About that Coliseum story. We can discard, deface a long-standing street name, military base name, with another name and that's not a problem. What's the difference between a street and a monument?

It seems to me that everything now days is open to reinterpretation. Why should the Coliseum be exempt? If motion picture tales are true, the Coliseum was a horrific place.

Bottom line is that we live in a near totally secular world, monuments do not hold a special place. We should stop pretending otherwise.

Conservatives go to red states and liberals go to blue as the country grows more polarized

"STAR, Idaho (AP) — Once he and his wife, Jennifer, moved to a Boise suburb last year, Tim Kohl could finally express himself.

Kohl did what the couple never dared at their previous house outside Los Angeles — the newly-retired Los Angeles police officer flew a U.S. flag and a Thin Blue Line banner representing law enforcement outside his house.

“We were scared to put it up,” Jennifer Kohl acknowledged. But the Kohls knew they had moved to the right place when neighbors complimented him on the display.

Leah Dean is on the opposite end of the political spectrum, but she knows how the Kohls feel. In Texas, Dean had been scared to fly an abortion rights banner outside her house. Around the time the Kohls were house-hunting in Idaho, she and her partner found a place in Denver, where their LGBTQ+ pride flag flies above the banner in front of their house that proclaims “Abortion access is a community responsibility.”

“One thing we have really found is a place to feel comfortable being ourselves,” Dean said.
"

Of course, it has nothing to do with the radicalization of Democratic Party leadership...

Did you hear that? That was the sound of Dems breaking another norm, shifting the Overton window on what's acceptable behavior.

In the 90's we learned that a President having sex with a White House intern was ok, and that only conservative prudes would object to this behavior.

Now we are entering the "everyone does cocaine at the White House" phase. Nothing to see here, only prudes and would object.

Helps your exoneration if you are a Dem. Seriously - do not try these if you are Republican.

There is an interesting documentary on Prime about how Henry VII, who overthrew Richard III, consolidated Tudor power by having a secret court whose decision were final that had the power to interfere in any trial, and by using finance to destroy his enemies, and by retroactively changing official history in order to make his enemies guilty of treason, that reminded me of the Biden administration. England was terrified by the abrogation of the precepts of any kind of previously recognized fairness in their justice system, perverting the rule of law to the rule of men. That's where we are right now.

By declaring that those who fought on the side of King Richard III at Bosworth Field were all traitors, even as they fought for their legitimate king at the time they fought, well, it's reminiscent of throwing J6 demonstrators in prison for simply wanting all legal remedies for a probably stolen election explored.

What's interesting is that the procedure Trump sought to use was perfectly legal and within the constitution until Nancy Pelosi rammed through the Electoral Count Act to make sure that it will in the future be far more difficult to challenge election results, no matter how solid the challenge in terms of facts.

Artificial intelligence has only been on the scene for a few months and already it is deteriorating into artificial stupidity. Apparently, it wrote some stories for Gizmo which contained wrong statistics embedded in 8th grade prose. And it won't apologize. Perhaps someone could explain "The dog ate my homework to it." It seems to be in need of these elementary dodges.

If Joe Biden declared himself President for Life, and designated his son Uday, err, I mean, Hunter as his successor, there would be people in these comment threads saying that it had to be done because Trump. Well, it turns out that the cocaine was found in a kind of restricted area of the WH, and of the small number of people who were there, "Yo No Hu" was one of them.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: "Cocaine in the West Wing, topless trans activists on the lawn, and a deviant First Son on parade - but it's Joe Biden's abhorrent refusal to recognize his grandchild that makes this White House truly depraved."

Meghan's dad would have been sad that she is shameful and totally unreasonable.

Crack cocaine found in the Whitehouse was not the property of Son One; the trans-activists were uninvited and were immediately removed from the lawn; and Hunter's Baby Mama and stripper didn't invite the Biden family to the birthday party (perhaps because she and her Daddy Rob prefer to give expensive guns to Don Jr. - potentially financed from Lundin's generous child support arrangement).

In this case, the Roman Colosseum was built in 80 AD and you can do the rest of the math.

That hasn't really held up, has it? Since Uday was one of a very small number of people who passed through that secure area.

And there is an interesting little clip of the Biden family at the WH, with Hunter darting about and rapidly wiping his nose with his fingers, and Jill, not looking normal.

Reminds of people on the right (mostly Instapundit and its blog satellites) trying to rehabilitate Francisco Franco, who declared that all people supporting the republic were traitors and he prosecuted and often executed them for the crime of loyalty to the legitimate democratically elected government.

Progressives suck. They let child rapists get a slap on the hand. The illegal family should be deported. Why are we letting these people into our country, when they encourage rape and abortion for little girls?? Her mother should be in prison next to the rapist, and they should both get raped repeated for 25 years. Sick, sick sick.

Former FBI Director, Lois Freeh, gave Joe Biden $100,000, to a foundation "for his grandchildren's education." Which is funny, because Hunter was actually paying their tuition. I wonder what other "expenses" that foundation covered? The laptop documenting so much Biden family corruption had a sticker for the Beau Biden Foundation on it.

Anybody ever satisfactorily explain why Joe and Hunter had commingled bank accounts?

@tim in vermont: "There is an interesting documentary on Prime about how Henry VII, who overthrew Richard III, consolidated Tudor power by having a secret court ..."

You are talking about the end of the Wars of the Roses in 1485 -- per a disputed royal lineage. English/UK history continued to bounce back-and-forth between monarchy and parliament/democracy for the next 200 years. After Henry VII, they had Henry VIII (the fat king with the drumstick). He wanted a male heir and tried 6 wives to get one. The pope wouldn't let him get divorced so he invented the Church of England with himself as the head of the church. He was a first generation Christian Protestant -- purely on political grounds.

Henry VIII was a brutal absolute monarch who executed many, burned down the Catholic monasteries, and killed many Catholics. He was followed by his daughter the pro-Catholic Queen "Bloody" Mary I...who in turn killed Protestants. The country then settled for a while with Queen Elizabeth I in charge ("the Virgin Queen").

Then, the English Civil War happened per a dispute over monarchic power. There were three key leaders: 1. Charles I as beheaded by the anti-monarchs in 1649, 2. the anti-monarchic rule of Oliver Cromwell who died naturally, and 3. Charles II (son of Charles I) brought back from exile in 1660 as a constitutional monarch (i.e., after that they put the king on a leash and subject to parliament ~~~> modern figurehead kings and queens).

The USA constitution strongly resembles the anti-monarch vision of Oliver Cromwell coupled with the desires for religious freedom of the era (i.e., ideological protestants rather than political protestants.) The USA was a "what might have been" version of English government. All-in-all, humans haven't proven to be stable in government and justice and fairness. We'll be lucky if we can stick to false imprisonments and avoid political executions...

People like Jill Scott are making people like me RACIST against them, because their hate for white people and America is disgusting. THEY are the RACISTS they call everybody else. Do they not realize there are still slavery in the world?? WHY aren't they using their millions to help REAL slaves??
If they hate America so much, then people like her, that have money, should leave and go find their utopia where blacks are treated like the Queen she thinks she is. She is lucky to be here. She and others just like her, including the fake Reverend Al Sharpton should get the hell out. Nobody would care, and it would make America Great Again.

There are some interesting parallels between the use of the Stationers Guild and the Court of the Star Chamber to punish the printing of heresy and dissent in the late 1500s and 1600s and the manner in which our current government seeks to use and control new technologies such as social media and generative AI. Control opposition is the name of the game.

I first noticed this when they got Bin Laden. We were on a long road trip so listened to the news on the radio for hours, continuously. I noticed the 'facts' kept changing. They continued to change into the next news cycle. The problem was, the ONLY source of information was the White House. A single source, and a changing story.

Now we have this story. Again, a single source of information, but the 'facts' keep changing.

And the left ignores ALL the LYING. Later today the White House will put out a statement on a different subject, that we are supposed to believe at face value.
