Lots of calls with the PE clients and the investment managers today. Lots of raising cash and anecdotes of a slowing economy. I’ve been seeing a few of those myself. September is historically the worst month for equites, not for nuthin. Companies run out of fiscal time to hide the bad news…

Not advice and I’m not your investment advisor. You wouldn’t listen, anyways…

Those who recall the movie "The Blind Side" might be interested to know that football player Michael Oher has sued the Tuohys, claiming that they owe him, as an adopted son, $50 million from the family fortune.

They deny that he was ever adopted and claim that they were only ever conservators, and that the fortune is from the sale of their restaurant chain, not his football career (of which I know nothing).

I don't have an opinion and never saw the film, starring La Bullock. I met the Touhys about 50 years ago when they were neighbors of some friends who were living in a new (and at the time upscale) apartment complex as on-site yardmen.

They were high-energy and ambitious people, and she was outstandingly hot.

with all these indictments and revelations.. I think we can ALL AGREE;
that the President is, in fact, THE MOST DISHONEST SCUMBAG IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY..
You ALL Know that it's True. Why else would his DOJ be filling these Trumped up Charges??

Trump will not get special treatment in Georgia as he has in his other 3 indictments. He will be finger printed, take a mugshot( that will be worth big $$$ somewhere guaranteed) and will start in the Georgia jail where it may actually end in a few years.Trump says he will have a press conference with his filing on why he is not guilty like he did once before that was just meanderings and his nonsense claims. They may see a little larger crowd for this but not Magites but Georgians tossing epitaphs.History is being made.History won't be so concerned about his court proven crimes when that occurs but more in the question how did this perp ever become president.Stay tuned this will go on for years.RICO just like on TV.

Good advice over at Instapundit:

In addition to every danger just listed above, it is also a strategic dialectical operation designed to poke the bear into reacting. They didn’t get a big MAGA / hillbilly / (Christian) conservative reaction from the drag queens, so they’ll get it by going after Trump.

If they can provoke the American people, or a contingent of them, into believing this is a truly lost-cause, revolutionary moment, they can provoke a second J6-style reaction (watch who in Trump’s camp/orbit calls for this too) that reifies the J6 narrative and demands action.

I’ll be accused (watch who does it! LOL) of telling people to stand by and do nothing while our system is destroyed by pointing out this operation too. Just watch. Provocateurs everywhere, on both sides. I’m not calling for inaction but for judicious action, so, still action.

It is incumbent upon us to make it the general consensus of the movement/population (or whatever is relevant) that these dangerous provocations are not acceptable AND understood for what they are as provocations, the bait of which we will not take. That’s how they’re beaten.

I've read about this story also. From what I've read, they never claimed to have adopted Oher, and that neither the book about them, nor the movie based on it claims they did. (I saw the movie and it's does seem to at least imply he was adopted.) In the book Oher wrote about his life he clearly states that the Tuohys got a conservatorship over him, and encouraged him to remain in contact with his biological mother. Oher just wants some of the money the Tuohys got from the movie now that his football career is over. I read another story that said Oher threatened to create negative publicity for the family unless they gave him $15 million dollars.

It's a sad ending to the story whoever is right.

When you are in the middle of a massive brainwashing operation, pay attention to the tells so you can spot them later.

This one has it all. Watch especially for "worse than Watergate" and "No one is above the law" and "His followers will follow him off a cliff" messaging.

The charges are too complicated for the public to understand, so brainwashing has no friction on this one.

Evil Teachers' Unions Have Completed Their Chicago Flex

"When I first began writing about politics, my two main focuses were liberal bias in the media and school choice. The latter led me to a deep and abiding loathing of teachers’ unions. I’ve been saying and writing for years that the National Education Association is the most evil labor organization on the planet. All of the teachers’ unions are evil, but the NEA is the biggest, so I point to it first.

The teachers’ unions weren’t able to hide their nastiness from the public during the COVID pandemic. They did what they’ve always done — put their interests above those of the students and, as we are now finding out, doomed those kids to being forever behind.

One of the more bizarre things we saw back then was the far-left regime in Chicago battling with the teachers’ union there to let the kids go back to school. Then-Mayor Lori Lightfoot — an avowed progressive — wanted to open the schools, while the Chicago Teachers Union wanted to stay on permanent vacation, the kids be damned.

In a classic display of just how much political power the unions have, the HISTORIC FIRST (Black lesbian) Lightfoot was bounced after one term and replaced by — you guessed it — a teachers’ union thug.

Hizzoner the Union Thug Brandon Johnson recently got rid of the last of the problems from the Lightfoot era, Dr. Allison Arwady, which Rick wrote about:

Prior to running for mayor, Johnson was a Chicago Teachers Union organizer, and the CTU had serious clashes with former Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Arwady over the reopening of schools during the pandemic.

Writing about Johnson’s run-off victory over former Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas, I noted that the city was now under the thumb of the CTU.

A case could be made that Chicago was always under the CTU’s thumb. High-profile Democrats anywhere don’t get where they are without the support of the teachers’ unions; Lightfoot and Arwady just happened to step out of line. When that happened, the CTU made sure that it flexed hard as soon as it got the opportunity so everyone could be reminded of just who was in charge.

Several years ago, I was invited by the Manhattan Institute to a small dinner gathering in Los Angeles. The guest speaker detailed the power that the California Teachers Union had. It is the wealthiest and most powerful political lobby in the most populous state in the country. And, by the way, the NEA isn’t just the largest teachers’ union. It’s the largest labor union in the United States. There’s a lot of coerced dues money to be spent there.

I know I’ve brought this up more than once recently, but I also said I would keep bringing it up. School choice is the only way to combat the overwhelming power of the teachers’ unions. Thankfully, a lot of progress has been made on that front in several red states. The unions have owned the blue states for too long, but kneecapping them wherever they can be kneecapped is a good thing.

A very good thing.

The latest NPR/Marist poll has Trump winning the Electoral College in 2024 and beating Biden with independents by 8 points

For reference, around this time in 2020, this same poll had Trump losing to Biden by 8 and down 3 with independents

This is why they’re indicting him

One can judge where the independents are going by Althouse. You can see that these BS prosecutions have moved her public position. Will she vote for Trump? I kind of doubt it, but the fact is that she is representative of a large number of voters, and any shift in her sentiments will be reflected in some number of independents actually switching their vote, so this poll indicating that Trump is leading by a lot with them makes sense.

Also, the NPR Marist poll greatly understated Trump's support in 2020, if you are calibrating.

He already got the money. And it wasn't much. The author of the book split the proceeds with the family and each member - including Oher - received about $14k.
