“More than 13,000 people in Canada were euthanized in 2022, an annual rise of 31.2 percent since 2021. In 2022, 4.1 percent of all deaths in the country were the result of euthanasia; MAID could now be listed as the nation’s fifth-leading cause of death. Nearly 45,000 people have been euthanized since 2016, when Parliament first introduced MAID legislation. This number will keep rising as stigma disappears and MAID advocates continue to push for relaxed standards. The Canadian government seems to be on board with that agenda, as it reportedly plans to make MAID available to anorexics and drug users.”

Maybe Elon Musk is on to something. I’m just saying.

Let's add some context, from the same Wikipedia article on Operation Agatha:

The searches [of Jewish settlements; see below] were resisted by large swathes of the Jewish population, many of whom were Holocaust survivors. Roadblocks were constructed [by the British] and British troops were attacked while conducting searches. Some Jews conducted lie-ins to prevent the movement of military trucks, and others publicly displayed their concentration camp tattoos to the British in order to try to elicit their sympathy. A few British soldiers exacerbated the tense atmosphere by shouting "Heil Hitler" and scrawling swastikas on walls while they conducted searches.[6]

Here's the part about those searches of Jewish settlements and other objectives:

The Chief of the Secretariat, Sir John Shaw, outlined the official objective of the operation at a press conference in Jerusalem: "Large-scale operations have been authorized to end the state of anarchy existing in Palestine [it's useful to bear in mind that Britain was notably and pretty openly anti-semitic at the time, so I'd suggest more research on this point] and to enable law-abiding citizens to pursue their normal occupations without fear of kidnapping, murder, or being blown up". [Always a goal when you're in charge of an unsettled - in the sense of chaotic - area.] Shaw believed that the British should end the existing situation by partitioning Palestine into Jewish and Arab states and then leaving [we've seen how eagerly the Palestinians have welcomed a 2-state solution over the decades] or by dismantling the Jewish Agency, which claimed administrative authority but secretly supported acts by the underground Zionist military organizations and governed without the authority. Thus, Shaw approved of the operation.[2]

Several other objectives underlay the official one such as to obtain documentary proof of the Jewish Agency's approval of sabotage operations by the Palmach and an alliance between the Haganah and the more violent Lehi (Stern Gang) and Irgun in carrying out violent acts. Another was to forestall a coup d'etat. In June, members of the Jewish Agency's Executive and the Haganah High Command had met with delegates of the Irgun and Lehi at which the latter, according to intelligence, had stated its intention of asking the Yishuv to participate in a coup "for the proclamation of a future Jewish State and the interruption of all relations with the existing Palestine Administration". [And yet it's been the Palestinians, again and again, who have either refused to come or walked away from the bargaining table.] In the wake of the "Night of the Bridges", [an operation of militant Zionists to blow up a bunch of bridges, resulting in minimal loss of life but intended to demonstrate the ability of the militant Zionists to exert control over the region] another objective was to break the military power of the Haganah. Since the Haganah had appeared to be acting in co-operation with the Lehi and Irgun, the British authorities believed mistakenly that breaking its military power was also necessary because the Haganah might co-operate with the prospective Irgun and Lehi coup. Lastly, Montgomery had stated that the operation was required to boost army morale.[2]

So - several militant Zionist movements, indeed. But not any that targeted civilians. And made up of Holocaust survivors and those who watched their coreligionists literally slaughtered for their religion. And movements that dissipated, or coalesced, into an organized and disciplined and Western-style state military once order had been achieved (more or less), and have continued to operate in such a fashion since that time.

The Crack Emcee said the Zionists did it, but when the rubber hit the road, Menachem Begin successfully led the Zionist charge to establish a Jewish state for the displaced European Jews because of hatred imposed by the Nazis in the form of the Holocaust.

Of course, if you want history we can go back 2000 years to find the dispersion of the Jews among the Gentiles after the Captivity, referred to as the Diaspora.

Now that is an idea. The UN should peacefully disperse the so-called Palestinian Refugees who don't want to be part of Israel to neighboring Arab countries with common religious preferences.

Neo explains something that I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around:

“One of the tenets of leftism is the idea that the world divides neatly into oppressed and oppressor. You are one or the other, and there’s no escaping it. What’s more, the oppressed are defined as good no matter what their behavior; there are no objective standards for judging them except their defined status as oppressed. That is why we see it said that black people cannot be racists, even when they obviously are expressing hatred towards other races. That is why the George Floyd riots were perfectly okay and the J6 defendants were evil. That is why Nick Sandmann had a face so many wanted to punch, and his harassers were protected by the press and the left.”

But why do supposedly intelligent people fall into thinking this way? Or maybe thinking is the wrong word.

One thing we might consider is cutting off Islamic funding of our universities.

These "non-profits" love money so much!

Over the last six years, the Middle East gave $4.6 billion to U.S. higher education. They are using oil money to buy access and impose Islamic ideas into young people who believe what they are told -- hate the Jews and hate Israel.

So this leftist movement to divest corporate money from Israel? How about divesting all that oil money from the Ivy League!

Saudi Arabia and Qatar alone provided $3.7 billion to higher education in the U.S.

Qatar is linked with Iran and Hamas.

Qatar specifically is linked to Cornell.

From Hamas to Qatar to Cornell to some mentally ill Asian kid who is now talking like a Hamas terrorist.

Shut down that money.

It's certainly not helping us or our country.

We do not need terrorist indoctrination camps in this country.

The countries who can sign the Abraham Accords are our friends. People who cannot are on the other side. Hamas is definitely on the other side.

The basic issue with all national/tribal conflicts is that people appeal to two incompatible 'authorities.'

First, all plants and animals exist only through environmental winner-takes-all or might-makes-right competitive battles. Evolution 101. Some species survived for millions of years, only to be taken out by a drought, disease, flood, or comet. Some tough species fall to tougher 'invasive' species when their historical rock-paper-scissors strategy provides no relevant defense. There is no consciousness nor right vs. wrong morality to consider here, just finding an environmental niche that allows continued survival.

Second, humans tend to adopt fuzzy universalistic morality systems with variable concepts of justice and an afterlife/reward system. This includes Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. They all seek to mitigate raw "unfair" competitive outcomes, but only if they and the in-group are allowed to survive or win.

When the second system slips into a genocidal first system (e.g., Romans throwing Christians to the lions, middle-ages anti-Islam Christian Crusades, German Nazism, the "From the river to the sea" version of Islam, etc.) then all players are required to adopt the first system or die. There can no longer be universal purity, just variable shades of compassion or destruction. Self-interest and competition supersede all else.

Claiming full moral authority merely reveals shallow thinking or hypocritical doublespeak.

What makes you think their neighboring countries want them? I’ve been a tourist in Egypt; our guide was candid about how terrifying it had been to be an ordinary Egyptian citizen in the time of of the Muslim Brotherhood. Why would the citizenry want more hard core terrorists living among them? It’s not as though Hamas has made life better for the people living in Gaza. Women raise their sons, not to be teachers or doctors or successful merchants, but instead to die as glorious martyrs. Good on the IDF for helping them to their martyrdom.

Instapundit links to an article about 147 women, described as "feminist scholars" who are "demanding an end to Israel’s genocide and occupation in Gaza" and the scholars go on to say that "they oppose all uses of pinkwashing, or the coopting of the LGBTQ rights movement, as well as Israel’s cynical employment of feminist language to cover up or justify its military atrocities."

So feminist scholars have no pity -- none at all -- for the young Israeli women raped and murdered on October 7th, reserving their sympathy for their Hamas rapists. Seems similar to how modern feminists have sympathy for young biological males who bounce into women's locker rooms and wag their male organs at young women while saying "Oh, by the way, I'm trans." (A half hour later they'll of course be male again.) And evincing no sympathy for the young women forced to sit through this display.

So tell me, Althouse, is this just a case of elderly biddies jealous of the younger women's youth and attractiveness? Or has feminism always been a grift to get a piece of the affirmative action pie for underqualified females and has never been about the needs and concerns of women as a whole?
