"Americans who test positive for the coronavirus no longer need to routinely stay home from work and school for five days..."

"... under new guidance planned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.... 'Public health has to be realistic,' said Michael T. Osterholm, an infectious-disease expert at the University of Minnesota. 'In making recommendations to the public today, we have to try to get the most out of what people are willing to do.… You can be absolutely right in the science and yet accomplish nothing because no one will listen to you.' The CDC plans to recommend that people who test positive for the coronavirus use clinical symptoms to determine when to end isolation.... The plan to further loosen isolation guidance when the science around infectiousness has not changed is likely to prompt strong negative reaction from vulnerable groups...."

Might also get a strong negative reaction from people who've thought for a long time that the restrictions were not realistic.

Last week I told the University of Nebraska Regents that UNMC and the College of Public Health were both completely wrong when they wrote, in the Fall of 2021, that school kids had to be masked.

UNMC and the College of Public Health had one job and they got it completely wrong.

I then asked that both CEOs be fired and that the College of Public Health's budget be radically reduced.

I also told the Regents that the US Navy regularly fires captains for "loss of confidence." Last year, 14 were relieved of duty.

But nothing will happen. There's NEVER any accountability on the Left.

Now that the high priests of public health have burned the last shreds of their credibility, they want us to care what they say?

"the science" is now nothing more than a liberal, generic platitude.

Follow "the money" will get you closer to the truth in less time than follow "the science".

Maybe nobody listens because you're full of shit and lied over and over. Some of us just caught on to the lies early on. Others after the first two clot shots...when they realized they didn't want the boosters.

Except Travis Kelce of course.

Many of us recognized more than the restrictions were not realistic.

Bat soup vs lab leak for example. Safe and effective clot shots. People in hospice being classified as a "COVID death".

No other group bought into a pushed COVID restrictions like America's "educators". An amazing, fucked up group of people.

I don't remember where Osterholm was on all of this even just three years ago (from the rest of his comment, it appears that he is still a lunatic, but a resigned one), but perhaps some lunatics have finally given up the ghost on this issue.

Bayesian statistics say doing the opposite of what the CDC says is the best course of action.

From the bottom of the WaPoo article:

New covid variant: The United States is in the throes of another covid-19 uptick and coronavirus samples detected in wastewater suggests infections could be as rampant as they were last winter. JN.1, the new dominant variant, appears to be especially adept at infecting those who have been vaccinated or previously infected. Here’s how this covid surge compares with earlier spikes.

And just below that:

New coronavirus booster: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that anyone 6 months or older get an updated coronavirus shot ...

If they don't read their own bollocks, why should we?

(Also, the word "uptick", unanimously imposed upon us by the same knuckleheads that got merely everything wrong about Mao Tse Lung, is a pox upon the English language.)

Well, another change. (Looks at Worldometers - we're coming down off another Covid spike. Peaked at about 27k/day reported infections, 164 worst day deaths with/from Covid.)

CDC tossed out a lot of 'settled science' when Covid came around - remember the 6 foot rule? "It sounded good." How about one-way in stores? Like any airborne contagion cared what direction the people were going, just where the air currents were going. Like masking - Fauci admitted they wouldn't work for the public at large, but on an individual basis they did. (N95s somewhat work, but unless they were painfully tight they didn't do much.)

https://news.yahoo.com/covid-6ft-distancing-guidance-probably-171817602.html
https://www.newsweek.com/anthony-fauci-mask-admission-backlash-coronavirus-1824364

We're at a point where it's endemic, and it's mutated to be less lethal than the flu. I'm not surprised they've changed guidance again.

The CDC plans to recommend that people who test positive for the coronavirus use clinical symptoms to determine when to end isolation....

Oh, so like the flu?

The plan to further loosen isolation guidance when the science around infectiousness has not changed is likely to prompt strong negative reaction from vulnerable groups....

Considering that the groups most vulnerable to serious COVID are the same groups most vulnerable to the flu, and the protocol for staying home with the flu has always been fever - yes, no fever - no unless your other symptoms are gross or making you miserable, those vulnerable people have always known that they have to take responsibility for whether or not they choose to expose themselves by going out in public to crowded places... I think the groups most likely to have a strong negative reaction are the ones who have continued to wear masks while taking their dogs for walks, who have urged vaccination of children, and who have badgered their workplaces to make everyone work from home.

Hassayamper said...

Won't most of the resistance come from healthy left-wing maskholes with a deep psychological need to engage in smug, performative, public moral preening to demonstrate their superiority over the deplorables, versus how much will truly be from vulnerable populations who can self-isolate as they always have before Covid came along?

boatbuilder said...

Yep. Strong negative reaction here.

Osterholm was a person recommended to my wife to listen to very early on in the "crisis" as someone who knew about infectious diseases. We listened together and he seemed to be relatively level-headed about the whole process--indeed, he said things like "young people are not really much at risk, and should be exposed to develop herd immunity," and that we should strive to get things back to "normal" as soon as reasonably possible.

Then something changed--he began railing about the alleged lack of "leadership" from the Trump Administration (without providing any recommendations about what, exactly, the Administration ought to do), and then Lo and Behold he's on the WaPo editorial page doing the same thing.

A political hack.

What science? There were scientists saying things, but I am doubtful there was much science in their COVID pronouncements. This was understandable early on when we were not sure what we were dealing with, but even then it appears Fauci and company were spewing whatever BS served their personal and political needs. They did not even feel it necessary to actually, you know, do any actual studies to see if their proclamations might be incorrect.

So, has there been any actual studies to see how long COVID remains contagious after the primary symptoms have dissipated?

I was at the VA hospital in San Juan today. They now have new signs saying masks are required.

They have a mask dispenser at the front entrance.

So inspiring to see my main medical caregiver putting superstition over science.

On the plus side, nobody asked me to put one on. I didn't. Only about half the staff were wearing masks and perhaps 20% of customers (as VA calls us)

I have no idea the purpose of the signs.

This time they started the pitch, I said no thanks, they said OK and gave up.

Well, actually, no. When the "science" involves how to manage a communicable disease, the fact that no one will listen to you is an indication that you are not doing it right.

Aggie said...

I was listening to the version of this being spewed by NPR on the way home. The public health expert from the CDC tried to play it as 'we've learned so much from the pandemic that, instead of putting COVID into the category of flu when it comes to public health measures, we really ought to be trying to make flu more like COVID, by encouraging social distancing, proactive masking, mandated flu shots etc etc ad nauseam.

That's funny, I remember the COVID panic-pandemic as being a set of phony imposed public health rules that were clearly not helpful to public health, but absolutely instrumental in making sure that lots of people could vote using absentee and mail-in ballots. That was the singular achievement of COVID, and the CDC was at the forefront of it.

Jupiter said...

"... no longer need to ...".

So, we used to need to, but we don't any longer. Because The Science has changed. It turns out humans no longer breathe, or something. Anyway, they were right then, and they're still right now. It's just that the way they are right is 100% different. That will happen with Science.

Wow, boss level minimization.

We know in February of 2020 by the experiences in Northern Italy, that people over 70 were very susceptible to the wu flu. We continued to learn, and add, to the list of Co-morbidities obesity, diabetes, imuno-suppressed, etc.

Yet, here we are 4 years later, and "experts" still won't just publish the list.

In my Boston suburb the School committee is bleating about how many more Special Needs students there are as a result of covid.

Seems two years of either sitting in school wearing suffocating masks, or being forced to stay home and learn nothing, has made the kids emotionally frail and incapable of learning.

So naturally the Town says it needs more money for more Special Ed services-----to which I say....WTF!!!????.

It was the School Board and the nefarious Teachers Union that unnecessarily kept the kids out of school in the first place! THEY committed shocking full-frontal incompetence. THEY harmed the kids.

THEY should pony up the extra cash for the problems THEY caused.

But that's how Progs roll....they never admit their "solutions" create even larger problems.
