Impeachment inquiry, yeah baby. So now they should request Joe Biden's tax returns for his shell companies with $16 million dollars in income which he did not include in his disclosure, because, well, that's what they did to Trump.

Oh yea, and eyewitness testimony, and bank records to back their stories up, equals "no evidence of influence peddling by Biden," per the AP, the same AP which has edited its style guide to forbid the use of the word "allegedly" in any story involving Trump or Republicans in general.

Obese African American Women of color appear in lots of television commercials these days. Almost all of them, not that I've started tracking or anything like that.

Body positivity, they say.

Problem is, obesity is not healthy, just like the romanticizing alcohol and cigarette billboards targeting minority neighborhoods was not positively healthy.

If it was wrong then, it's wrong today.

But then again, that's just my opinion.

Strange Bedfellows (1)
It is a time racked by disunion but in the prolife trials completed and ongoing in DC we see a mysterious union, a United States of Being American as it were. In United States v. Handy 10 people who entered a late-term abortion clinic in DC in October 10, 2020 for an "action" are being accused and, I have no doubt, will all be convicted of conspiring to block clinic entrances, a FACE Act violation and of committing a civil rights violation thereby. But look at the composition of this "conspiratorial" group. It was "led" by the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), a group of young queer and trans activists, though these atheistic rehumanists would regard "led" as a somewhat patriarchal term, for their relation to the others with them in the uprising that day. With them were members of the Red Rose movement which includes many older, traditional Catholics who take their inspiration from the White Rose prolife movement in Nazi Germany. They were witnessing. And there were several evangelicals. They were testifying. And there was a Messianic Jew. And she stood before a door, speaking out as if she stood before the doors of Auschwitz trying awaken German hearts to the beautiful lives passing by on their way to oblivion.
Whatever you think on the issue of abortion, surely you must stop and hope when you hear that a group of Americans composed of these elements found a measure of agreement and acted together on anything. Surely you must wonder what was going on when you hear that the government says that members of this diverse group were conspiring together. Not hurling insults, not cancelling each other? Together? Oh, yes? And how did they find agreement?
First, they had one prolife heart for the unborn though many ways of speaking of it.
Moreover, differences were lost in struggle against the vast moral emptiness that allowed this particular late-term abortionist, Dr. Santangelo of the Washington Surgi Clinic, to flourish in DC. In 2013 a prolifer videoed Santangelo explaining his intention to offer a level of care to abortion survivors which no new-born would survive (which is a violation of the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act 2002.) Again and again between 2013 and 2020, prolifers tried to get the DC Police or Mayor or Council to take an interest in the video and in what it implied about viable new-borns, many of them black, who passed their last minutes in DC suffering a heart attack and struggling to breathe, perhaps face down on a table as cold and metallic as the hearts about them. Nothing happened.

Strange Bedfellows (2)
But the day after the first group of prolifers was convicted in August of 2023 the DC Police stated that they were going to investigate Santangelo. They should. After all, the truth will come out some day and on that day the DC Police will be held morally and financially responsible for every day in which these prolifers are held in prison. (And the first group was taken to prison the instant their trial ended and are being held there now.) On that day, the Mayor and the Council and Congress with its oversight responsibilities will turn on the DC Police like a pack of jackals and blame them for not investigating and turning up facts like the video which the Mayor and the others would have been so glad to have. Well, anticipate the day, DC Police. Be proactive, get the facts and give them to the Mayor and the others today.

Not without a full House vote. With my apology to Tonto: “Justice is not what the GOP seeks, kemosabe.” It's against the law and there are not enough bipartisan votes to pass an impeachment inquiry when there is no evidence of a crime, despite unending Comer and Jordan committee hearings since McCarthy took over as speaker.

Any demand for documents will be ignored.

Why was it OK to open an impeachment inquiry against Trump without a full House vote but illegal to open an impeachment inquiry of Biden without one?

@gadfly, what Pelosi did, McCarthy can do. You’re not familiar with “what goes around, comes around”?

And deliberately withholding documents is itself an impeachable offense.

I was giving John Lennon a hard time on one of the threads. Imagine remains, for me, a hapless and stupid Marxist ditty.

But he was a brilliant musician, no question. Personally, I think the Beatles were a lot better as a band than as solo acts. The internal competition between Lennon and McCartney is what made that band so strong, in my opinion.

And Harrison was very honest! (Lennon helped him with the lyrics, that's how sweet of a man he was).

I'm talking about Taxman, of course. It's the most beautiful anti-socialist song to come out of the UK that I've ever heard.

Nice of John to help the non-writer Harrison with the lyrics. John Lennon put his art before his politics (usually) and was a sweet artist. RIP.

@Althouse, I understand that your beloved New York Times is trying to help Susanna Gibson spin her posting of sex tapes in a porn site called Chaturbate. She is the 40 year old Democrat candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 57, and she attempted to use these tapes as part of an effort to raise campaign funds that is probably unique in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia (if not in the entirety of the history of the United States.

At 77 I am a bit past online porn, so I don’t know whether Chaturbate charges a fee to see its library of sex tapes, but however it works the tapes in question were not “leaked,” they were deliberately posted — by her — for anyone who could log onto Chaturbate to watch and enjoy. Along with the tapes, she solicited money to perform specific acts in exchange tor “tips.” If will be interesting to see whether that qualifies as prostitution under Virginia laws.

Gadfly,
Pelosi changed house rules, with Trump impeachment 1.0 (there is no law about impeachment inquiries) Pelosi rules allow for the inquiry without a floor vote.

"Not without a full House vote."

Democrats did an impeachment inquiry without a full House vote. They dragged all kinds of people in to testify and subpoenaed all kinds of documents. While I am sure that, as all guilty parties do, the Biden crime family will stonewall, with the help of the Democratic Party, but this is simply following the precedent that the Democrats set.

"no evidence of a crime,"

Is eyewitness testimony of people in a position to know evidence? When it is backed up by emails from Hunter Biden's laptop, which cross correlate with emails from those claiming corruption? If you had that much evidence against Trump, he would have been in jail a long time ago, and I would have been happy to turn the key on the lock.

"Restorative justice" is exactly what the GOP seeks. That's a thing, right?

JK - although "restorative justice" would be very fun, what an impeachment inquiry could achieve is to raise public awareness of just how cheaply and readily the president has been willing to sell American foreign policy and their tax dollars, throughout his career as a venal corruptocrat.

But thank you for joining the "without evidence" chorus. Once more, with feeling!

tim in vermont said...

Joe Biden is already claiming "executive privilege," which applies to internal deliberations of a presidential administration, as grounds to refuse to release emails between Hunter and Pedo Pete, which reference specifically by name Hunter's clients, which are, of course, foreign entities, for whom Hunter advocated, without registering as a foreign agent, BTW.

tim in vermont said...

et’s assume that Representative James Comer and his colleagues discover nothing else about the Biden family business, that the state of play stays exactly the same as it is now.

We already know that Joe Biden is corrupt.

He may not be Representative William Jefferson cash-in-the-freezer corrupt, or Governor Rod Blagojevich I’m-going-to-sell-this-Senate-seat corrupt. But he was complicit in an inherently corrupt enterprise that centered on selling access to him when he was a high official of the United States government who had incredible power and was entrusted with handling sensitive matters.

Dammit! Crack's making his blog a must read.

Didn't the Biden Administration just get in trouble with a Federal Court over First Amendment violations in pressuring tech to suppress negative stores, and yet, here Authoritarian Joe Goes again, pressuring news outlets regarding how to cover the impeachment inquiry.

"'It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies,' Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House Counsel’s Office, wrote in the letter, according to a draft copy obtained by CNN."

Instead of trying to intimidate the press, it seems like a better course of action, which would ensure Biden's re-election in a walk, would be to demonstrate through transparency, that the charges are all lies. Provide witnesses under oath, just drown the panel in exculpatory evidence, demonstrate to all that it's just a big misunderstanding. Like an episdode of Friends.
