I think it is 87% (how is that for bs precision) likely DJT gets the R nomination. Ron D of FL has the best shot, but he has to go against type, role the dice, and have brass balls.
I propose he do the following. Declare the federal debt and deficit America's number one threat (greater than any foreign threat, climate change, etc.), and propose the following against type measures.
1. Take the cap off Social Security taxation limits. Now the limit is around 160k. 2. Take the estate/gift taxes back to the levels at 1/1/2001.Sorry GWB. 3. Eliminate itemized deductions on 1040 tax returns. 4. Eliminate carried interest loophole. 5. Raise marginal tax rates on incomes greater than 200k and higher. Much higher above 1 million. 6. Most importantly, he should say that he believes in low tax rates in the long run, but the debt and deficit are so serious now. 7. Tax college endowments. 8. Propose royalties and such connected to entertainment industry, because passive in nature, are to be taxed at a rate higher than the ordinary income tax rate.
He should say a Republican is better to do this because he does not believe in Robin Hood redistribution. He needs to focus on "we".
Will this happen? We all know the answer.
But if you propose these ideas to the 2 broad groups of Republicans, cultural conservatives vs economic conservatives, economic conservatives will be overwhelmingly against these ideas, whereas I speculate cultural conservatives might overall be in favor.

Thanks to a Scott Adams tweet, I discovered that trying to verify whether an election has actually been honestly held has led to higher morbidity among the young. Of course I wanted to read the study that this was based on, and it turned out that it was. something called "SDI" and so I went to the paper that the SDI was based on, and the first words in it were "Donald Trump."
There was some good news though, Democracy is really strong in states that Joe Biden won, like Arizona, where printers failed on Election Day in heavily Republican areas, and where signatures were never verified other than to maybe show that some signature existed, not whether it matched.
So next time you wonder why it was that they ran out of ballots on Election Day in heavily Republican precincts in Pennsylvania, for example, please be aware that you are killing young people with your baseless concerns about things that are none of your business.
Among other things I've never worried about- it's size. Just checked for scientific purposes, and I'll likely forget since for 68 years it was unimportant to know and still is- 5 inches getting up to 5.5. Not a big difference- but according to the previous post on the subject- slightly above average.
Has there ever been an Althouse post on "foreskin envy"? That's also a real thing. And like size, mostly obsessed about by the gay male part of the population. I recall exactly when I found out about foreskins. When my uncle told me a joke- which of course I'm going to tell here.
An American general was over in Germany and a Field Marshall invited him to reviww the troops. As the review went on, the Field Marshall mentioned "As you see, we do everything by ze numbers. Why, we haven have our men piss by ze numbers!"
"Wow! That would be impressive. Can I see that in action?"
"Certainly. Captain! Prepare ze men piss by the numbers!" And the order was relayed down.
The field marshall then ordered "men, Piss by ze numbers. "One!" They all zopped down. "Two!" They all pulled their peckers out. "Three!" They all pulled their foreskin back. "Four!" They all pissed. "Five!" They all pushed their foreskins back into place. "Six!" They all put their peckers back in their pants. "Severn!" They all zipped out.
The general was astounded. He asked the Field Marshall- "Can I try that" "Certainly. Captains!" Prepare ze men to piss by the numbers for the American General!" The orders were relayed down. The American General started the orders. "One!" They all pulled their zippers down. "Two!" They all pulled their peckers out. "Three!' They all pulled their foreskins back. "Five" They all pushed their Foreskins back forward." "Three!" "Five!" "Three!" "Five!" "Three!... Five!...Three!..Five!..Three!.Five!Three!Five!-3-5-3-5-3-5" He then turned and said 'Stop them now Field Marshall."
And I didn't laugh. My uncle looked at me quizzically and said "You didn't think that was funny?" And I replied "What the heck is a foreskin?" I had no clue. So he explained, and once I knew, yeah, it as funny. And I've repeated the joke many times.
Never missed having one. Seems the nursing profession much more then doctors are obsessed with foreskins- they were the ones that tried to talk us out of having our 4 sons circumcised. My wife very emphatically to the more insistent nurse that it was going to happen. It is very much a health decision. Except for the population that considers it a religious observation. But even then- does that religious obligation come from a long ago lost in the mists of time realization it was healthier?
Breasts? I prefer them natural. No need to enhance them. Women with plumped lips are, quite frankly, horrid looking. Wrinkles? Come naturally with age- learn to live with them. Baldness? Happens to some- at 68 I still have all mine- in glorious gray. Or as one younger female acquaintance of mine said- distinguished silver, not gray like others. (Don't ask me- I don't know the difference.)
Something I have wondered but never obsessed about? What would it be like to be female instead of male. We've probably all entertained that thought at least once. But- I also have the knowledge to know that that's not a possible thing, so I'll always be left to wonder, never knowing. Those doctors doing surgery for the obsessed are engaging in medical malpractice.
To talk about something that hasn't appeared in a while- dishwashers. Since removing phosphates from dishwashing detergent, everyone has been complaining their dishwashers don't work as well. Well, it's the detergent, not the machine. Well, as I've mentioned before, a small amount of sodium triphosphate- the real stuff, not TSP substitute, and sodium tripolyphosphate to your detergent helps. Found something else.
A few months back I had some sort of slimy film on my dishwasher. Appeared out of nowhere one day, wasn't a slow buildup. Standard advice for cleaning a dishwasher interior-run vinegar through a wash cycle. So I got some cleaning vinegar, put it in a bowl, and set the wash cycle. Didn't tough the stuff. So I thought- Bleach! That cleans stuff. So I set a bowl of bleach in there, ran it through a cycle, and my dishwasher came out looking as clean and shiny as new. So I thought- what if I added some for the wash cycles? And my dished are not only noticeably cleaner, but obviously disinfected. Doesn't take much. I have some tiny plastic containers from the Dollar Store. Clip one to the wire rack, add a tiny amount of bleach, then wash. Try it out. I'm certain you'll be pleased with the results.
This probably won't be seen until morn, but it's a good opportunity to say that--as much as this place is my favoritest place of all the places to go on the Interwebs--one of today's themes might have been "Why Narr Didn't Go To Law School."
My head spins and my stomach lurches, or vice versa, at all that chaff.
See you in the a.m., provided the storm overnight leaves us with power. They've been very destructive of late.
Political Junkie wants Ron DeSantis to commit political suicide and take the Republican Party with him. No. Let’s not do that. I’m not for DeSantis but not even I want him to destroy his political career. I would like Congress to end the charitable tax deduction. That won’t happen for the above reasons but it would solve a lot of problems.
It's full on mango season in my front yard, and it will continue until the end of July. We collect about a dozen a day, which doesn't include what the neighbors take, or what the rabbits, ducks, birds, and rodents ruin. I make a point to eat at least two a day, and we will freeze much of the cut fruit. Shipped a dozen to my brother. My parents get some, the pool guy gets some, the landscapers get some, the staff and patrons at the local dive bar get some, and random door-knockers get some too. Mangos for everyone.
I read that RFK jr said that nowhere in history have the censors been the good guys. That rings true, whatever the guy is he has some moral sense, much lacking in most politicians. Trump and Desantis should start quoting and agreeing with him to the media on some of these sensible things.
I know that the people who blacked out information in the letters of GI’s who wrote home, they were not all bad, just trying to keep operational info from the enemy. Yea, if you are in government service you can’t say anything you want, there are limits. Like FBI and CIA leakers, ha ha ha.
And laws that keep 5 year olds out of strip shows and from reading porn in libraries are not bad, otherwise why do we have R rated movies?
If we allow censoring we need open rules, not easy.

Take a peek behind the curtain at the support for Donald Trump. Who are these people? Primarily middle-to-lower class people on the economic ladder. You know ... deplorables. Amazing how the Commie-Pinkos on the left have flipped and now despise these people.
I'm a blueberry guy myself. Put whipped cream over them for desert. Or microwave 1/3 cup of them for 30 seconds and pour over vanilla ice cream. What a treat!
A free-love utopian community was perking away in Manhattan from 1957 through the '60s,'70s and '80s. The Sullivanians, named for the dubious psychotherapy organization The Sullivan Institute (a name itself filched from another, better-known therapist), were driven by a conviction that mothers are the root of all evil and that children should be raised by The Village. It included some big names like Jackson Pollock, Judy Collins and novelist Richard Price, at one point or another, according to this review in the WSJ; the group lasted 35 years.
"Malaria, an infectious disease once a leading cause of death in the United States, was eradicated in the 1950s. However, a recent health warning issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has raised concerns about a potential resurgence of this deadly mosquito-borne disease.
So far, five cases of malaria infection that occurred on U.S. soil have been identified—four in Florida and one in Texas, Reuters reported. This is the first local spread of the disease in 20 years.
The first case in Florida was diagnosed on May 26 in Sarasota County, while Texas officials announced on June 23 that a state resident who worked outdoors in Cameron County had been infected.
Florida officials determined that the cause of malaria in these cases was the Plasmodium vivax species, and all four patients received treatment and successfully recovered.
Texas officials are investigating whether there have been any additional infections in the state, noting that the last locally acquired case in Texas dates back to 1994.
The CDC’s health warning indicates a growing risk for the U.S. population, Dr. Eric Cioè-Peña, emergency medicine physician at Staten Island University Hospital and vice president of Global Health, told The Epoch Times. “Malaria is a serious disease that can be fatal, and its presence within the U.S. is a cause for concern,” he said.
What Is Causing the Comeback? Cioè-Peña noted that the emergence of new malaria cases in the United States could be attributed to various factors.
“One possibility is the importation of the disease by travelers returning from regions where malaria is prevalent,” he said.
A 2013 study found evidence suggesting that malaria is no longer restricted to forested regions and is influenced mainly by population movements, particularly those moving to agricultural regions, as stagnant waters in such areas provide suitable breeding sites for mosquitoes."
