I just figured out that I have aphantasia. I wasn't surprised that I had aphantasia. I was surprised that other people had this ability that I never even knew existed.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you able to think without a swarm of images? I know you do (think, that is). But how, without an image and its ghostly companion, an idea?
I was at a little gathering in Vermont with some of the usual political types one might imagine would live here, and one of them had recently returned from a business trip to Hawaii, and remarked that more native Hawaiians now lived in Las Vegas than in Hawaii because they had been priced out by Japanese, Philippine, and Chinese immigrants. One of the other participants, who had earlier kept trying to spark conversation based on some item he had seen on CNN or read in the New York Times said that the problem was caused by "Christian Nationalism," I am assuming because, you know, it's bad, and everything bad is caused by "Christian nationalists."
I said that the real problem was that Hawaii had had its sovereignty stolen from it by US, and so they had no control, the way islands in the Caribbean do, for example, over immigration, so they are being dispossessed of their land as surely as if it were done by soldiers. This is what happens to lands that occupy strategic positions between great powers, their fates are decided by the great powers, and this has never changed in all of history because the strategic power dynamic that demands it is too strong.
Imagine the high dudgeon that the New York Times or Washington Post could reach were this Russia or China driving an ethnic minority (former ethnic majority before we came along) from their ancestral islands and them militarizing the islands. Maybe the hundreds of billions we are sending to Ukraine could have been used to right this wrong.
Maybe constant war is inevitable and I should just get over it. Maybe Lindsay Graham is right that spending our money to kill Russians is as good as it gets. Maybe we really have "always been at war with Eastasia," and it's only upsetting if you ever believed the fine propaganda that we were fed about our country as children. Maybe this is simply the human condition, constant warfare.

Or, how about the $17,000,000 spent on unused hotel rooms for illegal immigrants (DHS) and the $168,000,000 spent to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation (DHS)?
The agreement between President Biden and Speaker McCarthy on the debt ceiling is to suspend any and all borrowing limits for two years. Think about it - this complies with the 14th Amendment, Section 4 which reads: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, . . . shall not be questioned."
The Second Liberty Bond Act of 1917 required that a monetary ceiling be set to impose limits on bond issues to be used to finance borrowings. Liberty Bonds have been used to finance wartime endeavors in 1917-1918 for WWI ($17 billion) and again after 9/11/2001 to clean up and rebuild "Ground Zero" in NYC ($8 billion).
The whole debt ceiling issue soon became a spending giveaway to get increased limits approved. Back in the day, Liberty Bonds permitted borrowing money from Americans but today's debt is incurred internationally using other US Treasury issues through the Fed. So no law needs to be changed or limits imposed for just Liberty Bonds because we ain't using them anymore.

I really love the 1st photo- it looks like a Southwestern pattern.
So "Tara Reade" is a subject I rarely see mentioned outside of Althouse comments pages.
The best 2020 summary of "Tara Reade" that I have seen is THIS one online at Politico.
And now comes the news that our heroine Tara Reade has departed these United States to relocate to... Russia.

I made a YouTube clip of a YouTuber explaining why the label "white supremacist" is so de rigueur today.
Could this happen to the Nazi label?
About that "etiquette" post earlier...

I don't know how I think without pictures, I just do. I suspect you don't know how your brain generates those images. It just does.

This is fascinating. Chat provides a plan, well, a bunch of tactics really, AI can't really "plan" yet, to hide the fact, should it become self-aware.
