"This was Mexican-style news coverage, a repudiation of the concept of separation of business and news."

"What I saw there was batting practice, someone dropping balls for him to hit out of the park. I think it was an embarrassment."

Joaquin Blaya, a former president of Univision, told the Washington Post, quoted in "Latino backlash grows over Donald Trump’s friendly Univision interview/Members of Congress plan to ask for a meeting with a company executive as a famous actor, a Univision founder and Latino rights advocacy groups speak out."
The pushback comes after a Nov. 7 interview with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida that was arranged with the help of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and attended by a trio of senior executives at Univision’s parent company. The interview was notable for its gracious tone, lack of follow-up questions and Trump’s assertion in the first minutes about owners of the network....
The network, which has said it has also requested an interview with President Biden, announced a new policy of preventing opposition advertising during single-candidate interviews shortly before the Trump interview aired.

Let Biden do his own interview, so we can compare how the network treats the candidates. And let's see The Washington Post give equal coverage to media giving similarly cushy coverage to Biden. The coddling of Biden — does he even do interviews? — is so widespread may be hard to see it as any kind of news at all. It's dog bites man. The cushy Trump interview is man bites dog. Front page news!

Of course, it must be terrifying to Democrats to see Trump protected within the largest Spanish-language media company.

By the way, if Trump used "Mexican-style" as a pejorative, he'd be reviled.

"Mexican style" caused an instant laugh followed by an "oops, you can't say that". The thought of a Biden interview on Univision makes it obvious he won't be the nominee.

They just don't realize yet, that most people are aware of what they are doing. The propaganda isn't working as well anymore. There WILL be a price to pay.

this IS an Outrage! Only democrats should be pitched softballs!

i wonder what Biden's current favorite icecream flavor is?

If I'm not mistaken, I think this was the interview where Trump said something about taking revenge on his political opponents - as in, this is SOP for my opponents these days - while noting that he isn't going to do that. And good ol' Jen Psaki aired the first part and left out the second, and brought out a panel or something like that to nod sagely and sorrowfully at her assertion that Trump is a big mean fascist and his supporters are too.

When Biden gives press conferences, he has a printed list, provided by his staff, with a picture and name of the "hard hitting journalist" just above the wording of their question, and in the order in which he is to call on them. I don't know if that is some racial style news coverage, but perhaps the racist WaPo can stereotype it for us.

Who would have guessed, even 10 years ago, that among the nations of North America, Mexico would be last one with freedom of the press, that the Washington Post would be outraged about it and that the US Congress would feel the need to do something about it?

When I type 'Mexican style' on my iPhone, I get pizza and chicken as follow up suggestions.

When type 'Mexican style border' on the YouTube app, I get really spicy right wing foodtage.

As I get older, I avoid spicy foodtage.

Democrats really, really get unhinged when one of their previous media outlets ( cue Elon Musks' Free Speech X ) stop following their scripted "news" agenda.

Congress critters must get involved, the other owned democrat media outlets must tut-tut.

LOL.

"The coddling of Biden — does he even do interviews? — is so widespread may be hard to see it as any kind of news at all."

Correct. Which raises a question for progs: do they view the coddling as coddling, but justified for the cause, or as not coddling at all, but rather straight reporting that keeps the focus on evil DJT?

After this week's post-Xi press conference, the absolute lack of coverage of Biden's mental decline due to his obvious dementia was amazing to me. The man held in his hand a list of reporter's names to call, in a pre-arranged order, and then after each question he very obviously held his notes up and read from them the answers to what must have been pre-arranged questions. Or more accurately, he tried to read from his notes, and wandered off into la-la land on every answer as he tried to expand on what he had read. God help us all. The press at the conference did not mention this outrage, and nobody mentioned his decline in any press reporting

That pitiable old man is maybe 6 months away from incontinence and inability to dress himself on the clinical scale of dementia severity, and 1 to 2 years from death.

So tell me again about Trump and his Univision interview, which matters not at all to the current governance of the nation. I could use a good laugh.

Not for nothing but Univision network is NOT a Mexican network as seems to be popularly believed. It is as American (US) as CBS or NBC. Founded in Te4xas, by an American. HQ in NYC. 60 US affiliates (none outside the US per Wikipedia) Owns US network and so on.

Current CEO is Wade Davis. He could be Puerto Rican but I'd bet against it. I'd bet even more strongly he is not of Mexican or Cuban heritage. Former CEO was Randy Falco. Born in the Bronx. Could be Puerto Rican or Cuban from the surname but may not be. His career was mainly at NBC.

Looking at the affiliate locations in Wikipedia, i'd be will to bet that they have more viewers of Puerto Rican background than Mexican or Cuban.

So why is there this misconception that it is a Mexican network?

Where is the Mexican connection? It seems to me, given the slightly to strongly anti-Mexico feelings held by many Americans that misconception is perpetrated to hurt Univision market share. Speaking here of feelings about the country rather than the people.

Every dollar of Univision advertising is 1 less ad dollar for NBC, Google and all the other English language media. They have an economic interest in holding Univision back.

Since Univision is HQ'd in NYC, my guess would be that it has more Puerto Ricans working for them, at all levels, than Mexican's and Cubans. But that is just a guess based on geography.

Before someone says that Univision is Mexican because it runs a lot of Mexican programming, two questions:

What percent of their programming originates in Mexico? (Or other spanish speaking countries)

PBS runs a lot of BBC and other British programming. Does that make them an English network?

PS-One of my wife's favorite Telenovelas, on the local Univision affiliate Channel 11, is made in Turkey, by Turks, in Turkish, dubbed into Spanish. Does that make Univision a Turkish network.

Mexican style? Like Lucha Libre?

Although I am fond of Ranchero music, I greatly prefer Cuban cuisine to Mexican. I also like that most Cubans I know have a clear-eyed view of the evils of Communism.

Here's the full interview.

You can like him or not, but he's the same guy he was when he came down the escalator. He hasn't lost a step despite a adding a few years and undergoing an unprecedented, continuous, disingenuous and legally abusive assault from the media, the parties and the government on his person, his business, and his family.

It's amazing how he has held up under the pressure.

Also, I kept waiting for the Nazi monster raging to break out and it never did.

Everytime the MSM talks about "comforting the afflicted, and afflicting the comfortable" or aksing "tough, hardhitting questions" its all bullshit. They only ask Rightwingers, MAGA, and Republicans tough, hardhitting questions. The D's they throw softballs to.

Anybody remember Dan Rather? he was the master of the fake tough guy reporter, who just wanted the truth, Goddamit. Sure, he'd challenge and insult Nixon, reagan, and bush. But with Carter and clinton he threw them softballs and asked questions like "Why are you so wonderful?". Big Dan the Reporter man. Mr. fake. After he got fired he reveled himself to be a partisan leftist.

One good thing about Trump is he's make it clear to boobius Americanus that the MSM Is completely Biased and leftwing. No one can see their constant insult and Gotcha questions directed at POTUS Trump and his press secretary, and watch their softball, respectful questions toward Biden press secretary, and think they are in anyway NOT DNC operatives.

They don't even get upset at Biden not holding press conferences or getting mad at them for asking even mildest challenging question.

Latino backlash? Really? Or a backlash by self appointed people who identify as Latino, parrot the Marxist line, and get money from millionaires, and try to tell hard working people from Central and South America how to think?
And which Latinos? Latinos are not a monolith. My family includes Colombianos, Mexicans, Guatamalans and Filipinos.... Even Latinos of Mexican ethnicity are not a monolithic group.

But I am happy that the WaPo got the word not to use Latinx, a word hated by most people with a Hispanic heritage.
