In reading Sleeping With the Enemy - Coco Chanel's Secret War, the number of German troops in Paris/France during the war was mentioned. I can't recall/find the number, maybe was a 1 million. While there are huge differences between the Nazi Germany invasion of France and what has happened along the southern U.S border over the last 40 years, consider that over that time period the number of illegal alien crossings is probably between 30 and 50 million.

Someone asked a while ago if the Obamas were ever going to produce any movies. "Rustin" is expected out this year, maybe soon. Bayard Rustin is a fascinating figure in the civil rights movement, where his homosexuality forced the movement to keep him lurking just off the very front lines. There is an existing movie, "Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin," that came out in 2003 or so with great real footage from the '50s, '60s, and '70s of this charming, charismatic, contradictory character. The town of West Chester, PA, where Rustin grew up, sponsored a showing earlier this year that I went to. The mayor's family had known Rustin well back in his day, so she had a few points to add that made it seem particularly local and accurate. I strongly suspect that this documentary will tell you a lot more of the truth about Bayard than the Obamas' theatrical production will.
Excerpt from Matt and Walter this week podcast about the Durham report.
Walter Kirn: It’s though somebody put up their hand in 2009 or so and said, “We’ve just investigated 9/11, and found out it didn’t happen. It was a video. It didn’t actually occur, but all of the wars and affluent activities that came from it are still in place and we need to protect them.”
It was the ultimate “Oh, that?”
And you talk about how the Durham report has landed to a silence. Well, what other option do people who’ve won Pulitzers for reporting on something that didn’t happen have but to be quiet?
I mean, they can’t really argue that it did happen now. And they can’t really argue that we should be able to report on things that didn’t happen as though they did, because the issues themselves are important. Getting Donald Trump was such an overriding concern that making stuff up was called for.
So they’re stuck. Everybody just has to troop on in this strange double-think way in which we know it didn’t happen, but it was very important anyway, and we had to change our system and our values around to accommodate this thing that didn’t happen.
Matt Taibbi: Even if they wanted to honestly, there would be no way logistically to handle this information. What would you do? Would you have have a special broadcast where Lawrence O’Donnell goes on the air and says, “In light of some new information, basically everything that we’ve talked about on this channel for the last seven years, we’re going to have to retract…”

Yes, like how about the one that broke down in the first race, trained by Bob Baffert who a few hours later had one of his horses win the Preakness? Yes, it was the most lackluster field for the Preakness in at least 50 years, but the trophy and the check are still real. Without Mage in there, it wouldn't even have merited a Grade 1.
And Mr. Baffert, with so many dead horses in his wake over the years, found a way to get another over the finish line first. I couldn't listen to the interview once he started the poor-poor-pitiful-me act. Even the most charming horse-doper in the business has finally worn out his welcome, IMO. How many people see him, finally, as little more than an outlaw? But he still has owners, doesn't he? People who entrust him with their valuable racehorses.

Hanson was wrong, as usual, when he said that the Durham report implicates Clinton, not Trump.
There’s something grotesque and unethical about John Durham’s conduct that has gotten little attention. After getting his ass handed to him by two juries and one judge, Durham nevertheless repeated the allegations in his report against Michael Sussmann and Igor Danchenko on which they have been acquitted.
Conspiracy theories don't cut it when Durham spent four years trying to disprove what Mueller and the GOP Senate Intelligence Committee had already proven to be true. Russia wanted to help Trump win and he took all the help he could get and asked for more.
Through the mists that obscure everything about Bakhmut City in the Ukraine War it seems that Wagner Group, a Russian private Army which was doing the effective fighting in Bakhmut, has fought its way all the way across the city, suffering 10,000 casualties in the process of destroying the city. Having reached the other side a day ago, Wagner Group, incredibly, is now abandoning its prize. Having fought so hard to capture Bakhmut that a formerly thriving city now resembles the Warsaw Ghetto on its last day, Wagner is leaving in the next three or four days. The regular Russian Army will take Wagner's place on May 25. This allows less time for planning the changeover than went into the Afghanistan withdrawal. It may be that the Ukrainians are advancing to the left and right of Bakhmut, enveloping it, and Wagner, in the center, knows something and is getting out of Dodge. Maybe it's some kind of Russian trick, some 3-D chess alignment that we won't understand till the traps shut behind the UAR. Maybe something better.

When Gorsuch decries the loss of civil liberties during Covid and Mutaman responds sarcastically with: "Gee I had to wear a mask", it only amplifies the fact you cannot debate a liberal. It's a waste of time. Don't bother.

"What's going on now is, look at the meeting we had here today and yesterday of the Quad. I bet you, I would- maybe some of you thought it, but I doubt many people in this audience or any other audience would have said that two years after being elected I'd be able to convince India, Australia, Japan, and the United States to form an organization called the Quad to maintain stability in the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea."
I was at a soccer game recently in Madison and saw a middle aged couple huddled next to each other wearing what looked to be double layer masks..outdoors.
"According to McFarland, the FBI, DOJ, and CIA have gotten away with it for two elections and will do it again in 2024 because there’s no consequence.
“The difference is, in 2024 the evidence is there,” she said. “We now have the Durham investigation. We have all the congressional investigations. There is now hard evidence that there was election interference by the US intelligence agencies and the Department of Justice.”
“Those individuals have to be terrified that a Republican president comes in in the 2024 election with a Republican Attorney general, investigates them and charges them all with the crimes they’ve committed over the last eight years,” she added."
Rep. Byron Donalds demolished Chuck Todd in a Meet the Press interview yesterday. “That’s just salacious and you know it”. He’s brilliant, thoroughly prepared, and just plain awesome.

The Ukrainians aren't enveloping anyone. Troop rotations are normal ops.
Maybe the Ghost of Kiev will lead a new counter-attack....flying an F-16.
Serious Question Assuming, that the Ukrainians EVER Actually put Any F-16's into the air.. When the 1st one is shot down.. Will Any "News" reports report it?

Maybe it's some kind of Russian trick, some 3-D chess alignment that we won't understand till the traps shut behind the UAR. Maybe something better.
When Gorsuch decries the loss of civil liberties during Covid and Mutaman responds sarcastically with: "Gee I had to wear a mask", it only amplifies the fact you cannot debate a liberal. It's a waste of time. Don't bother.
Beautiful photo.
"He could care less that medical personnel treating COVID patients always wore N95 masks and he didn't care that five of the justices were highly susceptible seniors over 65 including Stephen Breyer, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, and John Roberts. Only Sotomayor attended remotely because she sits next to Gorsuch and is also diabetic."
No matter how much is revealed, Jabfly is never gonna understand. Gorsuch did.
Jabfly resents him for not being duped.
Understandable.
BUT he is LYING again as usual.

As usual, Gadfly still believes the Steele Dossier was vetted and honest. One day, he'll produce that pee tape as evidence.
Rep. Byron Donalds demolished Chuck Todd in a Meet the Press interview yesterday. “That’s just salacious and you know it”.
He’s brilliant, thoroughly prepared, and just plain awesome.
Love VDH....Asking the questions, that nobody in congress (besides Matt Gaetz, MTG and a few others) have balls enough to ask....

Ever wonder why peace talks are off the table in Ukraine? Off the table by the US that is.
I would love to know what Gadfly is on. And maybe take a half CC less.
Wildswan: "It may be that the Ukrainians are advancing to the left and right of Bakhmut, enveloping it, and Wagner, in the center, knows something and is getting out of Dodge."
The Ukrainians aren't enveloping anyone. Troop rotations are normal ops.
Maybe the Ghost of Kiev will lead a new counter-attack....flying an F-16.
Republicans are F'ed with or without Trump.
"Trump effectively concedes as much by singling DeSantis out for the most brutal treatment.
The name calling — “DeSanctimonious” — has been going on for months, along with claims that DeSantis is betraying Trump by running against him.
It’s silly, and Trump looked especially foolish when he said that Charlie Crist, as a Democrat, had been a better governor of Florida. "
Wait what?
A-hole EGO Billionaire fat frumpy old Trump said Crist was a better governor? oh yes.
Trump is a democrat - straight up.
Serious Question
Assuming, that the Ukrainians EVER Actually put Any F-16's into the air..
When the 1st one is shot down.. Will Any "News" reports report it?
Flip-side Inga (Hunter Biden's tax payer funded Hooker): "Trump is a democrat - straight up."
Ponder what sort of drugs you would have to be on to offer that hot take.
Good luck convincing the republican base voters who have been screwed over time and again by your GOPe heroes working with dems that Trump is the democrat.
