Given the fact that our society seems to be morphing into a totalitarian police state, I have been studying the fall of the Soviet Union. We really take it very much for granted these days, but if you had told Joe Stalin that the system he was building would not last two generations, he would have laughed uproariously as he had all your teeth ripped out and sent your extended family to the Gulag, with a bill for the extractions. I am struck by a quote from Zbigniew Brzezinski (?), who said that Soviet ideology "appealed to the simpletons and to the sophisticates alike. It made its subscribers feel self-righteous, correct and confident all at once. It left nothing uncertain." Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Ny Post:Times Square back to the bad old days: ‘It’s a sh-thole’
Times Square is looking a lot like its bad old self, with vagrants, boozy migrants, junkies, and scofflaws making the Crossroads of the World look more like the third world,
On three separate days over the past week, The Post saw junkies brazenly smoking crack pipes on West 43rd Street, drug dealers peddling their wares within eyeshot of cops, hobos conked out wherever they can find a spot, and scores of aimless migrants loitering the day away.

I wonder why things have changed.. You'd think with democrats running the show; things would be Better!

After my evening walk (96, one hour long walks, in 23 weeks; or a more than 192 miles)..
I stopped in downtown Elgin Iowa and foraged a hat full of Free Tomatoes, from the Free Tomatoes wagon.
Then i stopped at the Elgin Volunteer Fire dept, for their "We need a new firetruck" Pork Loin dinner.
I got in line, and a fireman said "you want two sandwiches.. Don't YOU?" I said "Sure Do!"
also got baked beans and potato salad (which i really didn't need carb wise.. But Yum!)

I asked "how much is it?" and they said: "It's Free.. But if you'd like to donate, there's the jar"
I put in $10, which seemed like a Good deal (for me!)

THEN, i walked over to the drinks table; and saw they had what looked like:
Apple Juice, Hawaiian Punch, Lemonaid.. And on the end, water.

before i saw the water, i was gazing at the fruit drinks, thinking: Too many carbs for me :(
I must have looked confused, 'cause another fireman said:
"There's Miller Light, Hawaiian punch, lemonaide, and water over there."
I said "water for me", and grabbed one as i realized that they were giving away free (will donation) beer along with the free (will donation) pork sandwiches.

a while ago, i asked what there was in this country to be proud of anymore...
I have to say, i'm PROUD to live in a country that Still has volunteer firedepts, that raise money by giving away free food and beer... GOD Bless America

It is illegal, but who gives a shit.

Marly Hornik did indeed provide nothing worth seeing. She quoted nonsense statistics concerning voter registrations which have nothing to do with votes cast in the 2022 NY elections.

There were a total of 12.6 million voters enrolled in state records for 2022. Less than 6.0 million votes were cast.

Audit NY "Discovered 308,840 excess voter ID numbers, which does not translate to illegal votes. How many of these excess voter IDs are related to actual votes? People die, move out of state, register at multiple addresses, etc. - and people do not give a shit when government records get screwed up.

Every time the Hellspawn (TM) have indicted Donald Trump, I have sent a donation to his campaign fund. Basically, just thinking, "If enough of us do this, and I have NO DOUBT we will, then Trump can claim, accurately, that he is raising mondo bucks thanks to the indictments." Which is nice. But I am starting to realize, this is beginning to add up to real money. Like, I may have to budget for this. So, how many Affirmative Action Soros DAs would you say there are in the US, anyway? Round figure. Fifty? I might need to sell some stocks. Probably oughta sell them anyway, this country is circling the drain.

So, you should be aware, that this is not only a hurt-hurt bomb, in the form of an emphasized pair of words that no decent, college-educated, good-looking blonde would ever want to use, or see used, or live in the same Universe with the use of, but this is also a meta-slur, because it's a "TRIGGER"!!!!! "The most stunning fact we discovered is that New York’s 2020 general election was certified as accurate with 338,000 more votes counted than voters who voted.

338,000 votes are simply unaccounted for. No one knows who cast them. That number should be zero.

We examined our findings against the standard for a valid election. The law is stringent, because the accuracy of our elections is what secures our government by consent. In fact, elections are part of our critical national security infrastructure.

So, what is the legal standard an election must meet, in order to be certified?

1. The voter rolls must be accurate.

2. Votes cast must be from eligible voters.

3. The number of votes counted must equal the number of voters who voted.

4. The maximum number of ballots in error, for a valid federal election, is 1/125,000 (see 3.2.1).

The law does not recognize “honest mistakes” when it comes to safe-guarding our individual sovereignty. Elections in America are accurate, or they are invalid.

When officials certify an election, they are attesting personally and officially to the accuracy and compliance of that election. If the election has wavered from the law, they can’t sign it as meeting the law. That would be a violation of our guaranteed civil right to choose our representatives. They have to investigate."

In the DC prolife trial which I am following (United States v. Handy) the jury is deliberating and a verdict is expected on Monday. It's extremely difficult to gather information on what was planned and what actually happened at the Washington Surgi-Clinic on October 22, 2020. The leader of the action was Lauren Handy and she was motivated by her knowledge that late term abortions were bring done at Washington Surgi Center. She saw a video in which the abortionist explained that he would not assist a baby born alive after an abortion. It's the law that the child must be assisted.

https://youtu.be/NxOWyumLufA

Those who came with Lauren Handy on that day had varying understandings of what they themselves would do and what others would do. Some expected a "Red Rose" action which in which prolifers enter a clinic by an unlocked door and talk to the mothers and the staff. This is trespass rather than FACE violation. Some carried locks and chains as if to block doors but then in actuality merely wore the chains.
All were outraged that an abortionist who expressed the intention of leaving a baby which survived an abortion to die was operating without the DC police intervening. But the group mirrored the chaotic US social scene in their inability to formulate a common plan of action. There were Red Rose members. There were evangelicals. There was a Jewish grandmother inspired by historical memories of Jews being marched their deaths without a word from the townspeople. And there was the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising to which Lauren Handy, the "leader" belongs.

wildswan said...

"Leader", however, implies a cis-het, linear understanding of Lauren Handy's relationship to the group. Lauren Handy was part of some Red Rose actions. But she came to feel that Red Rose was too Catholic, too old and too out-of-date. It was Facebook, not Instagram, she told them. It presented the child about to be aborted as an innocent person who could not be killed, an argument that left was ignoring.
Lauren Handy was sure that the left would respond with an anti-abortion uprising when she presented the unborn human as marginalized and othered by such descriptions as "blob of jelly", invader, "without human rights." She called her new group, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising and collected a small group of queer or trans, vegan, atheist progressives who were outraged by the treatment of vulnerable humans in abortion. They were particularly disturbed by the disregarded, lawless statements of the leader of the Washington Surgi Center and more generally by the late term abortions going on there. Viable children died there constantly. They decided to act and they sought allies in Red Rose and elsewhere. These allies were somewhat bemused by Lauren Handy and her group. They thought "she has a prolife heart" and that's not something often seen among people who characterize themselves as queer, vegan, atheist and trans. They were too devout to say WTF but their thoughts would wander in that vicinity. Perhaps for this reason there was no agreement or understanding on the type of action the group was going to engage in.
The trial was pretty much of a farce. It was presided over by senior Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, the first chief judge of the FISA court. Though she thought warrantless access by the government to the social media of Americans was quite all right she didn't like citizens engaging in warrantless access actions. She banned all information on the lawless statements by the abortionist of the Washington Surgi Center and all information on the amount of late term abortions. She allowed Planned Parenthood donors and abortion supporters to serve on the jury if they said they could be impartial. She called a nun making the sign of the cross "witness intimidation."
The various defendants had various lawyers because, I suppose, they had different understandings of the action. There was heroic testimony or, at least testimony that will be seen as heroic in a better day. The Judge and Prosecutor treated everything relevant with contempt and excluded as much reality as they could.
So what did the pro-abortion jury think? we'll see on Monday.
Many aspects of this trial are relevant to the way in which we can expect Trump's trial to go. In particular, there is the tainted jury pool and the willingness of the Judge to allow that to stand.

If one of us was actually on "X", they would have changed their avatar to an image of Klingon Discommendation - where the Klingons on the High Council cross their forearms in the "X" gesture and turn their backs on the Klingon being discommendated. There's symbolism there.

Most types of intelligence have a degree of learned behavior, which by its very definition can be taught. Emotional intelligence is effectually a skill. Being nice tends to be either a personality trait, or an adaptive skill. So you can teach someone the skills of emotional intelligence, you can even teach them how to do nice and kind things.

However, ultimately their motivation will determine their behavior. Just as you can teach a student chemistry, and they may use it to design better cigarettes, cook meth, or develop advanced sterilization methods for medical equipment.

Skills and behavior are not equivalent.
However, if you want to teach someone how to be for example, a good listener, that is entirely possible. Motivating them to engage in that behavior though is a whole other level of complexity. For anyone who has children, or is considering having children, teaching them these types of advanced social skills, and how to maintain them in a healthy way, are some of the biggest advantages that you can teach your children.

I have never seen someone genuinely happy from inheriting a million dollars. However, I have seen someone much happier as a result of inheriting a good sense of humor.
