"The justice department found [Andrew] Cuomo 'repeatedly subjected' women in his office to non-consensual sexual contact, ogling and gender-based nicknames...."

From "DOJ says Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed 13 women/The former governor’s lawyer says he was never interviewed" (Politico).

I read the entire article because I wanted to see what "gender-based nicknames" were regarded as sexual harassment. Names are generally gender-based. When does a nickname go wrong for being gender-based?

But the article does not tell us any particular names that crossed the line.

ADDED: It occurs to me that my puzzlement is a consequence of the present-day penchant for saying "gender" when you mean "sex." If it said Cuomo subjected women to sexualizing nicknames, I would easily understand. My mother would call me "Miss Ann" or "Suzy Q" — both gendered, neither at all sexual.

Nor will any article on this topic, lest people (voters) conclude (correctly) that these are bogus charges designed to block legitimate contenders for the Democrat nomination from challenging Joe Biden.

Hasn't at least on of the Cuomos recently been critical of Biden's fitness for office?

The justice department found [Andrew] Cuomo 'repeatedly subjected' women in his office to non-consensual sexual contact, ogling and gender-based nicknames....

Soon, nobody will capitalize Justice Department, and put the word "justice" in quotes.

The DOJ rides to Beiden’s rescue. Interesting, what will the DOJ do to Michelle when she overturns Beiden?

ogle (v.)

"to view with amorous glances or with a design to attract notice," 1680s, a cant word, probably from Low German oeglen, frequentative of oegen "look at," from oege "eye," from Proto-Germanic *augon-, from PIE root *okw- "to see." Related to Dutch ogen "to look at," from oog "eye." Related: Ogled; ogling. The noun meaning "an amorous glance" is attested from 1711; earlier it meant "an eye" (1700).

Also

gawk (v.)

"stare stupidly," 1785, American English, of uncertain origin. Perhaps [Watkins] from gaw, a survival from Middle English gowen "to stare" (c. 1200), from a Scandinavian source akin to Old Norse ga "to heed," from Proto-Germanic *gawon, from PIE *ghow-e- "to honor, revere, worship" (see favor (n.)); and altered perhaps by gawk hand (see gawky). Liberman finds this untenable and writes that its history is entangled with that of gowk "cuckoo," which is from Scandinavian, but it need not be from that word, either. Nor is French gauche (itself probably from Germanic) considered a likely source. "It is possibly another independent imitative formation with the structure g-k" (compare geek).

Seinfeld riffed on the difference between an ogler and gawker, pethaps as a prelude to legal progress of critical theories in inferential logic and projection.

Not much, just a short line from "The Great Mentioner". I didn't even take it seriously.

Then a day later this. Sheesh that was fast. The DC fascists must be scared shirtless of any choice besides Big Mike. Or Brandon if he makes it to the convention

The DoJ just sent a threatening letter to Cuomo to ensure he doesn't try to enter the race for 2024. It is probably too late for Cuomo to do so, but even the attempt itself would damage Biden.

In any case, of all the things Cuomo did wrong, this is probably the least significant. His treatment of nursing home residents in 2020 was literally murder of thousands if not 10s of thousands.

In a one-party entity like New York state it's no surprise that Democrats are now using lawfare against each other considering that it works so well. When there's no targets R targets left, well, just shoot each other right?

“'Ogling.' My God, how dare a man look at a woman longer than she wants him to look at her."

Out in public, such transitory "looking" might be easy to ignore--or not, if accompanied by hoots and catcalls or stalking--but you can understand, I hope, how such regular ogling in the workplace--from the boss--would be quite offensive and disconcerting.

Legally, thanks to academicians and hate crime activists, "gender" offenses quietly exclude heterosexual female sexist terms, and anything else done to heterosexual female or heterosexual male victims now. Your mother obviously wasn't being a sexist, but what if your boss called you those names?

This obviously makes no sense, but little else does in the worlds of gender studies and hate crime enforcement. The latter exclusion can only be proven by an absence of prosecutions, which is a lot of work, but I did it for several years and the results were damning. This is precisely how hate crime laws have eternally effed up our country, after effing up our justice system from top to bottom. Which I probably can't even say now.

From "DOJ says Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed 13 women/The former governor’s lawyer says he was never interviewed" (Politico)."

The DOJ "found". In what forum did they "find", in court? Did they "find" that he committed a crime? then why was he not charged? If they did not "find" he committed a crime in court, then why did they not say the magic "alleged". Is this defamation?

Can the DOJ find that someone did something and publicize it, imputing it as true?

Is it true that they found that he did this without asking him any questions about it or getting his statement?

Nothing new. See Matt Taibbi's redux of the last few decades...

The Anti-Democratic Movement Targeted Ralph Nader First. We Should Have Paid More Attention

"The recent ballot access challenges, political investigations, and canceled primaries are just an extension of a phenomenon we should have seen coming twenty years ago
MATT TAIBBI
JAN 26

In the summer of 2004 Theresa Amato, campaign manager of presidential candidate Ralph Nader, took out a notebook in preparation for an important phone conference.

Her candidate, Nader, had already been subject to an extraordinary — and extraordinarily underreported — campaign of litigious harassment at the hands of the Democratic Party. John Kerry told Nader he had 2,000 lawyers at his disposal and would do “everything within the law” to win. In Arizona, Nader opponents filed a 650-page challenge to his attempt to get on the ballot, forgetting social justice concerns long enough to complain that one of Nader’s petition-circulators was a felon. They demanded ten samples of Nader’s own signature, hired a forensic examiner to call others into question, and challenged residents of a homeless shelter. The Democratic state chairman, Jim Pederson, said outright, “Our first objective is to keep [Nader] off the ballot,” because “we think it distorts the entire election.”

Not really interested in this story, but isn't 'Suzy Q' kind of open to negative interpretation due to the old 60's song and its suggestive lyrics?

Not that I'm trying to suggest our host's mother was trying to be sexual by calling her Suzy Q, btw. I was just thinking of the old song and the nickname in general.
