Wife gone on visit. And bad weather. So, watched more TV. Dipped into Adam-12 Seaon 1. talk about an unevn show. 2 good leads, but low budget and completely dependent on guest stars and a decent script. I'd say about 50 percent episondes were good, the rest almost unwatchable.
Follwed that with Syberberg's "Our Hitler - a film from Germany" which I only got part through. Its a crazy, nutty kind of film. Avant garde. Enjoyed the 1st hour, but don't know if I want to wade through another 6 hours.
I was reading through the Jimmy Buffett comments and wanted to say I was a casual fan, but I'm struck by how many of my musician and brewpub friends are feeling this very deeply. The Parrothead thing was a carefee friendship ritual and in this day and age that can be hard to come by.
But what I really came to say was, listen to Changing Channels for one of his deeply reflective songs. A friend of mine joked earlier this summer that Buffett built a monster career on like three chords and not many more notes in his vocal range--but that guy could write.

Surprisingly good piece in today's NYT about the mechanics of Xi's rise to power. His stranglehold on power could be the biggest influence on world politics for the decades to come.
I'm still playing Wordle daily. Yesterday was game #600. Earlier this week, I finally got the word on the first guess (AUDIO). I felt pretty good about that, but that meant that I had to retire AUDIO as a starter word. I don't use the same word every day, but that was a favorite because it knocked out four of the five vowels, as does its sibling, ADIEU. If you're going to lose a good starter word, that's the way to do it.
Cancel means don't play the clip and Confirms means don't play the clip because I may be triggered... or something. Orwellian shit is real and is here.
Rock and roll is all about the three dominant chords. No shame in it. I learned to play keyboard on an old church organ and it had hymns in the bench and I would practice on them sometimes, and those old 19th century hymns used the same chord patterns.
Now do the mechanics of Joe Biden’s rise to power and how his Cold War worldview and stranglehold on the media and his tech authoritarian mode of government is going to affect the fate of the world for decades to come. Which will be first? A world war over who gets to rule over ethnic Russians within the borders of the defunct USSR? The collapse of the dollar as Biden spends trillions, expecting other countries to buy the debt, at the same time as we use the dollar to lawlessly punish those countries which seem to have any prospect of challenging our position in the world?
I don’t know. I prefer a president who is looking for win-win solutions, you know, a businessman, not a guy who rules by whipping up hatred against people and nations, like the Chinese. How Xi runs China is none of our business. If we did not use every legitimate grievance that the Chinese people have with their government as an opportunity for regime change, perhaps the Chinese communist would not think that they have to crack down so hard on dissent. If the US stopped trying to impose regime change everywhere we see a rival to our economic position, the whole world would be a freer place. We are the baddies.

gadfly: Google Ernest Hemingway. The writer. His prose is clear, natural and direct. Make sure to read the copy in his Ballentine Ale ad. If they had the internet back then, it would have become a meme.

Was out walking at 5 AM this morning. Plenty dark. Hello Autumn my old friend.

Now we are into September and the days are getting shorter, it's quite noticeable now.
Three pix: Glory, Glorier, Gloriest.
That Syberberg epic is pretty old by now, nicht wahr? I've only seen bits and fragments myself.
Felton has a nice overview of the Hitler body controversy--four or five episodes now.

Ain't it grand? Perseus Arm rising.
Your lake in Madison plays with the sun much better than the Great Lakes and oceans.
I sent in a comment a few hours ago in the NYC MJ thread, which at least mentioned marijuana.
It has not shown up even though a later one has.
Prof is such an old meanie sometimes!

Gadfly- I like when ppl write as they think.
It’s individual- and I view it as a personal touch.
We are who we are…
… &the photos are so lovely.
How many times have I come here and the escaped “Oh!” follows 1st glimpse?

I posted to my X: YouTube phone app is censoring a Joe Rogan Experience clip with Tim Dillon where they appear to talk about the Obamas

Your top photo is suitable for framing, nice use of reflection.

Are headline writers afraid of the word "and"? I've seen a couple of headlines that follow this pattern:
X does something with Y
An easier to read headline would be:
X and do something
The latest headline I've seen is:
"House Speaker McCarthy tours Lahaina with bipartisan delegation"
This would be more understandable as:
"House Speaker McCarthy and with bipartisan delegation tour Lahaina"
Maybe headline writers had bad experiences with "and" and are are deathly afraid of that word.

Who had already determined that Gadfly is, in fact, Miss Crabapple ?
Lonejustice: thank you for sharing that!!
