl. She wants to run and jump and play outside, therefore, wrong body, she’s a boy.
Groomer porn for incel Trumpians like Drag-o
Here's the teacher's guide to the "What We Believe" coloring book.
It's an indoctrination program for grammar school children. And Kindergartens.
Did you ever notice the number of Playboy Centerfolds who claimed to be tomboys growing up?
Fortunately for 13 year old me they chose not to go under the knife.
"Ooooh...SCARY! Uh...all US public schools are and have always been "government" schools, as all Americans have also always been aware of."
If "everybody knows", why are they not called "government" schools by the people running them? Every POS progressive knows why but will never say it out loud.
OK children, turn to page 12 in your Imposing Transgenerational Racial Guilt and Stereotyping Those who Oppose Mutilating Children with Drugs and Radical Surgery workbooks.
When I was in 4th grade I read a book about baseball. A French kid moved to the US. He learned the game quickly. Then one day, in the big game a ball went past 3rd fair and then went foul. The French kid didnt understand it was a playable ball. He just kept yelling, "Foul, Foul, foul,", and they lost the game.
To think all these years later I never knew if he sucked cock or not.
Can't wait for February to be over and the onslaught of 'blackness' eases from a firehose to a mere gusher.
Home-school your kids at any cost or the socialist state will surely turn them into little fascists.
You will lose your children to the hive mind.
"If 'everybody knows,' why are they not called 'government' schools by the people running them? Every POS progressive knows why but will never say it out loud."
They are called "goverment" schools, using the comparable term "public." As far as I ever been aware, they have always been called that, and not devised recently as a deception by "the people running them."
Why do people say "ice" and "snow" instead of "frozen water?" Is there a plot to conceal the physical nature of ice and snow from stupid people, or that ice and snow are two forms of the same thing? (Is this, in fact, news to you that ice and snow are each forms of frozen water?)
Richard at 12:55 pm:
BUZZZZZZZZ!!!!!
Wrong on all points! You don't get any points for participation if your answers are incorrect.
'What religion is that?"
Yours - Communism.'
To be fair, 'Socialism' or 'Marxism are also acceptable.
: )
Google sez: At Ps 321 William Penn, 79% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 82% scored at or above that level for reading.
Better than a lot of other schools, but give it time, with the curriculum moving to gender affirmation rather than continuing to teach reading and math. And to those who say, "Why not both?" I say, "Hahahahahahaha." There are still almost 20% who can't read right.
They are called "goverment" schools, using the comparable term "public."
If they're called "public" schools, they are not being called "government" schools, then. On that, we agree. Again, why not? "Government schools" is more accurate, as "public" has other meanings aside from being related to the government.
You're not opposed to accurately describing things, are you?
Can't wait for February to be over and the onslaught of 'blackness' eases from a firehose to a mere gusher.
No shit. Enjoy the two-month reprieve before we hit June.

Ironically. Without capitalism, communism is worthless.

For example, get pregnant?
Pierre, and Marie Curie, and Henri Becquerel won the Nobel prize for contributions to the study of certain radiation effects.
To think all these years later I never knew if they were a Thrupple.
"The kindergarten through fifth grade school in Park Slope—supplied students with the coloring book, What We Believe, as part of a lesson for Black History Month."
This is what Heinlein believed.
"I believe in my neighbors.
I know their faults and I know that their virtues far outweigh their faults. Take Father Michael down our road a piece –I’m not of his creed, but I know the goodness and charity and loving kindness that shine in his daily actions. I believe in Father Mike; if I’m in trouble, I’ll go to him. My next-door neighbor is a veterinary doctor. Doc will get out of bed after a hard day to help a stray cat. No fee — no prospect of a fee. I believe in Doc.
I believe in my townspeople. You can knock on any door in our town say, ‘I’m hungry,’ and you will be fed. Our town is no exception; I’ve found the same ready charity everywhere. For the one who says, ‘To heck with you — I got mine,’ there are a hundred, a thousand, who will say, ‘Sure, pal, sit down.’
I know that, despite all warnings against hitchhikers, I can step to the highway, thumb for a ride and in a few minutes a car or a truck will stop and someone will say, ‘Climb in, Mac. How how far you going?’
I believe in my fellow citizens. Our headlines are splashed with crime, yet for every criminal there are 10,000 honest decent kindly men. If it were not so, no child would live to grow up, business could not go on from day to day. Decency is not news; it is buried in the obituaries –but it is a force stronger than crime.
I believe in the patient gallantry of nurses…in the tedious sacrifices of teachers. I believe in the unseen and unending fight against desperate odds that goes on quietly in almost every home in the land.
I believe in the honest craft of workmen. Take a look around you. There never were enough bosses to check up on all that work. From Independence Hall to the Grand Coulee Dam, these things were built level and square by craftsmen who were honest in their bones.
I believe that almost all politicians are honest. For every bribed alderman there are hundreds of politicians, low paid or not paid at all, doing their level best without thanks or glory to make our system work. If this were not true, we would never have gotten past the thirteen colonies.
I believe in Rodger Young. You and I are free today because of endless unnamed heroes from Valley Forge to the Yalu River.”
“I believe in — I am proud to belong to — the United States. Despite shortcomings, from lynchings to bad faith in high places, our nation has had the most decent and kindly internal practices and foreign policies to be found anywhere in history.
And finally, I believe in my whole race. Yellow, white, black, red, brown –in the honesty, courage, intelligence, durability….and goodness…..of the overwhelming majority of my brothers and sisters everywhere on this planet. I am proud to be a human being. I believe that we have come this far by the skin of our teeth, that we always make it just by the skin of our teeth –but that we will always make it….survive….endure. I believe that this hairless embryo with the aching, oversize brain case and the opposable thumb, this animal barely up from the apes, will endure –will endure longer than his home planet, will spread out to the other planets, to the stars, and beyond, carrying with him his honesty, his insatiable curiosity, his unlimited courage –and his noble essential decency.
This I believe with all my heart." RAH.
It is funny how it is impossible to recall any coloring book pages from way back in grade school and only those folks with kids in elementary school even know what pages kids color today. But one thing is for sure. Any art class that covers BLM does not make any sense when the subject is designed to teach colors, improve motor skills, develop creativity, and manual hand-to-eye coordination.
Socialism. The gift that keeps on failing.
"If they're called 'public' schools, they are not being called 'government' schools, then. On that, we agree. Again, why not? 'Government schools' is more accurate, as 'public' has other meanings aside from being related to the government."
So, I gather you did not previously know "snow" and "ice" were each terms for forms of the same thing, ("frozen water"). Noted. Just because you didn't know does not mean other people are similarly ignorant (or that anyone was keeping that information secret from you).
'No shit. Enjoy the two-month reprieve before we hit June.'
And then it will be 'All Fabulous All the Time.'
Sending your kids to public school in child abuse.
