"Biden furiously denounced... Trump’s habit of joking about the... intruder who attacked Paul Pelosi... with a hammer, saying: 'And he thinks that’s funny. He laughed about it. What a sick – .'"

"He halted. At the last moment, the president of the United States had saved himself from uttering a profanity. The urge coursed through his body and found relief in his hands, which clenched into fists, as the crowd filled in with laughter and whooping. 'My God,' Biden said. 'I think it’s despicable, seriously, not just for a president but for any person to say that.'... He mused: 'Sometimes I’m really happy the Irish in me can’t be seen.'... Democrats are often criticised for pulling their punches and refusing to fight dirty as Republicans do. For as long as Trump has been on the political scene, they have wrestled with the question of whether to rise above him or roll in the dirt with him. In 2018, the former attorney general Eric Holder declared: 'When they go low, we kick ’em. That’s what this new Democratic party is about.'... Voters will surely demand not only vivid Trump-bashing but a positive vision for a second term.... But for now, one thing is clear. The gloves are off...."

Writes David Smith, in "Fired-up Biden shows gloves are off in January 6 anniversary speech" (The Guardian).

What sort of "joking" about Paul Pelosi is Trump guilty of? Example from last September:
“We’ll stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi, who ruined San Francisco — how’s her husband doing, anybody know?” Trump said to a raucous crowd of California Republicans at a state party convention. “And she’s against building a wall at our border, even though she has a wall around her house — which obviously didn’t do a very good job.”

Is that a joke? Is it "sick"?  Was it a joke for Biden to pause after saying "What a sick..."? His audience reacted with "laughter and whooping" at the President's causing them to think the word "fuck."

Is it a microaggression to say "the Irish in me" to refer to the desire to call someone "a sick fuck."

There's a real ugliness to Biden's "Irish" kicking and punching. At least Trump pretended to empathize with the hammered husband. How's he doing? Would that he had a better wall....

I bet Irish Joe never had a fight in his life and if he did, he got his ass handed to him. People who go on and on about punching other people tend to be like that.

Also, isn't it fair to say that the Pelosis brought a lot of this on themselves by trying to cover up Paul being assaulted by an intruder? If they'd just let it play out most everyone would have forgotten it by now.

Biden has a meanness that often comes through, despite his efforts to appear as just a folksy old grandpa. I wonder if that rage that simmers below the surface (and probably manifests itself frequently in private) is a reason why his children are so messed up.

Recently, we’ve had some fun with the phrase, “our violence is speech, their speech is violence.” In reality, that attitude is reflected throughout the liberal approach to politics.

“When they go low, we go high” declared Michelle Obama after smearing Mitt Romney as a dog torturer who gave a woman cancer to save a few bucks and Joe Biden accused Republicans of wanting to reinstate slavery. “Anti-fascist” they call themselves as they embrace fascist tactics. “Protect democracy!” they shout as they use lawfare to keep their opponents off the ballot.

Does anyone believe Biden can ride his anti-Trump obsession over the next eleven months to victory, using his hackneyed righteous anger routine?

Forget Trump in November, that tells me Biden is now following a short-term, go-for-broke strategy to improve his standing in the polls to stave off his eventual backroom replacement by another Democrat before the convention.

For some sick reason - perverse curiosity, I suppose - I watched about three minutes of this speech. It was of course just another episode of Biden doing his hackneyed lame "badass Joe" schtick. The scripted shouting, the stern grimacing, the faux outrage, and yeah, the set up pause before the tacit "fuck." He was really angry with this dictatorial, democracy-killing, opponent-executing wannabe, Trump, don't ya know.

Three minutes is about all one can tolerate. Does anyone buy his tuff guy act? I'm asking you, Democrats...

WTF? GOPers have been "literally Hitler" since Truman. LBJ tagged Goldwater with a nuclear bomb. Lawfare has been used by Dems against many GOPers--DeLay, Stevens, you name it. They went after Thomas and Kavanaugh with lies and smears. The deep state hoaxed and persectuted Trump and his allies for 4 years. They staged phony impeachments and then locked up unarmed "insurrectionists."

Besides Trump, and Ron in Florida, maybe Abbott in Texas, a few people in Congress occasionally, which GOPers are "fighting" at all, let alone fighting dirty?

Biden's attitude toward Republicans has always been one of contempt. Look at his debate's with Palin and Ryan, if you're so inclined.

He's never, as far as I can tell, said a kind word about Trump. He was vicious toward McCain (lets all bow our heads) in 2008, and 2012 Romney. He only became friends with Mittens, after Mitt started attacking his fellow Republican Senators for not approving all the Biden's Cabinet and judicial picks.

Biden's not a nice guy. he's not "good ol' Joe" despite his public persona. He's called Trump a nazi, racist, fascist, insurrectionist, traitor, and criminal. He's never "pulled his punches".

And hello? He and Thug Garland and his DOJ are trying to put Trump in Jail! So how does that square with his 'Pulling his punches". Further, he's cool with state judges and Secretaries of state disqualifying trump from their ballots. He's willing to win, by any means neccessary, and doesn't give a damn about fairness or "democracy".

Sociopaths like Joe Biden have counted their whole life on the fact that honest people tend to believe what they are told, and will then tend to defend their belief. I have a close friend who works in special ed, and she says that the sociopathic kids she encounters, 1 % of the population, can really creep you out until they learn to hide it. Biden also has the narcissistic belief that whatever benefits him personally is what is best for the country, and he knows that he can’t win an election decided on the merits of his time as president vs that of Trump.

There are trillions of dollars at stake in the US election, and Democrats are no longer willing to risk fair and honest voting . They also think that the climate is at stake, if you believe that, what ethical limits will you accept on your need to win elections?

Despite Biden constantly claiming to be "Irish". Biden's father was of English descent. His mother's family trace their Irish roots back to 1850. Its not like Biden parents came over from Ireland in 1920. Although that's the way he talks.

Its just as phony has his constant talk about "Joe from Scranton" with "working class roots", when in fact his parents were solidly middle class, and so were his grandparents. Biden has been a well-to-do, powerful Senator and DC politician for 50 years.

As for being Catholic, it'd be nice to hear what Catholic teachings Biden actually follows.

There you have it. The all-purpose round-up of fuckheaded lies that came out of the TrumpWing fever swamps about the story soon after Paul Pelosi was assualted and nearly killed in his home. Funny stuff. The lies:

~ That Paul Pelosi invited the attcker in. (No, the guy broke in by breaking a glass door. Surveillance video showed it.)

~ That Paul Pelosi had a gay relationship with the guy. (No; the guy testified at the trial where he was found guilty. There was no relationship.)

~ That the crime was something other than some random maniac juiced up on hatred of then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi; the kind of hatred that guys like "Rusty" routinely traffic in. (Again, the guy testified and kept right on going with his insane conspiracy theories.)

This sort of TrumpWing garbage -- a staple of the Althouse blog comments pages -- is EXACTLY what Trump was speaking to when he REPEATED his Paul Pelosi Attack Comedy Tour.

For this blog post, Althouse, I think you might have succeeded in selecting the least offensive of Trump's several sick, witless Paul Pelosi jokes. Althouse writes "There's a real ugliness to Biden's "Irish" kicking and punching."

If the Irish government was interested in defending the Irish (which they're not, but that's another topic) they ought to have recalled Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason as a diplomatic protest against Biden's habitual defamation of the Irish character, which is especially egregious as the President's Irish ancestry is nebulous at best. Disparaging an ethnic group one is not a member of is close to racism, is it not? Granted, Biden thinks describing Irishness as being processed of barely contained rage is flattery, but stupidity is never an excuse for bigotry.

Ironically, if it came down to a Celtic dick-measuring contest, Trump would defeat Biden by a country mile. Trump is at least a half a Gael through his mother Màiri Anna Nic Leòid. (Mary Anne MacLeod in English, 'nic' is the Gaelic patronymic meaning 'daughter of') Màiri, a crofter's daughter, was born and raised in the Outer Hebrides, the stronghold of the MacLeods for 800 years, speaking only Gaelic until she was in grammar school. Biden is far more of a generalized European mongrel, with ancestry tracable to every majority Roman Catholic country in that continent.

Are you going to stand by a published assertion that the felonious assault on Paul Pelosi, resulting in grievous injury to the victim Paul Pelosi, a federal trial conviction, and state charges (where the defendant has given a confession) that carry sentences of 13 years to life, are all bogus because there had been a gay relationship between Pelosi and his assailant?

Your words:
