"Two developments over the last week significantly increased the likelihood that Donald Trump will be elected president next year."

At first, I thought this might be about the stellar RFK Jr. performance on Joe Rogan, but no. It's about Cornel West and No Labels.
First, Cornel West announced his candidacy for the presidency, first on behalf of the People’s Party, before switching to the Green Party. Next, No Labels revised its criteria, and now says it plans to run a third-party presidential candidate unless Joe Biden is “way, way out ahead” in polls....

So this is the problem of third party candidates, and RFK is not one of those. He's running for the Democratic Party nomination and challenging Biden to engage during the primary season. The Green Party and No Labels are lying in wait to spoil the general election.

Chait accuses West of giving a "word salad" answer to the question why he's choosing the third-party strategy and risking throwing the election to Trump. Chait quotes it in full, but it's tedious to read. It's as word-saladesque as anything West says — the sort of thing that's celebrated as eloquent when it serves interests West is not serving here. I'll just summarize: The Democratic Party doesn't care about low-income people.

Chait declares West "immune to consequentialist reason" — that is, unresponsive to the argument against spoiling it for Biden — and moves on to No Labels — which "has taken a cagier... posture" — that is, they'll at least address the problem of spoilage. But which way is it cagey? Chait quotes an adviser who says they'll "stand down" if Biden is way out ahead

Just keep shoving those same ballots thru the machines over and over... 3 am... long after the election is over.

Why should West's major motivation be against spoiling it for Biden? If one is worried about "word salad" answers, then why is Biden in the White House and Fetterman in the Senate? The Green Party wants a candidate, and West wants the job. Nothing really cagey about it.

I still do not think DJT can win a future general election.
I think any R will lose PA, WI, MI, GA, AZ, NV, CO, and VA.
We are fucked.

can't we ALL accept the fact; that people are required, BY LAW, to vote for the democrat?
It's IN the (living) Constitution people!!!!

In a way, it is about RFK. He won't win, because the dems will never allow a serious challenge to Biden in the primaries. However, in doing so the dems risk driving away his supporters. They may not vote for Trump, but they may very well protest by voting for west.

Chait remains a reliable source of the narrative from the control module of today's rulers. We may have five plausible candidates by the time we survive the next eighteen months or so. Or none. In any case, the election will take place as scheduled, as will the inauguration. As long as the control module remains in control, we'll be allowed to go with our lives. Any other option has to be anticipated and strangled in the crib.

Cornel West as spoiler? Please.

I'm struggling to think of anything cogent, insightful, or useful Chait has said since he went full "Israel is an apartheid occupier."

I found out yesterday that Vivek has a podcast. I watched him interview Bill Barr.

If Vivek loses, he could steal Rogan's audience.

The media dutifully lock-steps the narrative. ooo Crook Mob-husk puppet dementia Joe with 30% or less approval is in trouble. hahahaha...

Biden will win with millions and millions... in the bank. Bank on it. Just like his free above the law international bribe money is OK with the FBI. Tho, it might take a few days or weeks to *wink* *count allthe votes* since he is so popular and stuff.

While Florida can count the votes in one evening. Wisconsin, Micheal, Pennsylvania, and a few other choice states take much longer to "count"... It's complicated to *count* when the FBI mob-a-holes need their husk on top.

The same people who pushed that lie made wet markets even more cruel.

Democrats will not allow Donald Trump to be elected POTUS in the absence of a landslide so great that they can't steal it. They are shameless, even in the face of polls showing a majority believe elections are rigged (or something).

If a landslide occurs, look for something more drastic. After all, they have never been closer to the tyranny they seek.

The mediaswine will continue to cover for them whatever they do and the Murdochs have now taken Fox counterpunching out of play.

Shortly after losing the NH primary in 52 Truman pulled out of the race.

After winning a majority, but smaller than expected, in NH in 68 lbj pulled out.

Brandon has already said he will not run in NH next year. Absent something unforseen I think this gives NH to rfk. Can Brandon survive that? Is he even trying to?

Not to worry. Corrupt purple states (WI, MI, PA, GA, AZ) will ignore voting laws. They’ll figure out a way to keep a 3rd party candidate off the ballot. They will harvest ballots from graveyards and nursing homes. They will harvest ballots in broad daylight, as was done in Madison, WI, and then mix them with all other to erase any chain of custody. They will purposely same day voting in GOP areas (see 2022 Maricopa, AZ)

Many were worn out in 2020 just wanted to “move on”. Courts failed to provide relief. Even The Supreme Court failed by refusing to hear TX vs. PA and right this now forever crooked ship. Whoever the uniparty want in that office will “win”. The time to challenge and deal with voter fraud was 2020. Some great legal minds wanted to “move on” as well.

“Moving on” simply meant baking in the 2020 voter fraud. Running...to stand still.

Biden doesn’t look worried about anything. Won’t campaign or engage in debate. And he’s got prosecutors and the DOJ going after his rival. He has college educated white suburban women personally entrenched in Democrat propaganda. It’s now almost a new identity. Odds are stacked against Trump.

But that doesn’t mean abandon ship as was done in 2020. It just means accept the reality of our sinking National situation.

The anxious brooding of the Trump deranged. Chait still thinks Trump is the cause and not the effect. People like Chait can't see Trump's supporters as anything but inferior, backward and ultimately malignant because to do so they would have to see themselves differently and that would require a little humility. He's reflexively dismissive of West's very valid criticisms for the same reason. He can't understand why West won't just be a good dog and come to heel.

I saw a similar article (or the same one?) this past week, telling me that Cornel West was a danger to pull away Biden votes. But no mention of RFK Jr.

The entire premise is so ridiculous that embarrassment for the writer should be the only result. Cornel West will be lucky to pull the majority at a food truck in Brooklyn. And that might just be the extent of his reach.

The media is working too hard to ignore RFK Jr. and that will continue to blow up in their faces. Faces already covered in so much embarrassment as to make their entire industry the least regarded of any. 'Journalists' poll lower than Congresspeople. That takes some work.

Every election, people complain about the quality of the candidates. 50 years ago in Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, Hunter Thompson went on a rant, “for how long must we vote for the lesser of two evils? When is it our turn? When do we get to vote for someone instead of against someone?”

The answer is plain—you will be asked to vote for the lesser of two evils for precisely as long as you are willing to. You will be given someone to vote when you refuse to vote for anyone else, and not one day sooner.

Chait is the problem. The people he rails against provide the answer he refuses to see.

It looks like I’ll probably have to vote for a third party candidate this year, either that or not cast any ballot for president. I suppose it doesn’t matter since I live in Oregon which is a lock to cast its electoral votes for whoever the Democratic candidate is.

Liberals on cue are trying to juice up the chances of a successful Trump primary because it will be an easy win in the general. Like the Todd Akins fiasco in Missouri in 2014 where democrats purposely juiced his primary chances.

Although it blew up in their faces in 2016, they have things figured out like 2020. With Trump's own self-own help, they have made him toxic to independents.

Chait is just part of the regime media doing its job.

If you HONESTLY believe that neither party is addressing your concerns, than running and/or voting 3rd party makes sense. Otherwise, you're not only voting for the "lesser to two evils", you're voting for a party that will NOT address your concerns.

This has always been the conservative weakness. They constantly troop to the polls and vote for people like Mitt Romney, John McCain, Gerald Ford, Bob Dole, or Bush in 1992, even though these Pols had made it clear they weren't Rightwing and weren't going to do a damn thing they wanted. Looking back its hard to see what a difference it would've made if Ford had been elected instead of Carter, or Romney instead of Obama.

I'm dreadng 2024, because I have a strong feeling Utah Republicans are going to "fall in line" and support mitt Romney. Probably the dumbest thing ever, for anyone who's rightwing.

As per my observations among friends and acquaintances, few people on the left are invested in Biden. Democrats and moderates/independent women will most likely vote against the party that has taken rights away from them, so they will not vote for any Republican Party nominee unless that nominee would come out strongly as opposed to making abortion illegal and unavailable. As for voting third party, Democrats that do not want a Republican to win will not vote third party. The candidates on the left who might run on a third party ticket are not going to siphon enough votes away from the Democratic nominee to make a difference. IMO, it won’t be that close and if Trump makes it that far, he will lose by an even larger margin than 2020.

rcocean said...

BTW, the Green Party have always been fakes and frauds. I loved how they "accidently" got left off the Winsconsin Ballot in 2020. Y'see they had to wait till the last moment to file, and gave the powers-that-be a chance to say they filed too late.

Yeah, that wasn't intentional. it was just someone forgetting. WHoopsie.

There was no red wave last November, and no reason to think there will be one in 2024.

Something we don’t have is the Covid ‘pandemic’ - I believe this played a big part in Biden’s win: he didn’t have to actually campaign.

Any Republican president would have lost to Biden thanks to COVID. It was like 9/11 in that it terrified moderate voters and white suburbanites. Unlike 9/11, The GOP had no direct enemy to go after, which made it difficult to reassure those voters in the way Bush could with early victories in Afghanistan and Iraq. Meanwhile, the Dems didn't screw up like they did after 9/11, where too many were seen by voters as "not serious about terrorism." Instead, they went all-in on COVID panic and attacked Trump and the GOP as not serious about addressing it.

The problem is that they bungled their own response once in power, with masking children, keeping schools closed too long, and vaccine mandates. Combined with the admin's fuckups on the economy and foreign policy, and whatever good-will they had has been burned away.

Breezy said...

If Biden is the nominee, which I wholeheartedly doubt, there will be millions of votes third party. Well over half the country thinks it’ll be a disaster if he has a second term. Notably, people think even less of Kamala who, as Haley points out, is the one to campaign against. The Biden-Harris ticket is dying a slow and painful death.

Sometimes there are other issues more important than abortion so-called rights.

I'll just summarize: The Democratic Party doesn't care about low-income people.

And that would be a true statement by West. The Democrat Party cares about satrapies for people who are paid to "take care of" the poor while donating lots of money to Democrat candidates.

The Democrat Party HATES teh concept of actually making the lives of low-income people better.

Chait declares West "immune to consequentialist reason"

Translation: Chait declares West care more about a principle, than he does about power for the Democrat Party.

Which is to say, Chait's big "attack" on West is that Chait is a morally wretched and unprincipled monster who doesn't care about anything but power, and West isn't.

All of this spoiler talk starts from a false premise - that one of the two parties is inherently entitled to your vote. Neither is. They both need to earn it. third-party candidates also have the chance and the obligation to earn your vote. This kind of thinking - that there is such a thing as a spoiler - is misplaced and harmful to the system. It contributes to why we get low quality candidates. Make them earn your vote. And, don't give it to them if they don't.
