"I wake up in the morning and sometimes I look at myself and I give myself the finger!"

That's tweeted by RNC Research, and I guess they think this hurts Adams, but I think it's charming and cool. The NYC mayor must make difficult choices, and there's no way to make everyone happy. Mayor Adams feels your pain. This story is a trifle, but Adams's antagonists are trying to use it against him. (Here's The Washington Examiner straining to make something of it.) It's nothing. Why blog it? Because I have a tag for "the finger."

Does he pull his own finger too?

His job performance is not charming.

He probably flosses too, but who cares? He's not just a clown: he is a failed clown. They only path for his political career is to go from clown to mime.

Not a good trajectory.

Single teardrop pouring down the whitepaint.

I agree with the sentiment but his biggest antagonists are not the opposition party- the government liberals mad at him for highlighting the failures of Biden’s immigration ‘policy’ are the one’s gunning for him…

Less than a third thinks he is doing a good job.

What's the point in trying to hurt Adams. Do Republicans really think they will ever have another mayor of NYC?

The guy who said he believes NY operates on "crystal energy" and also just said one of the charms of the city is you might have a plane crash into your building? The guy who''s under investigation for doing favors for Turkey AND sexual harassment? That guy?

I don't believe it.

The poor schlub has nowhere to turn at the moment. Biden gave him the finger (re: Immigration). Commercial real estate in the dumper. Population eroding as is the tax base. The beatings will continue until the morale improves.

I had hopes for Mayor Adams, but he turned out to be inconsequential. We are mostly governed by teenagers and lightweights.

NYC is more than welcome to him.

Scrolling back through the finger makes me wonder: Is Arthur still alive?

Why is he always surrounded by Black men in suits at his press conferences? Not very inclusive. He apes the aesthetic of a rap star with a posse. That's not charming. But the finger thing was.

Why am I not surprised?

Self-depreciating humor is tricky. While it can strike a note of humility and humanization, it can also lean toward making a leader look like a sad sack crying for sympathy.

No need to use this against him, just take a look around the city if you want to find ways to tear him down. He makes DiBlasio's wife
Look competent. City is covered in immigrants, shit and garbage. Heckuva job brownie.

NYC, Chicago, Milwaukee and America's cities will continue to decline. They pick their own moronic leadership.

I'm not sure I give a shit anymore.

From time to time, he's said some things I agree with. I look at the mayor of Chicago and count my blessings.

Sadism, masochism, or defeatism? Perhaps an equitable inclusion. Either way, NYC is Democratically serviced.

Joe Smith said...

It is fairly charming and self-effacing.

That said, he's a liberal democrat so I hope he crashes and burns and takes NYC with him.

1) That Biden isn't being impeached for his lawless illegal schemes to allow illegals into our nation - is telling.

2) that RNC research focuses on a silly comment about "the finger" is also telling.

RNC = crap sandwich.

The candor of self deprecation can yield short term benefits. It only works as a novelty. NYC is going to be in trouble for quite a while. Once you've given yourself the finger, how do you escalate? Public penance? Self flagellation?

Well Mayor Adams, let's just put it this way. You're not the only person in New York giving you the finger.

The chickens are coming home to roost after all that blather about sanctuary cities, the "right" to housing in NYC etc. You're just the person under the roost with all that stuff falling on your head.

Sounds like someone could use some Stuart Smalley daily affirmations. Needless to say, we all deplore anyone giving the finger to a Black man.

He is in a job that he cannot perform due to the political contraints imposed on him by his political party, not the Republicans and not The Washington Times. Of course, the Right is going to mock him in his utter failures in governance, but since there is zero chance of ever electing another Republican as mayor, it isn't an attempt to damage Adams himself, but instead to damage the Democratic Party outside of New York. Just look at what happened to Adams just a couple of weeks after he mildly criticized the Biden Administration's handling of the illegal immigrant invasion- they indicting one of his campaign staff and started up a criminal investigation of Adams himself. The people he should be giving the finger to are members of his political party.

But where does he give himself the finger?

Just because you can identify the problem does not mean that you can implement a solution.

Now do Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson. He makes Mayor Adams seem statesmanlike. Mayor Johnson far scarier, much less competent, and total disaster as mayor.

Adams resemble nothing so much as man in over his head.
