"My decades of experience in the region taught me that Palestinian and Israeli parents may say different prayers at worship but they share the same hopes for their kids—just like Americans, just like parents everywhere."

"That is why I am convinced Hamas must go.... Hamas does not speak for the Palestinian people...."

Clinton begins with an account of her brokering a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas back in 2012, a cease-fire that Hamas violated in 2014. Now, she tells us: "Cease-fires freeze conflicts rather than resolve them.... Cease-fires can make it possible to pursue negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting peace, but only when the timing and balance of forces are right."

She wants change not only in Gaza, but also in Israel: "Going forward, Israel needs a new strategy and new leadership. Instead of the current ultra-right-wing government, it will need a government of national unity that’s rooted in the center of Israeli politics and can make the hard choices ahead...."

ADDED: The first 2 sentences are too rich not to quote: "One morning in November 2012, I knocked on the door of President Barack Obama’s suite in the Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, so early that he was barely out of bed. I had an urgent question that could not wait for the president to finish his morning coffee: Should we try to broker a cease-fire in Gaza?"

Can't he just sip his Raffles coffee?

AND: That last question references this: "At diner, Obama brushes off question on Hamas. Says, 'Why can’t I just eat my waffle?'"

Yes, Obama's famous "Why can’t I just eat my waffle?" was a reaction to a question about Hamas.

The nearest fiction analogue to Hillary is Tracy Flick from the film Election. The annoying, unself-aware ambition, obsessive, social climbing, backstabbing Tracy Flick.

This story fits so perfectly with that image of her personality. The cloying, almost-slightly-aspergers intensity of a person that just cannot wait browbeat yet another man until he sees her point of view and grudingly allows her to run whichever train she's in charge of into a brick wall.

No she can't. She has something important to say, and dammit you're going to hear about right effing now.

That’s just mush from Hillary. Israeli schools don’t teach math by asking children “if there are 5 Palestinians and 3 blow up then how many Palestinians are left to kill?” Israeli mothers don’t have “martyrdom” as the highest aspiration for their children. And there are no crowds of Israeli students cheering the news of Palestinian babies being beheaded or baked in ovens.

It’s a bummer to hear both-sides bullshit, even phrased aspirationally by her, because she has up until now provided much more moral clarity than anyone in the current administration. I’m sure she still supports Israel’s right to prosecute this war but we need to be honest about the culture of death that suffuses the Islamic world and Gaza in particular.

I also thoroughly dislike our “leaders” meddling in Israeli elections and politics and it’s disgusting to hear Hillary complain about it in this context. If the Mossad was not working so hard on opposing Netanyahu on October 6 then maybe they would have been paying attention to what was happening in Gaza to prepare for the 7th. So similar to our own situation with the FBI letting pedophiles go free in order to redirect all their resources chasing down peaceful J6 protesters.

I don't know if that is a fair characterization of what Hillary's message was. Her message has been stronger support from Israel than what we've seen from the Biden Administration. She clearly states Hamas has to go, and she seems to suggest that calls for a cease-fire aren't appropriate right now and would not lead to any progress. Yeah she says she doesn't like Netanyahu, but her reference to ultra-right in Israel probably is also meant to include the Haredi, who from my understanding, very few in Israel are fond of, since they are the group that constantly push for unchecked expansion of settlements, tend to mainly live off welfare, and do not serve in the military unlike every other Israeli citizen. But, they are also an indispensable part of Netanyahu's voting bloc, and it seems like they would never agree to a two-state solution.

All that being said, this does feel like she is putting this message out there not merely for any possible benefit of the message itself but to put herself out there. It feels similar to the way that Gavin Newsom is putting himself out there. It makes me wonder what has been and is being said by the upper-level muckety-mucks in the Democratic party behind closed doors. Will Biden bow out at some point? Will there be some fight at the convention for the nomination? Hillary seemed to rule out a cease-fire at the same time she suggested she is someone who will strongly pursue cease-fires when appropriate. This sounds like a person trying to make themself appealing or at least palatable to a wide audience.

A policy that the United States does not get involved with or even comment on the internal politics of our friends and allies would be a huge improvement over the system we have now (and have had for a long time).

On the negative side, such a policy would prevent us from working against stupid and evil communists as we did from WWII until the 2000s. On the positive side, such a policy would prevent us from supporting stupid and evil communists as we have been doing recently.

But since our State Department has gotten pretty much everything wrong for the past 50-60 years, leaving the internal politics of allies alone would be a big improvement.

It could even be an incentive: be our friend and ally and we'll leave your internal politics alone.

But until then, doing the opposite of whatever Hilary Clinton says would probably be wise. The amount of suffering, misery, and death that woman was responsible for in one term as Secretary of State is truly astounding. At least she's good at something, I guess.

The USA is one of the few places in the world where standing up alone, whether in excellence or what is right, is admired. In all of Scandinavia and Asia the nail that stands out is hammered down is the analogy. Conformity is valued above all else. Liberalism in the USA wants this for us.

One of the defining characteristics of the US has been mixing of different groups socially and in business throughout our short history. English, Irish Scots, and Welsh don't get along with each other and mix in Great Britain as they do here. Not to mention Irish and Italians, and Germans, and all the other ethnics of Europe. Heck- I see supporters of Catalan independence here- Catalans should have their own country! Be able to govern themselves! They're Spanish, period, when they get here.

The US has the power to stop this horror today if our government said so. But we won't, because of the power of the Israeli lobby, just like we don't reign in guns, in part, because of the power of the NRA. People who give money are the people who are listened to and get results.

The title of the YouTube video you linked to is, "Gazans in rare protest against Hamas government."

So, in the US during any Democrat administration, Republicans will pounce (of course) on polls indicating that "30% of Democrats disapprove of the president's policy on whatever" - but those polls don't tend to capture the fact that most of those disapproving voters want the policy to be farther to the left.

The poll I've referred to a few times about Palestinian attitudes - which I still haven't found a source for; I heard it in the course of a YouTube video - indicated that although something like 70% of Palestinians disapprove of Hamas, the overwhelming majority nonetheless approve of killing Jews as the right strategy. This is a serious problem that will need to be addressed, if true.

But the majority of Germans shared the Nazis sense of grievance and supported them, at least until the war started going badly. Unfortunately, the Israelis won't be able to de-Hamasify Gaza in the same way that that the Allies de-Nazified Germany after World War II because the Hamas ideology is classified as a religion, rather than a political party.

Cool video at 9:00, Crack. It shows perfectly how the Arabs segregated the Jews onto a paltry 10,000 sq. mile reservation after expelling a million of them in 1948. Meanwhile, Arabs control 5,000,000 sq. miles of territory.

Arab nations keep the jihad heat on by refusing to accept "Palestinian" Arab refugees, but if they drive the Jews from Israel instead of murdering them they expect the non-Islamic world to assimilate them. Really?

Pro-Hamas/Palestinian supporters occupy neither moral nor intellectual high ground.

A Washington Institute poll

A discussion from The Hill of recent polls

Ok. So, the first link indicates that in July of this year, as I said in a previous post, something like 70% of Palestinians don't like Hamas, but that there is strong support for, especially, the most extreme armed groups in Palestine, such as Lion's Den. This poll also indicated that a majority of Palestinians did not want Hamas to break the ceasefire, however, and that 50% said they'd support a two-state solution based on 1967 borders.

But it includes this:

Overall, 57% of Gazans express at least a somewhat positive opinion of Hamas—along with similar percentages of Palestinians in the West Bank (52%) and East Jerusalem (64%)—though Gazans who express this opinion of Hamas are fewer than the number of Gazans who have a positive view of Fatah (64%).

But it is organizations like Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Lion’s Den that receive the most widespread popular support in Gaza. About three quarters of Gazans express support for both groups, including 40% who see the Lion’s Den in a “very positive” light, an attitude shared by a similar percentage of West Bank residents.

The second link discusses polls about Palestinian attitudes about their government. Hamas, the ruling party, enjoys the most support, with the PA (Fatah) next. And in contrast to the other link, this discussion also says this:

By 70 percent to 28 percent, Palestinians oppose a two-state solution — “the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.”

An even larger number — 76 percent to 21 percent — oppose a “one state solution …in which the two sides enjoy equal rights.”

Given a choice among three options for “ending the occupation and building an independent state,” 21 percent prefer “negotiations,” 22 percent “peaceful popular resistance” and 52 percent select “armed conflict.”

This is just what I'd expect from a lying souless piece of shit called Hillary Clinton. Does she mention that her only daughter is married to a Jew and she might not be objective when it comes to Israel?

In any case, her position just jibes with her position on Ukraine. No ceasefire, Kill more people, no negotiations, paint the other side as evil, call for them (Putin, Hamas) to be destroyed, say they can't be trusted.

Forever war - no matter how much it costs the USA taxpayer or how many innocent civilians get killed. Notice that she ignores that both Hamas and Putin were elected and supported by their peoples.

The world as a big game of risk, with HRC and Biden moving pieces around on a board. whoops 10,000 civilians got killed, guess that piece is off the board.

If we had decent moral people who cared about the USA in charge, we would be seeking a ceasefire in Gaza and the Ukraine and not fighting for the "The final solution". Althouse loses another “stereotype” battle.

The queen of feminism, the very icon of the modern woman, Hillary Clinton, fabricated the Russian Collusion Hoax in fury over being rejected. So, “Hell hath no fury…” proves to be true. Hillary has driven the world to the cliff of nuclear holocaust in jealous furry over her rejection.

Stereotypes are almost always true. It’s a rare person of any group who escapes them. The stereotype of gay men is right on the money, although Althouse denies it, even though she lived through the AIDS epidemic that proved it to be true.

Crack is the garden variety stereotype of a black man, blaming everybody for his failures and begging whites for a handout.

Assume a person fits their stereotype until they prove otherwise. You’ll almost always be right.

Of course she is. The pressure within the Dem party is rapidly growing to drop Biden from the next election. That opens up a bit of a vacuum. Newsom is pretty, somewhat articulate, but a far left lunatic, and a gross failure at running our biggest state, financially. VP Harris is very often a blubbering idiot, esp when in public. Who is left? Hillary! And this would give her a chance again to beat Trump, as she truly believes she should have last time around. She is owed a rematch! Her big problem here is that she and her husband have been out of the WH for 20 years now (by the time of the inauguration). They have lost much of their power over that time, in Dem circles. And no one likes her. But besides that, she’s a shoe in.

She knows they hand out candy after reports of dead Jews.

She knows the mother of a "shahid" is honored, and to lose a child as a "shahid" is considered a gift.

She knows all that. She knows that they proudly brag, "You love life, we love death."

But she had to phrase it this way for obvious political reasons. Alas, it's that failure to be able to confront reality head-on which has kept this conflict going for decades.

The Left can't think beyond "democracy good." If the outcome of a democratic process is contrary to the Left's beliefs it's just quietly ignored--the people in Gaza don't *really* want to destroy Jews/the state of Israel, the people of California don't *really* oppose gay marriage, etc. Meanwhile their worldview is based on the belief that, if properly asked, everyone actually agrees with them except for a few horrible people (Hamas officials, Trump supporters, religious extremists who think abortion is wrong) and once those small minorities can be overcome it'll be heaven on earth.

You don't honestly think the Inuit chose to live in the high arctic do you? Or that the Anasazi thought that laboriously building their homes on the sides of sheer cliffs was just a fun housing choice. And, once again, as in Afghanistan, Howard's Heroic Biden is leaving American hostages in the hands of the enemy with no demands for their release.

This is after Biden kicked in $100B+ to help advance the Iranian mad mullah nuke program ON TOP OF reducing sanctions against Iran allowing Howard's ChiCom allies and Biden handlers the opportunity to close on their $400B -$500B energy deal with Iran!

People (such as Cook) who assert that hatred of Jews is the logical result of the existence of the state of Israel, or the logical result of Israeli actions towards Palestinians, are people who typically have no knowledge of the Quran, its many passages of Jew hatred, what is taught in mosques; as well as lacking historical knowledge of the Mufti of Jerusalem and his connection with Hitler during WWII, or the massacres of Jews living in Hebron 1929, etc.

It's been so interesting recently to view video after video of people online who are ProPalestinian and anti-Zionist and see just how ignorant and uninterested they are about the history of the region (total lack of knowledge of the Ottoman Empire and its ending after WWI), total lack of knowledge of Islam and its jihad doctrine, total lack of knowledge of the indigenous character of Jews in the Holy Land for thousands of years and that indigeneity is not determined by numbers or majority of population but by residence, total lack of knowledge of how Israel came into being, how wars occurred, the offers to Palestinians of a state, etc.

Then you get the sophisticated haters like Crack who look into the history to look for information as ammunition, rather than for comprehensive understanding. For instance, one could look at the series of failed peace initiatives where Israel gave up more than they should for the sake of peace and you could conclude that some people would become very cynical about the Arab motivations for peace. Netanyahu appears to be that kind of cynic and his support for Hamas a calculated deal with the devil, but that does not make him responsible for the goals and actions of Hamas. He didn't make them murder, they chose to do that all on their own. As to Hamas's support by ordinary Gazans, I have no idea but generally people go along to get along.

Hillary is usually a knee jerk leftist who was BFF with Arafat's wife, Suha, but Bill got burned so bad that H. can't be pro Hamas or pro cease fire at this point. I remember her running after Arafat, after he walked out on the peace deal Bill worked so hard to create and complete. That left a mark. At least she is

Of course I see a problem with killing "all those people." They're the ones who've been brutally occupied for decades, remember? Where does this expectation they're supposed to be happy about it come from? Or that being ruthlessly treated by Israelis for decades is supposed to create benevolent angels when confronted with the people, literally, killing them on a daily basis - long before Oct. 7?

Israel has killed 200 civilians in the West Bank, claiming they're hunting Hamas. News Flash: Hamas isn't in the West Bank. Have you seen the video of any of those deaths? The IDF and the settlers they arm bound, stripped, beat, burned, and pissed on 3 Palestinians in the West Bank, but A) that's not unusual, and B) it's been no more trumpeted then all the other crimes that Israel has been committing against these people for decades.

You forget that the Palestinians have been dying sometimes in the multiple thousands, not just 1,175 people like on October 7. You should also remember this is Israel - a nation - against a group of people. Not two nations fighting. This is a totally lopsided battle. And the side with all the advantages are the occupiers. And one of those advantages is having America on their side because A) we feel guilty our government was filled with antisemites during WWII B) one way to get rid of the Jews is to put them over there, and C) we need the Jews to start some shit over there so Jesus can come back, and our evangelical Christians can go to Heaven while the Jews and the rest of us go to Hell. That's very important. Because I'm an atheist. So I don't want to kill "all those people."

People being occupied have every right to defend themselves. Even more than nations.

On the assumption that this is not a joke, the ignorance of some commenters here is embarrassing. Jews in 1947 Palestine mainly were content with the 50% or so of Palestine they were offered in the UN partition plan, after repeated pogroms in which Arabs slaughtered hundreds of Jews simply for living there. The Arabs could have had a state in the rest (much larger than the current West Bank and Gaza), and would have been celebrating the 75th anniversary last year. Instead they launched a war to drive the Jews into the sea. If any Arabs were “driven out,” it was only in that context, and larger numbers left at the encouragement of Arab leaders who assured them that they could come back after the victory. Today 20% of Israelis are Arabs, with full rights as citizens. Meanwhile, it was the Jews who were driven out of the surrounding areas (N. Africa, Iraq, Syria, Yemen), some 800,000.

But go ahead and believe whatever is convenient for you.

The Israeli's control the food, water, and access to the Gaza strip. The Gazans have no political rights. And they have to listen to powerful Rightwing Israelis discuss who they are "animals" and deserve to have their small bit of land taken, and forced to flee to Eygpt.

You'd think Americans would take some sort of objective view of the situation, but I guess a lot of Pro-Israeli types in the USA aren't really Americans they're Weirdo Christians Zionists or Israelis who just live here.

But right now, none of this background matters. We have civilians being bombed and killed in Gaza, and we need to put pressure on Biden to stop it. We supply the bombs Israel uses. Biden and by extension, ourselves, are implicit in war crime, and needless civilian death.

Weeks ago, they used to laugh at the concept of "safe spaces" for blacks and gays. Now they'll practically put their own lives on the line if we don't find one for Jews on campus. Weeks ago, they used to be totally against doxxing people. But now they applaud as a truck drives around, showing everybody information on people they don't like. I could go on, but you get the idea.

They don't believe in anything but hurting people. As soon as October 7 happened, they all went back to that early 20th century white guy talk about "savages" and "animals." And they're bloodthirsty. I've been none of these things. I haven't said I wanted to see anybody die. If that alone means I'm not gonna be in a crowd, then so be it.

That's not a crowd I want to be in.

I didn't say "hatred of Jews is the logical result of the existence of the state of Israel...." Please read more carefully. I said, if they hate the Israelis as a result of indoctrination, (as asserted by someone else), the "indoctrination" was in the form of Israeli oppression and violence against them. Such animus, to the degree it exists, is "a logical result of Israeli actions towards Palestinians." How is that difficult to understand?

Your dumb ass can see I just found out about it. I posted the link to where I found it. What the fuck more than that do you expect me to do upon first inspection? Was I supposed to become immediately fully informed on it before I told anyone else about it - in order to avoid your usual condemnation, I mean? Of course, I understand, there was absolutely NO WAY that you could've filled me in further, on what you know, without trying to put me down. That would've been impossible. Just like Israel can't fight Hamas without killing, so far, 15,000 Palestinians. Things just have to happen that way.

With white people like you around, when it comes to finding our humanity, everybody just has to temper their expectations.

New information from Briahna Joy Gray and Haaretz: 1,175 people died in the attack by Hamas on October 7 - not 1,400 as Israel said. There was only one dead baby. 30% of the dead were Soldiers and Police Officers. Some people died in the crossfire at the hands of the IDF.

I shouldn't feed the troll, but: Notice that Cracked provides no link, after recently demanding that others do so. Briahna Joy Gray is an American TV co-host with no direct knowledge of anything in Israel, but tweets assertions pulled out of her a**, such as calling the claims of rape and baby killings "lies."

The story in Haaretz that seems to be the reference here offers no count of babies, children, or any other group. It says this: "This list of 1175 names will be continuously updated with names that have been cleared for publication." In other words, it's not complete. Many on the list are just names without ages or photos shown, no way to know if they were infants. But there are dozens of children aged 5-17 with photos.

See here. It's behind a paywall but I was able to get around it.

Abbas Admits He Said No to Israel’s Peace Offer

The question of what happened in the late 2008 Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations between Prime Minister Olmert and President Abbas has been controversial since those talks took place.

But now we have the admission from Abbas that the Israeli version of events is correct: he said no. [...] Abbas walked away, just as Yasser Arafat had walked away at Camp David in 2000."

Israeli army veterans admit role in massacres of Palestinians in 1948

Dozens of Israeli army veterans have admitted their involvement in massacres against Palestinian civilians in 1948, and acknowledged that Zionism misled them and is a catastrophe for both Jews and Arabs.....

And somebody told the world that already:

"When a real and final catastrophe should befall us in Palestine, the first responsible for it would be the British and the second responsible for it the Terrorist organizations [built] up from our own ranks. I am not willing to see anybody associated with those misled and criminal people."

Hamas is all over the West Bank, laying low, avoiding arrest by the Abbas' Palestinian authority which has hundreds of Hamas personnel held in PA prisons in the West Bank and shut down over 150 Hamas affiliated West Bank groups.

As with your moronic breathless supposedly revelatory gaza natural gas "discovery" story...13 years late (typical for you), you simply dont know anything and your entire framework for "understanding" the Middle East conflict boils down to:

So, here's quite a large definitional difference. In Christianity, and I suspect in a number of other faiths including Judaism, "martyrdom" implies dying for your faith - without killing anyone else. In Christianity, it specifically means dying pacifically (like St. Stephen, for example), while defending or holding to the Christian faith. It didn't mean "trying to kill as many unbelievers as possible before or while dying."

It has NEVER meant rape.

Crack and rcocean and Robert Cook - why this drive to defend what, if anyone else did it, you would find indefensible?

Last night, Biden ended his presidency with his failed attempt to read his notes throughout his "press conference." It wasn't enough that he had a pre-arranged list of who to call upon for pre-arranged questions, he could not manage to read his answers from the notes he had on his lectern. Stage 4 dementia, perhaps already at Stage 5. If he lasts in office to next year, it will be downright Wilsonian of him.

Quoting a source that even Wikipedia describes as "an outlet for the Muslim Brotherhood and its website strongly promotes pro-Hamas related content."

War is hell. Too bad the Arabs launched a massive attack on Israel in 1947. Hundreds of Israeli civilians were also killed, on top of the hundreds that had been slaughtered by Arabs in the pogroms of the 1920s and 1930s. Had they accepted the UN partition plan they could have had their own state along with a much tinier state of Israel in 1947.

"Why can't I just eat my waffle?" I rank this response right up there with the best of Joshu in Japanese Zen Koans. The waffle can be real or symbolic. The eating of the waffle can be to eliminate it from view, to enjoy it, to repudiate it, and much more. The querulous "Why can't I just..." is both self-condemning and recognition of the impact of others on one's life.

"I have investigated the lady who runs the tea house." "Why can't I just eat my waffle?" Almost as impressive as cutting a kitten in half.

"Except for indians, how many have had their land stolen, their families bombed and shot at for decades"?

The reality is that for the most part, their land was not stolen. They abandoned it voluntarily, at the urging of their neighboring coreligionists. The Palestinians who didn’t, kept theirs, and most are happily Israeli citizens. The absurdity of “From the river to the sea” is first, that the bulk of the original Israeli country, before they expanded, after being attacked, again and again, and esp with the shelling from the Gotland Heights, was honestly acquired by Jews. Some had been there for centuries (esp in Jerusalem, and much acquired in the 3/4 century leading up to their independence. The city that Gal Gadot was born in, was bought from a pair of Christian farmers, with Rothschild financing, and approval of the Turkish ruler. Jerusalem, while holy for Muslims, is even more so, for Jews and Christians, and as a result, apparently hadn’t had a Muslim majority for centuries.

Getting back to Crooked Hillary - her motivations are suspect for another reason. She is still apparently close to Huma Abbedin (yes, the one married for awhile to the Congressional exhibitionist, so enamored by his male sex organ, that he repeatedly posted pictures of it online). While she was Sec of State (and at least up through her election loss to Trump), Abbedin was her constant companion and confidant. Maybe evan Lesbian lover? She is also the daughter of the founder of a paper in next door Egypt that has long been the mouthpiece of the Muslim Brotherhood, her mother still runs it, her brother works there, and she did in the past. Remember the Arab Spring, where Egypt was given over to MB rule (until ousted by the military)? Ditto, the fiascos in Libya and Syria? That was under her watch, and always looked to me like Abbedin’s influence.

I do multiple links in a post all the time. Copy and paste the urls of the sites you already had to visit for your info to begin with into the comment box. Copy/paste the linkage template # times, put the landing text in each, copy/paste urls into template. Even with half a dozen, it only takes a minute.

To pull out this one example of me not using a link, compared to all the times you assholes have been shooting your mouths off without providing anything, is full of shit.
