The current temperature here is about 23 degrees below the normal average for this date. That's just "weather" though, right? And if it was 10 degrees above average instead, that would prove that Global Boiling is a reality and that we're all going to die, right?
serious question for all of y'all.. Of the "gross" of a movie.. How much of THAT becomes PROFIT for the studio?
First i was thinking, that the ticket price would have to pay for (among other things) * the cute girl that sells you the ticket (well, NOT her; but her wages) * the pimply faced kid that sells you your popcorn (again, NOT him; but his wages) * whoever cleans up (a.N.h.b.h.w) * electricity/water/sewer/rent/property taxes/etc for the theater * potential PROFIT for the theater owner But THEN i wondered.. Maybe the theaters DON'T make ANY on the movies? And just live on popcorn sales?
So my question is.. Of the "gross" of a movie.. How Much of THAT becomes PROFIT for the studio?
the movie "Cruella" was 'said' to have a budget of '$100-200 MILLION' and had a "gross" of $234 Million
Did they (would they? COULD THEY?) make any money at that rate? 1st i was thinking HELL no, then i realized that the answer was: HELL! i Don't Know
can anyone help? maybe with actual actuality ? thanx!
#Humblebrag: Sometimes I start watching a video I would not go out of my way to watch (I wouldn't google it) but for the algorithms. I need to feed the algorithm the idea that I want to question my cherished assumptions and the only way I know how to do that is by start watching something and see where it goes. Here's a couple I watched till the end.

Here's a link to a review of Barbie from the Powerline Blog site. There's been a lot of controversy about the movie and this is an interesting take. I haven't seen the movie - not my cup of tea. (I haven't heard of any car chases or explosions featured in the movie.) But in all honesty, the main reason I'm linking to it is because the reviewer uses 'garnered' and I know our blogger is enamored with that word.
"When [Biden] approached me, his words to me were, 'My wife, Jill & I, know how you feel. We lost our son as well and brought him home in a flag draped coffin.'"
"My heart started beating faster & I started shaking, knowing that their son died from cancer & they were able to be by his side."
"How could someone be so heartless to say he knew how I felt."'
Just what you might expect from a guy who showered with and sexualized his own daughter.
gilbar, Jeff Bezos is rolling in money so he has to be the guy taking all the profits because the American actors' union (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike over an ongoing labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike began the strike shutdowns in the industry. That's entertainment!
One TV series that I had never heard of is filming new shows and Barbie and Oppenheimer reruns will get old in a hurry. I guess we could return to 10 Cent Saturday Matinees to watch Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Hopalong Cassidy, and The Cisco Kid. Cisco and Pancho were friends of mine.
Any embarrassment yet to you lefties?? This man is delusional, and it is out there for everybody to see, but keep closing your eyes. YOU are part of the problem.

It’s amusing to listen to them rationalize about why the global warming bus is late. This summer they actually tried to pretend that it’s here with a bunch of exaggerated stories about a hot couple of weeks and a string of arsons committed by fellow travelers. This arson thing is not going away, though. Like the Joker said, gasoline is cheap.
The judge says that Jack Smith has not shown why the documents that Trump had should be sealed; she can’t see the harm in making them public. You know, the documents that we are supposed to imprison Trump for possessing, without us seeing them.
"Pence just accidentally admitted he could have turned the 2020 election over to the House of Representatives but he didn't because he was worried about 'chaos'
That means he admits he knew that he had the legal ability to do that"
The FBI planted a fake story in the Washington Post, then cited it in its application to the FISA court to continue to spy on the Trump campaign. This is the kind of shit sandwich that a good Democrat is expected to swallow without complaint, even to cheer it on, and if you are not willing to swallow it, you are not a good Democrat.
For those at home keeping score ... in the last 24 hours two FBI agents have been in the news:
1) The lead FBI counterintelligence agent chosen to investigate Donald Trump will plead guilty to accepting bribes from Russian oligarchs (amid other charges). William McGonigal was the lead agent in the FBI's investigation of Russia collusion that brought down Donald Trump's presidency. That process was brought about by Hillary Clinton, who hired a DC law firm named Perkins Coie to fake up a dossier on Trump that the FBI then leaked to the news media. That law firm hasn't yet been charged with RICO violations, but it certainly should.
2) A Chinese FBI agent has been accused of perjury for telling Senate investigators under oath that he had no independent knowledge about Hunter Biden's laptop. Documents since discovered show that the Chinese FBI agent was lying.
So yeah, as you can see, the problem in the country is Donald Trump. He's the one threatening "our Democracy" you see.
Not the FBI agents on the take for the Russians and Chinese.
I need to feed the algorithm the idea that I want to question my cherished assumptions and the only way I know how to do that is by start watching something and see where it goes.
Jack Smith's big resume item that got him this job was to wrongly convict a Republican governor of VA, open the way for a Democrat to take over, and when his conviction was reversed based on the extreme stretches of the law and implausible legal theories used to convict him, it no longer mattered, because it was only about the election.
In a non-authoritarian country, Jack Smith would have been long since disbarred, not working as a hit man for the corrupt strong man, as we are seeing today in the US.
gilbar If the movie is a known block buster the film company will demand all of the gate for the first couple of weeks when there is the highest attendance. The threater makes their concession money. After the first coup;le of weeks the theater can start putting attendance money in their pocket. It's a sliding scale. Studios never make a profit. Their accounting is set up that way. They charge the film companies for everything. Which is why film companies like to use out of the way studios or have their own.

I suspect you're mixing up the Jan. 6th case and the Mar-a-Lago documents case.
So last week there were two articles about Zelensky in the media, one which Joe Biden "off the record blamed" his intransigence over Bakhmut for the weakening of the Ukrainian Army, and then for the failure of the offensive. Which, oddly was the Russian line on the battle, that they were grinding down the Ukraine army there.
The next one was that the Russians were planning an assassination attempt on Zelensky. Which led some to speculate that Zelensky was in the CIA crosshairs, and his head should be resting uneasy.
Well now such an attempt has happened, and you can be assured that the Russians will be blamed, even though Zelensky has been an incompetent commander in chief, and has played directly into Russia's strategy, and to get rid of him would be stupid.
"So for the DeSantis team to attempt to overtake Donald Trump on his strongest resonating issue, they must dismiss the election theft, and therefore “validate” the disgraceful RINO duplicity of Kinzinger and Cheney along with the other Democrats. "
"The end of the China Initiative, a Trump-era security program that prosecuted Chinese government agents involved in economic espionage and trade secret theft, adds to the growing skepticism about the Biden administration's dedication to national security."
Remember when bin Laden ordered his men *not* to kill Biden if they got a chance, because keeping him in power would hurt the US more?
Well, of course, it could have been that bin Laden was working for the CIA and the neocons, and so was protecting his boss, or it could have been the truth, and it could have been both.
"Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews, a Marine who survived the explosion in Kabul that killed 13 Americans, says that when Joe and Jill Biden came to his hospital room, the president reached out to shake his hand even though his arm was gone, immediately started talking about his son, and then leaned into his face and asked him "what do you want.""

Come to think of it, nor did Biden want bin Laden killed. He probably felt pretty bad about killing his operative.
