"Why non-White people might advocate white supremacy."

Philip Bump feels called to explain (at WaPo) after a man named Mauricio Garcia killed 8 people in a shopping mall in Texas. There's reason to think that Garcia held white supremacist/neo-Nazi beliefs because he wore a patch with the letters "RWDS," which, we are told, stands for "Right Wing Death Squad."

Maybe the letters don't really mean that or maybe Garcia didn't know the meaning, and maybe Garcia was white, but the point of Bump's column is to assume, based on the name, that Garcia was non-white and that he wore the patch because he was a white supremacist and then to try to explain why.

Bump's first point is that the category "white" is "malleable" and many Hispanic people identify as white, even if they have darker skin.

Bump's second point is that "white supremacy" may be less about race than about "Western civilization." It may not seek race-based superiority but to preserve the "structures of power that largely benefit Whites."

If you don't understand why non-white people might advocate white supremacy, Bump says, it's because you are too "rigid" in your understanding of "white" and "supremacy."

ADDED: Overheard at Meadhouse:
Seems we’ll be hearing all about this Texas shooter’s white supremacy ideology while the Nashville trans Christian school shooter’s manifesto needs to be kept covered up for our own good

Yeah, I was just working on a blog post about that non-white white supremacist in Texas

I can take Mr. Bump's words and logic and make a case for evangelical white supremacy, if I were so inclined. It's not that difficult. If Mr. Bump was truly afraid of white supremacy as a majoritarian stance leading to an existential condition, he'd probably realize that as he was writing those words. I'm not getting that from him.

Guns = Nazis = White People. Got it. Murder. Death. Kill. Nuance from our legacy press. The important thing is to set the narrative early and stick to it when there is this kind of opportunity to do so. Good job. I'd ask for a treat, Mr. Bump.

Or maybe Right Wing Death Squad as a phrase needs to be contextualized. It entered the lexicon as a pejorative descriptor for right leaning South American militias fighting against populist/marxist movements or governments.

Perhaps a person with South American heritage might associate with that term for reasons that absolutely nothing to do with American racial issues ... Perhaps the confusion is not about a rigid understanding of "white" and more about the American left's decision that any group who espouses conservative views is necessarily linked to White Supremacy.

Balfegor said...

I think the simplest explanation of all these non-White supposed "White supremacists" is that the term is misused -- that the phenomenon described is not "White supremacy" at all (at least not as ordinarily understood) but something quite different that is now being labelled (misleadingly) as "White supremacy." Maybe, as Bump suggests, it's a valorisation of Western culture and civilisation. Hispanics have at least as much claim to that heritage as descendants of the Angles and Saxons and other Germanic peoples from the barbarous periphery of Roman civilisation.

Another alternative is that journalists are conflating "White supremacy" with "anti-Black" (either "Black" as a racial category or just Black American culture). If that's the case, it shouldn't be at all surprising to find large (and increasing) numbers of non-White "White supremacists."

There are pictures of the shooter circulating on Twitter with his SS and swastika tattoos. This guy also maintained a profile on the Russian social network OK.RU.

“A social media account that appears to belong to gunman Mauricio Garcia is filled with bigotry toward women, Jewish people, and racial minorities.

The existence of the profile, which glorifies murder and Nazis, was previously revealed by The New York Times, which reported that investigators are looking into the account. Bellingcat researcher Aric Toler identified the account on Monday, along with a corresponding YouTube account on which the shooter, Mauricio Garcia, posted his face and name. Although investigators have yet to announce a motive for the killing, the OK.ru account chronicles more than three years of an apparent fixation with Nazis.

Some of the account’s most recent posts appear to foreshadow the mass killing. On April 16, it uploaded a series of pictures outside the Allen Outlet Mall’s H&M entrance, where Garcia would later open fire. It also shared screenshots of a page indicating the mall’s busiest hours. In late April, the account shared pictures of body armor laden with magazines for a rifle. The bulletproof vest had a patch reading “RWDS,” an acronym for “right wing death squad.” Law enforcement had previously referenced the patch when identifying Garcia as a potential politically motivated extremist. The following day, the account posted pictures of a torso (presumably Garcia’s own) tattooed with a swastika and Nazi SS bolts, alongside a caption railing against “diversity.”“

Instead, they seem to have erased has social history, and amazingly, removed the one picture they have of the guy (dead). But that seems to happen whenever the Narrative differs from reality, esp when we have these mass shootings of Whites in gun free zones. There are allegations that the shooter is, again, transsexual. Can’t have a narrative of leftist trans activists engaging in mass shooting.

I have a couple theories on this guy, beyond him being a Mexican nazi.

1) Incel. Incels might revert to being "nazis" or whatever in a way to "reverse peacock" and explain why they can't get a female. "They'd like me but i'm too hardcore for them" - also its provides a theoretical in group for loners, or make someone feel stronger than they do by being "master race"

2) Attention. So you're gonna committ a massacre to get media attention, but how can make sure they pay attention? The Trans shooter had a whole manifesto that we can't see. But you know a few nazi things and BOY THE MEDIA WILL HIGHLIGHT MY STORY NOW.

3) He could just be a Neo-Nazi, but we should note his target: a mall. He killed...white people. So, I think the motivation was not political. If it was, hitting a synagogue or black church would have made more sense.

CRazy people sometimes latch onto a rationale for their planned attacked - Giffords' shooter had an elaborate fixation on grammar. But ready to install Nazi, Anarchist, or Islamic Fundamentalist might be tempting, too.

People like Bump think of "white supremacy" as a kind of stand-in for western civilization. Normal people think of "white supremacy" as meaning white losers, coping with being losers by imagining that they are some sort of master race.

If a person has Nazi tattoos or wears patches in line with white supremacy as understood by normal people, it takes a weird leap of logic to assume that someone in this garb has much understanding about the principles of western civilization, let-alone any affinity towards it.

To put it more clearly, Bump's version of white supremacy was rejected by actual Nazis, so why would neo-Nazis be fans?

"White Supremacy" refers to the view, common among Europeans and Americans at least until the end of the 19th century, that white people could and should rule over the other races. This isn't difficult to understand. The people who colonized the Americas, Africa, Australia, India and SouthEast Asia obviously felt that doing so was OK. But while a great many people feel a certain nostalgia for that era, I don't think there is any very serious desire to recolonize the shithole nations. It didn't work out very well, at least not for white people. The White Man's Burden was way too heavy.

Interesting questions being asked re: the not-white-"white supremacist":

- Why was the shooter misidentified several times?
- The shooter wasn't white.
- How were his neo-Nazi affiliations discovered?
- There was speculation about whether the visible tattoo on the (confirmed) shooter's hand was a gang tattoo, based on the practices of the prison gang Tango Blast, whose members have tats of the cities they're from.
- The alleged shooter's Nazi tattoos are fresh
- The alleged shooter's account on OK dot RU was made a few months ago, it had zero interactions
- The photos of his body with Nazi tattoos are all headless
- The person who discovered the OK dot RU profile is a Bellingcat researcher, a NAFO member, and the same guy who discovered the Discord leaks of the top secret Pentagon files.
- The alleged shooter's profile praised the transgender terrorist in Nashville
- The shooter posted Tim Pool's content on his profile, with zero interactions. They're currently being highlighted by the researcher and others.

I wonder if we have another Vegas shooter-type scenario here?

Balfegeor puts a key point at the end of his comment: what the mass media is dishonestly calling "white supremacy" is--if it is anything ideological at all and not just the random actions of crazy violent people--is really widespread "anti blackness."
There are substantial fractions of Latinos and Asians who pretty openly express that they hate African Americans and think most white Americans are either cowards for not saying what they assume most whites feel, or idiots for not actually despising black people.
The 2020 riots only exacerbated these tensions within the slowly dissolving racial/ethnic coalition that has to this point been essential for Democratic Party power. The "white supremacy" narrative is a desperate attempt to keep Latinos and Asians inside the fold (and to continue to accept being subordinate to African Americans). The results of our current experiment in law non-enforcement, however, make the white supremacy narrative a tougher sell with every day that goes by, which is probably why big, dramatic incidents are required.

I'll predict a future in which TV talking heads are nothing more than beautiful graphics with an AI voice!!

Hey!! Consider the cost savings!!!

The Red Headed Libertarian chimes in:

"So that I’m clear on this, a Jewish lady and a milquetoast fence sitter radicalized a Mexican neo nazi from a Russian website into slaughtering white Texans according to the CIA operative who broke the story."

It sure seems awfully convenient and tidy....as we witness the parallel continued purposeful blackout on the radical trabs mass murderers manifestos and other writings.

Its almost like there is some sort of plan afoot....

A National Socialist. Yes, steeped in diversity [dogma] (i.e. color judgment, class-based bigotry). A person may even advocate for diversity to get a paying gig for the regime at WaPo etc. They may even be an advocate for the wicked solution (e.g. abortion), clinical experiments with underage subjects, etc. The Nazis also accused the Jews of having privilege, of possessing excess capital, racism (or ethnocentrism), etc. Today, some even classify Jews as "white", Hispanics, too.

According to "Susan Benesch, the executive director of the Dangerous Speech Project", genocidal leaders often use fear of a looming threat [e.g. "white supremacy"]...

and treat people in color blocs (e.g. "people of color", "fetus", Jude) in order to socially distance them from the population.

As regards the Sutherland Springs shooter, you're right. Seems, according to a DoD spox, they're hundreds of names behind in getting such losers into the no-gun data base.

I think the survivors and next of kin are suing for big bucks.

Sort of like the female gymnasts Wray & Co. told to pound sand.

If only there were a way to get that settlement money from the pension fund instead of the general..

If everything is malleable, then nothing means anything, anymore.
The general public believe those who interpret what’s going on in this world… when they are actually fomenting disunity and discord.

Malleable. What a sad word it is in this instance.

There are pictures of the shooter circulating on Twitter with his SS and swastika tattoos. This guy also maintained a profile on the Russian social network OK.RU.

Note the government is not making any claims. Just feeding you carefully curated, edited, likely fabricated, content.
Much like the "51 past intel officials" never made factual claim. Never looked at any evidence, did not see any content...all 51 reached exactly the same statement."we have no evidence, but this looks like that....but they never 'looked'.

We have access to the social media accounts fed to us by the Govt. NOT all that exist.

The media is doing their job, by not running down any leads to all the people this perp knows.

The govt propaganda Dept is finally get its legs under it and getting their story out first, and hiding conflicting facts. After 4 trans mass shooters, in five years, the govt needed this win.

Diversity [dogma] (e.g. racism, sexism, ageism, classicism) progresses with leverage of fear (e.g. allegations of color supremacy), envy (e.g. promises of redistributive change), hate (e.g. albinophobia), relief (e.g. "burden"), and catastrophe (e.g. "climate change").

It's a fair point that we don't know enough about the Tennessee shooter's motivations. It should be said, however, that what we know about the Allen shooter has mostly been dug up online and not released by law enforcement (they have also found pictures of him with swastika tattoos, which seems to make the white supremacy question less ambiguous).

Ironically, sufferance for the delusions of the Left is provided by Western Civ.

And, as far as I'm aware, by no other system.

Crack! It's good to see you back here!

I don't recall who made the comment, but someone up thread mentioned how in our current public milieu only white people can be racist although we all know that there are other ethnicities that are commonly and virulently racist.

The answer usually provided is that "racism" is not just animus toward other "races." It must include (because of Critical Theory) an element of power. So you can only be racist if you're in the class - er, I mean race - that holds the power.

So it's vitally important right now to "prove" the existence of inherent bias and systemic racism. Because if these things don't exist, it becomes (I should say, it is increasingly becoming) way too hard to make the claim that society's power is in the hands of white people. And if it becomes undeniable that white people don't hold the reins and wield the lash in our society, what happens to racism, or accusations thereof, as a driver, particularly of votes?

So yeah, non-white people like Larry Elder can be white supremacist but only white people can be racist.

The left uses "white supremacy " because it would be unpopular to use the term "civilization ", which they are against. It's Tribalism forever for that group of overeducated idiots.

It's been said for some time that if a "hot" race war comes to the US, it will not be white vs black; it will be mestizos vs blacks.

And the part I've bolded is significant, too. A lot recent black/mulatto immigrants from the Carribean/Africa have contempt for "Ghetto Culture".

Hmmm. Frankly, democrats murdering democrats is fine by me. It's that other 10% I'm worried about. Plus, Democrats can't aim very well.

I’m so glad we have Inga here to scour the bowels of the DNC-Media Twitterverse to repeat unfounded rumors that the EU-funded “journalist” posted (along with the caveat he had not “verified the ‘facts’ yet” before he locked down his account and went silent. The photos of actual Mexican Nazis in Mexico who are NOT the shooter, as Balfegor noted yesterday, does nothing to add to the story but does have “all the classic earmarks” of a CIA propaganda operation. Reader be wary.

Funny how the social media platforms all obediently scrubbed the Nashville murderer’s digital trail but left seeming clues to the TX killer. Equally puzzling is why a Hitler lover would ONLY shoot white and white hispanics at a mall in the black part of Allen. The ly just don’t make racists like they used to.

This is the scary part. Someone is ready to go, and swings into action on a moments notice, to cleanse social media before anyone on the right can get at it. They are getting better and better at this spin/narrative projection and inconvenient fact suppression. Because I am suspicious and cynical, I assume these days that if social media and photos disappear very quickly after a shooting incident, that there is a reason the left doesn’t like the facts, and wants them suppressed in order to advance their narrative.

What are these "structures of power that largely benefit whites?"

Drago said...

Why leftists might want to ask this question: "Why non-White people might advocate white supremacy."

Because the political "market" on the left for more "white supremacy" incidents is vastly larger than the supply, so its time to expand those definitions and categories to get the numbers needed!

Thus far I'm only surprised that the feds haven't claimed the shooter yelled "This is MAGA country!", or alternatively "Esta Tierra es MAGA!"

But the day is still young and the feds and media have lots of free bodies floating around to generate just these kind of dem-aligned talking points, so we'll see how it goes.

It's my view that people that festoon themselves in nasty tattoos and in particular, facial tattoos, are exhibiting anti-social tendencies, a warning sign to civil society. It's a manifestation of their mental make-up, not necessarily an ideological statement. These are people who are capable of killing indiscriminately.

these leftists want to blame everything on "White supremacy" or racism or sexism or transphobia or some other stupid made up nonsense and when there is a big bright shiny example of why that's just stupid, made up nonsense, they make up some more stupid nonsense, pretend words have different meanings that commonly understood, and voila! they're magically correct again. Rinse, repeat. These people have small intellects and the only ones they fool are stupider than them. It's Calvin Ball.
