AI picks the stars for a present-day remake of "The Wizard of Oz"?

Click for TikTok video:
@themaitrix Wizard of Oz fans! Who would star in a modern remake of The Wizard of Oz? We asked artificial intelligence and here is who was selected as today's dream cast! Can you guess who will play Dorothy Gale? #wizardofoz #wizardofozremake #recast #tildaswinton #amandaseyfried #linmanuelmiranda #aiart ♬ Overture - Andrew Lloyd Webber
ADDED: Was the Munchkins section too mean? If so, I apologize for posting this. It should be noted at a present-day remake of "The Wizard of Oz" is being made in the sense that they are making a movie version of the Broadway show "Wicked." In that, the Wizard is Jeff Goldblum.

I would go with Uma Thurman, Anne Hathaway, or Margot Robbie as Glenda - depending on how old you want to make her.

Why not Timothée Chalamet as Dorothy?

Mostly it seems like a list of stars. Some make clear sense, others are just people in Wizard of Oz makeup. I have no idea who the actress playing Dorothy is so I don't know if she can sing, I just know she looks a lot like Judy Garland.

The Munchkins are tricky because they are comical characters, and comical in part simply because they are Munchkins. Would Peter Dinklage be willing to take on a role like that? He's a big enough star that he can be picky and none of the Munchkin roles are up to his stature (pun intended). They can be anybody, no need to have a named actor do any of them.

We don't need a remake. The original is magnificent, an remake would introduce pronoun-preferences, trigger warnings (having nothing to due with pistols and rifles) and an all-female cast, even for Rhett.

No thanks.

Also, Jack Black would make a great Cowardly Lion. Speaking of Jack Black, if you haven't seen it I would highly recommend watching the movie Bernie.

Not bad...

But Cordon is a no-talent hack. Wouldn't watch anything he's in for free.

And Freeman has used up all of his 'wise black man' roles. It's tired.

I accept Tilda Swinton as the witch and reject all the rest. The accuracy of the possible casting was deeply depressing.
P.S. Morgan Freeman is a strong maybe.

All of the people look air dried- or whatever you call the slicking … oh! Airbrushed!
They look like plastic Barbies lol. Mean? B/c all the Muchkins are little men? Nah.

Terry Crews as Dorothy?

I don’t the Munchkins bit was mean, but did find it funny that even AI is woke to produce such a diverse cast. The oddest pick was Fassbender. Way too of A list star

I love stuff like this. I look forward to reading about the AI rewrite of the original movie script, the AI direction of the AI/CGI film of computer avatars of the AI-chosen cast, the AI written review of the film theater premiere, the "AI director's cut" release on Netflix after the original theater release shows for a month, and finally the AI acceptance of an AI-chosen Oscar for the film, perhaps for the "technical achievement in film" category.

Doubt I'll see the show itself, unless it airs during a rainy Saturday afternoon when all other services are showing only Marvel or DC films.

Not too mean. Who is playing Toto? Correct pronoun? Don't see Freeman playing a charlatan. Sam Jackson?

Interesting, but two fails - Morgan Freeman is a miss as the wizard who ultimately a humbug and fraud, And why not give an opportunity for some unknown physically challenged people to be Munchkins

Definitely yes for Tilda Swinton and James Corden. Thought Hailee Steinfeld was wonderful in True Grit, but now she's too old for this part. Growing up is tough on child actors.

Please, God, no. The cast would probably be fine, but I can't imagine today's Hollywood could catch the spirit and chemistry of the original. Plus, who needs it?

Three movies to never be remade: Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, The Princess Bride.

I never liked or saw the appeal of The Wizard of Oz, either as a kid or later.

Lion: Adam Schiff

Scarecrow: John Fetterman

Tin Man: Eric Swallwell

Lilly, a dog: "Why not Timothée Chalamet as Dorothy?"

Why not Tracy Morgan as a Dorothy that identifies as Cleopatra?

Imagine moving thru the poppy fields in an Egyptian chariot!

I think that Dan Rather as the cowardly lion would be perfect. "Courage."

What rhhardin said.

I only recognize about half of the names mentioned so far.

I keep reading that as Al, as in Bundy.

I looked at Kevin Hart. Well played.

I read ALL the Oz books and saw the movie at least a dozen times as a kid. If they made another version of the original I would no sooner watch it than read a new version of the Bible.

I like Morgan Feeeman as an actor, and he seems to be refreshingly cleared-eyed about "wokeness." But I do agree with Joe Smith that his wise black man character is tired. Same with Denzel Washington and his tough, righteous black man character. He does it really well, but I've seen it too many times.

It'll never get made. Too many white people.

As for GWTW you'll be lucky to find a copy for sale in a few woke years.

I was just finished reading Steppenwolf, and in the last chapter Hesse declared radio "The last victorious weapon in the war against art." Mozart talks him down from the ledge, in the book, but even that fictional Mozart, who was never at a loss, might experience some pause at AI.

Steppenwolf.

There's a passage the gist of which has stuck with me--because it rang true, about being ready to violate some taboos and laws without a qualm, and at the same time disdaining to participate in some perfectly mundane activities regardless of pressure.

What a truly annoying platform.

"Three movies to never be remade: Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, The Princess Bride."

I can name a million others, most of which shouldn't have been made in the first place.

Narr said...

I confess that I've never watched The Princess Bride.

GWTW and WoO are among the top over-rated movies in my estimation. Right up there with It's A Wonderful Life and many another classic.
