Of the "gross" of a movie.. How much of THAT becomes PROFIT for the studio?

First i was thinking, that the ticket price would have to pay for (among other things)
* the cute girl that sells you the ticket (well, NOT her; but her wages)
* the pimply faced kid that sells you your popcorn (again, NOT him; but his wages)
* whoever cleans up (a.N.h.b.h.w)
* electricity/water/sewer/rent/property taxes/etc for the theater
* potential PROFIT for the theater owner
But THEN i wondered.. Maybe the theaters DON'T make ANY on the movies? And just live on popcorn sales?

So my question is.. Of the "gross" of a movie.. How Much of THAT becomes PROFIT for the studio?

the movie "Cruella" was 'said' to have a budget of '$100-200 MILLION' and had a "gross" of $234 Million

Did they (would they? COULD THEY?) make any money at that rate?
1st i was thinking HELL no, then i realized that the answer was: HELL! i Don't Know

I need to feed the algorithm the idea that I want to question my cherished assumptions and the only way I know how to do that is by start watching something and see where it goes. 1) The lead FBI counterintelligence agent chosen to investigate Donald Trump will plead guilty to accepting bribes from Russian oligarchs (amid other charges). William McGonigal was the lead agent in the FBI's investigation of Russia collusion that brought down Donald Trump's presidency. That process was brought about by Hillary Clinton, who hired a DC law firm named Perkins Coie to fake up a dossier on Trump that the FBI then leaked to the news media. That law firm hasn't yet been charged with RICO violations, but it certainly should.

2) A Chinese FBI agent has been accused of perjury for telling Senate investigators under oath that he had no independent knowledge about Hunter Biden's laptop. Documents since discovered show that the Chinese FBI agent was lying.

So yeah, as you can see, the problem in the country is Donald Trump. He's the one threatening "our Democracy" you see.

tim in vermont said...: Jack Smith's big resume item that got him this job was to wrongly convict a Republican governor of VA, open the way for a Democrat to take over, and when his conviction was reversed based on the extreme stretches of the law and implausible legal theories used to convict him, it no longer mattered, because it was only about the election.

If the movie is a known block buster the film company will demand all of the gate for the first couple of weeks when there is the highest attendance. The threater makes their concession money. After the first coup;le of weeks the theater can start putting attendance money in their pocket. It's a sliding scale.
Studios never make a profit. Their accounting is set up that way. They charge the film companies for everything. Which is why film companies like to use out of the way studios or have their own.; 8/8/23, 7:55 AM
