I'm seeing phrase "91 felony charges" is everywhere this morning. It seems those who loathe Trump don't realize how it can help Trump to stress the overabundance of charges.
But this is another article that purports to understand the Trump supporter, and it's interesting to me because it's got the college-educated going for Trump. I thought that's what isn't happening. So let's read this piece, which is based on "interviews with nearly two dozen college-educated Republican voters":
Many were incredulous over what they described as excessive and unfair legal investigations targeting the former president.
Yes! That's why the phrase "91 felony charges" stirs support for Trump. (Trump's poll numbers have "trended upward ever since" the first indictment.)
The article quotes 2 women:
1. "I know Trump’s got a lot of baggage... But so much of it is make-believe.... ... I prefer Trump because Democrats are trying to find any way they can to jail him."
2. "It’s a little bit like a teenager who’s rebelling — a part of me is like, Maybe I should go for Trump because everyone is telling me not to. Part of my thing is: Why are they so scared? Because they can’t control him."
The article cites additional reasons for supporting Trump (even while college-educated). I'm just highlighting how the "cascade of 91 felony charges" hasn't dragged him under.

Anyone who learns in college to go to primary sources is going to be sympathetic to Trump. I remember my first semester, Physics 115, when the prof said on the first day, “don’t believe anything that I say just because I say it, make me prove it to you.” Most anti-Trumpers simply accept what they are told.
I'm in that demo. I'll vote for Trump in the general because he made the economy work, kept the border closed and no wars were started on his watch. Biden's term has been a disaster and a second term would be even worse. Now I read that Iran is close to completing a nuclear weapon. That's on Biden.
I have seen a great deal of turmoil and upheaval over my lifetime. The realization from a Biden aide "that a lot of people are afraid of the American left" is an important comment from the inside.
One reason that I am more concerned this time than in the past is that neither of the two great parties of the country are now clearly committed to traditional liberalism: equality (not "equity"), the dignity of the individual, free association, free speech, universal values (without imperialism).
This is one reason why I was so pleased to read Yascha Mounk's book, "The Identity Trap," which I consider to be a key political book of the year. Mounk's defense of traditional liberal needs to be widely read and put back into practice. Mounk has presented the clearest argument thus far of how much of a challenge and a danger the illiberal left poses to American democracy.
Thus, the telling comment from one of Bide's aides. Perhaps this is starting to reach the elites as well.
There have been moments in the past where one party or the other, or a large faction of a party, veered dangerously away from these traditional values. But there was always an anchor in traditional liberalism within one of the two parties.
The threats from the Trump Republican party are the most clear and widely discussed, so I leave that aside.
The threat from the illiberal left is not as widely understood, but it is a fundamental assault on traditional liberalism. And it is critical to understand this illiberal left and its challenge because its manifestation is feeding the illiberal right.
DEI and equity programs are a disaster, and they have exploded beyond the confines of American universities. They are a full assault on the traditional liberal principle of equality, which actually is part of the American constitution, unlike equity, which is not.
The illiberal left is filled with contempt for the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, which was deeply committed to traditional liberalism. Things are not moving fast enough for the illiberal left, so more radical measures need to be put in place, from their perspective. Equality needs to be replaced by equity. Free speech needs to be done away with to protect the marginalized. Free association needs to be dismantled so that racial, ethnic, and gender "affinity groups" can build their "natural solidarity." And the dignity of the individual is constantly under threat from a new progressive collectivism that sorts the entire society into categories of oppressor and oppressed.
Yes, I still believe in America.
The discontent with the illiberal left is widespread and Mounk's book is giving the clearest voice to this yet. For the first time in a long time, but the American Left and Right need to renew themselves. The risk is that those upset about the illiberal left feel they have no political home.
I believe this is possible and necessary.
Nothing is more important to the long-term health of our republic than that the tactics being used against Trump fail, with consequences to the perpetrators. That doesn’t necessarily mean voting for Trump, but voting for Trump is the simplest, clearest way to send that message. A truth so plain even college graduates can see it.

The number of charges is important to the Left in the same way that more dollars spent is the preferred metric for how well our public school systems are doing, or not doing. Or how many gun laws we pass whether they bring down gun violence or not. (Spoiler: they don’t). Or how many boosters they tell you to get. It’s the effort that counts, not the results. They’re trying really, really hard.
I have a couple of degrees and I would have liked to see DeSantis be the nominee. I do not understand what happened to him. I will admit that the Ds have pissed me off so badly that I will happily vote for Trump both early and often should he be the nominee.

The left just doesn't realize how much that "91 charges" is doing to move people from all segments of society towards supporting Trump. From a local attorney who was a Sanders supporter in 2016 to the Hispanic clerk (previous Biden voter) at my local Dollar General store, I'm finding so many people who are now supporting Trump.
The reason stated by the attorney is the law-fare and the reason from the retail clerk is the economy. Plus, the black guys at the tire shop told my husband that Trump is now one of them and knows how it is to be targeted by the police. They also plan to vote for Trump in November.
The attorney noted how so many on the left decried over-zealous prosecutions except when it came to Trump and then they suddenly switched positions and want him jailed for every allegation of wrong-doing. He said he just couldn't support that position and the only way to stop it was to vote for Trump.
Trump is a promise breaker... and a dick-stepper... but he understands most of what works in our nation, and thus is superior to all corrupt leftists.

There's very little else the vast majority of us can do.
The writers of this season of America are absolute geniuses. The Iowa caucus was looking so predictable but they’ve shaken things up with a snowstorm and now no one knows who’s going to turn up. So glad we’ve got a whole year of this show to come.
It could be good for Trump because he has a motivated base that will help others out. His voters are likely to be the ones with trucks and snow chains. But then his polling lead may mean they don’t bother and I’m sure they’re not smart enough to think the next step ahead.
Haley too has a motivated base of anti-Trumpers whatever that means so I think she’d still be able to pull her supporters out.
I think it looks worse for DeSantis who has really worked hard on the state but only gets lukewarm support at the best of times. He has blown money and effort on an Iowa operation in a gamble to convince donors that he is viable. If his people don’t show up he’ll be facing calls to give in.

Trump is an obnoxious cad, like just about everyone else I've ever met from Queens, but he gets shit done. I lived not far from the whor-house his grandfather ran during the Klondike gold rush. He's a third-generation "get shit done" guy, and he's smart enough to work through and past the failures which are inevitable if you have the guts actually to try new business ideas.

Wasn’t it nearly 8 years ago they made a big deal about the number of “conservative” pundits that would never support Trump, and almost 4 years ago the number of intelligence officials signed the letter the story of Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. Trump spit on our allies and fawned over our enemies and another Trump administration will ruin the world order that has prevented large-scale wars for 75 years. We are living in dangerous and evil times, the outcome of which will affect humankind's destiny for hundreds or even thousands of years.
I have voted Democrat in days gone by when the alternative was clearly worse. I voted for Paul Penzone as sheriff of Maricopa County, for example, when Joe Arpaio's failure to control his deputies and jailers became a measurable drag on my property taxes. But I don't think I can do that any more. The Democratic Party must be destroyed, not just defeated. Anyone who would get in bed with those enemy scum can never again be trusted. The sooner we split the country and drive most of them out, the better.
So let's forget honesty and the rule of law and simply ignore that Trump has been racketeering his entire adult life.

C'mon, now- she seems nice.
"91 felony charges" for Trump fails to meet the now-standard maxim that we each and all commit at least 3 felony crimes per day, just going about our normal activities. Trump must be pretty clean to only have racked up 91 felony charges since becoming persona non grata to the left. That can't be much more than 1 per month, at best, for a 7 year statute of limitations. Sad!

I accept what comes out of Trump's mouth. In the legal biz we call it "admissions".
Maybe 10/7 and the Ivy League Meltdown have also reached a tipping point, causing college educated republicans to question their faith in their understanding as molded by that college education.
